I just joined extrapounds and found you fine people here and I'm so excited to get started! This is actually my second weight loss adventure... (the first one didn't take, evidently!...) and I think it's so much better to have support!

I've been a vegetarian for about 15 years now, and became a "boxed vegetarian"... I ate just about anything and everything that came from a box, and not much else! I really think clean eating's the way to go... your body doesn't have much to work with when what you give it is so processed and preserved it can't actually use much of it!

I'm addicted to so many things... caffine, sugar, salt, lactose... it's going to be hard to clean it up, but I think I'm ready to start!

Hello and lovely to meet you.
Lol @ 'boxed vegetarian' - I was a vegetarian for many years, though I am not now, and I have done that!
You can do this...I gave up caffeine, added sugar, and alcohol completely, and salt almost totally, seven months ago, in favour of a diet I would say manages to be totally 'clean' about 95 per cent of the time now! I am doing great and love my food more than ever before.
My top tip would be to take it slow...maybe cut out the caffeine and sugar cold turkey, if you are really addicted and can't cut down, but make other changes slowly and they will stick.
All the best,
Rach xxx

It's so nice to meet you!

I'm very excited to make the changes... caffine is going to be interesting... I always get so sick when I try to give it up!... my body hates detoxing (hehe)

hmmm... do you think there's a difference (as far as clean wise) between soda caffine and coffee caffine? I've always noticed that it affects me different - I've thought of cutting soda out cold turkey but then slowly coming off of coffee (which I don't currently drink regularly but it would be easy to make the switch between soda & coffee at work :) )... but then again, I don't want to exchange one bad habit for another!

Hey there inswsn. Nice to meet you and glad you joined our group here. We're glad to have you.
According to the Clean Eating book, Tosca says to drink your coffee black with NO sugar, obviously. I can't remember if there was a quantity limit. I don't drink coffee, so I didn't pay too much attention there. I still drink my Diet Cokes, but I drink more water than anything. Some things, I'm just not willing to give up. So I still have 2 Diet Cokes a day. Much less than previously!

it makes sense no sugar :) i like agave in coffee too.. it's natural and it's sweet and it's vegetarian, which is important... processed sugar isn't vegetarian friendly. I think being a veg head is going to help me adopt a clean living attitude. :)

btw i love your icon, tatumsmom!

I haven't tried agave yet. Might have to look into it. Loving your veggies definitely gives you a leg up on Clean Eating! I don't guess I'm as strict as I should be with it. But I'm still a work in progress. :-)
BTY... I got that icon on Photobucket.com.

I'm not sure...coffee has more caffeine than soda I think, but I never drank it, it was diet soda (4 litres a day!) I had to deal with. I threw up several times while giving up and got migraines! But it was all good in the end!

Wow, Rach. That's crazy. I have heard of the headaches, but not throwing up. I'm glad it all turned out good.

Deserve Better

I'm a coffee-a-holic and cold turkey definitely gives me headaches. That's a common symptom of caffeine withdrawal.

Caffeine is caffeine. What's clean or not is the food (or beverage) it's in. There's caffeine in soda and coffee but then again there's also caffeine in tea and chocolate. I'm going to sound a bit hypocritical here, but soda isn't clean. And yes, I'm still drinking soda since I'm still working towards stricter clean eating. If you're seeking a cleaner version of caffeine, how about tea? After all, you can drink tea hot OR iced. :o)
