Ideal Weight Calculator
Before starting on your weight loss journey with Extrapounds we recommend that you calculate the ideal weight that you should be aiming for (your goal weight). You can then calculate how much weight you need to lose and decide on the period of time you wish to do this over.
Body mass index (BMI) is a general way of measuring body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.
Please note this is only an estimate value - remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you have a strong build, your BMI may come up as high, which will not reflect your true BMI.
Limits of using BMI:
- It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build.
- It may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle mass.
- Appropriate weight gain during pregnancy varies and depends upon initial body weight or BMI level.
Pregnant women should contact a health professional to assure appropriate weight gain during pregnancy. (Information taken from The National Institute of Health)
