I started this group in order for those of us that have PCOS to be able to help encoruage and support others of us who have PCOS. Because, we all know it is SO NOT EASY to lose weight with PCOS making everything so complicated.

I keep my extrapounds blog under password, but would be happy to share the log-in info with any woman struggling with PCOS, just ask.

Happy weight loss,
amanda :)

Hi Amanda, I would love to subscribe to your EP blog. I too have PCOS and have struggled with infertility and weight. The doctors told me once that if I just got pregnant, I would overcome PCOS. Wow, who knew it was so easy! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....We tried desperately but never successfully conceived. I beat myself up for years about all this and the weight just kept piling on. Now I realize it was not my fault. I have PCOS and I need to do what I need to do to get healthy....not to have a child, but to LIVE!!! And btw, we are adopting two precious angels and I have a stepdaughter who I claim as my own. So God saw to it that my dreams of being a mommy came true. So now I need to see to it that I stick around long enough to see my grandchildren dance at their weddings.

Hi ladies! My name is Jodie and I'm 22. I found out in early 2006 that I had PCOS. I had never heard of it before and although I'm sure none of us want to have it, I was glad to finally know what was wrong with me and that I wasn't alone. For years I thought I was doing something wrong...the pimples I cound't get rid of no matter how much I washed my face, the weight I couldn't shed because I was "lazy", the (gasp) CHIN HAIR! But now I know that it wasn't my fault. It's just a condition I have, that I can learn to live with and grow from. I've been married almost 4 years, and we haven't TTC yet, but I really want to get healthy before we start. I know it will be a long road, so I want to be ready. I am really excited about this new year and I'm stoked that I found this group. I can't wait to meet you all and start getting and giving support!

Hi There
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21, I'm 28 now. I have been blessed with a gorgeous son who is now five my husbo and I have been ttc for a second time for about 4 years now. I have pretty much doubled my size in 7 years and I am now determined to get on top of my weight and with any luck have some control over the PCOS. I have joined an Australian weightloss program which is the first I have ever been on that takes PCOS into consideration and blow me down if I didn't lose 3.6kg in my first week.
I would love to chat to anyone who is interested.
Kris

Hi there -
I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS - but after reading about it, I think I need to be checked out by my doctor. I haven't had a period in four months and they were irregular before that...sleep apnea...weight gain...hair growth (not really noticable - just a few unwanted hairs)....I'm curious about the relationship between PCOS and weight...does PCOS make it harder to lose or does being overweight put you at risk for PCOS?
It's good to know that if I do have PCOS, y'all know what I'm dealing with. I'd love any advice you may have for me at this stage.

Hi Jessie,

I am not 100% on this but from what I recall, there is no known cause of PCOS. However, women with PCOS tend to have excessive insulin levels in their bodies which leads to the symptoms so many of us suffer from including excessive hair growth, weight gain, inability to lose weight, and infertility.

When I first approached my former doctor about it, I was told that my hormone levels did not indicate PCOS yet I had every symptom imaginable. I guess some people just want to think we are lazy slobs who eat too much and get too little excercise....that we caused our weight problems. That type of ignorance is unhealthy and I immediately cut those kind of people out of my life.

Hope this helps some,
Christi

Carb Crazy

Hello I am Marie. I guess I probably have a classic case of PCOS. I just turned 41. I have been able to deal with it fairly well until the last year or so. And it seems to be getting worse. I have always had problems with my periods, I had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago, but kept ovaries. And I'm wondering every day if keeping them was a smart decision. I had problems getting pregnant but finally did twice. My hair growth is increasing, dark (sometimes coarse) hair, except it is thinning on top of my head. In the past year I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. not on med yet, and I'm afraid thats coming. Obviously obese or I wouldn't be on this sight. Starting to get skin tags, have had pelvic pain for as long as I can remember, I would just assume never have sex. Increasing depression. I feel like I'm spiraling out of control.

My husband and others question why I can't lose weight. And I don't know what to tell them. They don't understand. I feel isolated and it's starting to take it's toll on my life.

Sorry to be such a downer on my introduction.

MITCHELL

It's nice to find a place to talk about the same problems. I went to my doctor in my early 20's and told him I done some research and I think I have PCOS. He laughed at me and said no I didn't. 8 years later I was DX with PCOS....by another doctor. I do have 2 children. However, i haven't had a period in a while and my weight is out of control! I was very active growing up and played softball thru high school. But after that the weight kept coming on and we didn't know why. My daughter now is 9 and at 5 she started putting on weight, we watched everything she put in her mouth and still kept gaining. I took her to a ped endocrenologist and he dx her with insulin resistance, which means she too has a high risk of having PCOS. We have all changed out eating habits, well my children have, and my husband and I joined JC this week. He needs to lose about 30 lbs, me 160 lbs! My daughter has grown into her weight the past 2 yrs so she is doing great. Syd and I both are on metformin and it helps. I got myself a personal trainer and I hope to start shedding this weight! I'm 34 now and I don't want to die or be FAT the rest of my life.

Christy in trees

I'm so glad to have found other people with PCOS. I was diagnosed almost four years ago. It has been a challenge since then trying to stay healthy and not get utterly discouraged when I'm not seeing results with lots of effort. And people don't really understand the struggle (or side effects) that come along with it. I am looking forward to going forward with my life in a healthy way and I'm glad to know there's other people who know and have some of the same struggles I do.

OMG!!! This is amazing, you women are amazing. I have really struggled to find anywhere where I have felt PCOS comfortable. People just don't get it.
I was diagnosed late in 2006 at 29 with PCOS. I am a newlywed - just having got married on 24th November 2007, so of course.... everyone is asking when the babies will be coming along. I just wanna shout - "but it's not that easy!!!!!!" My husband is understanding, and as much as he is looking forward to parenthood, he has always understood it may not happen - his answer being "then I get you all to myself forever without having to share you"
Even though I my wedding day was the happiest day of my life, I felt an absolute princess, I was at my biggest. I typically carry my weight around the stomach area, have erratic periods, quite a few stray chin etc hairs etc.
I got a real reality check when I jumped on the scales last week to see the numbers in front of me, I started a new Australian weight loss program and have just completed my first week - I've lost 4kg this week so feeling extremely proud of myself. A long long way to go, but it's a start.
I have reade all your stories and feel so comfortable joinging you all, it's something I've not discussed alot.

Looks like no one really participates in this group, but we should change that! There are a lot of us out there with PCOS and we can use all the support we can get!
