A group for new and seasoned adherents of the Paleo/Primal diet and lifestyle. If you are unfamiliar with the Paleo Diet (also known as the primal diet or paleolithic diet), it is a diet that helps you lose fat, gain better health, improve or eliminate many health conditions, and feel great. The main concept is to follow the diet of our early ancestors, the early humans who lived in the Paleolithic era, before the cultivation of agriculture. In his book, "The Paleo Diet," Dr. Loren Cordain explains that humans are genetically designed to eat the foods that they were able to hunt and gather. As a foundation, the Paleo diet/lifestyle draws from the diet eaten by our Paleolithic ancestors and brings in contemporary ideas on healthful eating - organic when possible, no processed foods, limiting refined sugars and fatty foods. The Paleo Diet focuses on lean proteins and non-starchy vegetables and fruits. There are numerous health benefits to adhering to the Paleo diet. These include weight maintenance, weight loss if desired, reduce risk of metabolic syndromes (high blood pressure, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes), cancer, autoimmune disease, and virtually every other chronic illness that affects modern societies. It looks like this will be a group of NEW for now: I am a NEW member on Extrapounds, I am NEW to the Paleo diet, and seeing that there weren't any Paleo support groups, I created this NEW group.
