Home Gym Bunnies

Are you a home exercise diva? Do you own so many workout DVDs it's slightly embarrassing? When you hit the mall do you cruise the sporting goods shops for new workout clothes? Do you rush home from work or get up at 4.30 AM to get your fix of Cathe, the Firm or P90X? (If you aren't quite there yet but would like to be, come on in and let's talk!) Welcome!

I started home exercise with the Firm and just did Aerobic Body Shaping this morning. I'm fresh from the shower and feel like I've had my butt whooped up one side and down the other (so to speak). Aerobic Body Shaping is a cardio+sculpt workout led by Allie Del Rio Pointer, a longtime Firm master instructor and one of my favourites.

What's your favourite Firm workout? Or do you own any?

I just ordered The Firm last week and am waiting for it to arrive. I heard about it on the Weight Watchers forum. I am no longer on Weight Watchers per se, but I do want to work out at home. I heard it was good.

So did you just get the videos also? I can't wait to try them!

Let me know how they are. I want to order them as well. Did you order the one with the weights?

I ordered mine over a month ago, and still havn't received it, but when I called they said it should get there soon. I hope I have enough room in my house to do it accurately. I ordered the beginners kit with the weights and everything. I tell you how it goes when I get it.

Blue Rose

I started using the Firm a few months ago. I just love it. I realized that my stomach does not jiggle anymore. Not bad for over 50.

I'm a returning user of The Firm-I had bought three of their sets a few years back and was  using them religiously until I decided to start going to the gym instead. I've been using The Firm for about two months now, 5 days a week--and I love it, don't know why I ever decided to use the gym instead! They really work, and are a good challenge! :)

I DO have advise to give the new Firmies however, AMAZON.com. Don't buy straight from The Firm website-its SO much more expensive and shipping does take an ETERNITY. E-Bay is also really good to buy Firm workouts and equipment, as well as collagevideo.com - and collagevideo.com has little "sneak previews" of each of the DVDs so you know what you're getting yourself into before you buy it (plus, there are customer reviews on there as well).

Hope this helps...

I've been using the Firm since the late 80s, and have to say that I like the older workouts (the ones that use the mansion setting) best. My favorite Firm instructor of all time is Tracy Long, who now has her own workouts..I keep meaning to try them, I believe they're called TLT for Tracy Long training.

I strongly recommend Maximum Body Shaping, and Boot Camp 3 in 1. Both are for beginners, but if you up the weights they can be for intermediate and advanced as well. If you can find the Firm Basics videos lying around (they are out of print, and you'll probably only find VHS versions), those are excellent for beginners.

My favorite Firm videos: Tortoise/Hare, Maximum Body Shaping, Vol. 2 (Low Impact Aerobics), and Vol. 6 (Complete Aerobic Weight Training).

Oh, almost forgot...if you do decide to try the older workouts (especially Body Sculpting Basics with Susan Harris), make sure you know the proper form of the exercises. A lot of the workouts that were popular when the earlier videos were made aren't considered safe now, and Susan Harris doesn't demonstrate proper form...particularly when doing lunges.

In other words, you might want to become a bit more advanced before trying them.

I have 2 Firm Videos. The Firm Bootcamp maximum calorie burn with alison davis and The Firm Burn and Shape with Emily Welsh. I like both of them but I think my fav is the one with Alison Davis. It's a good workout. However, for those of you home gym bunnies I would recommend P90X. I've started it and OMG it's probably the hardest most rewarding workout I've ever done. It's like having your own personal trainer! haha So ya I really like P90X but the Firm videos are good too. So is Billy Blank's Tae Bo. I've tried some of the crunch ones and haven't been all that impressed for the most part. There's a couple that I like though.
