My personal trainer is trying to convince me to go on an extreme diet - no dairy, no starch. I'm not sure I have the willpower to do it. Anyone else have success with extreme diet techniques?

Extreme dieting is hard because then you really crave and miss out on things you love and crave. Everything is about moderation and portion control. Dairy is important in your diet for your health! Good luck, your trainer probably knows what works - but it only works if you can stick to it...and I know I couldn't.

I'm doing weight watchers because you can eat what you like in moderation, I don't feel deprived.

I can't believe your PT is having you do that. I'm a group fitness instructor and when my "clients" are trying to lose weight I recommend different things depending on how much weight to lose etc. But cutting out food groups is a TERRIBLE way to do that. Personally I'm a WW person. It's sensible way to lose weight and you still get to eat what you love.

I would get a new personal trainer or if you like them for your workout meet with a dietician/sports nutritionist. Someone that knows nutrition.

sways

I'm a Jenny Craig weight loss consultant and I think that's just crazy. Your body needs carbs as it's your main source of fuel for your body to say the LEAST...that's insane.

I am doing NutriSystem. No offense to the sways, but Jenny Craig was just too much money. I am going to go on this for 2 months to try to get a kick start and lose 10 pounds. Hopefully I can do the rest by diet and exercise this summer!

I'm really not utilizing a diet. I'm tracking calories, aiming to keep it at about 1500 to 1700 or so.

It's a horrible idea! I suggest you find another PT because this one is obviously not concerned about your overall health. The only healthy way to lose weight is with a balanced diet. NOTHING should be completely cut out, except for sugary, greasy, fatty foods. Everyday you need fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole-grain carbs, and low fat dairy! The only things you should consider cutting out completely are foods with "empty" calories, and processed carbs(white bread, white sugar, white pasta). You should aim for 1500 cals a day, depending on your weight....try www.caloriefinder.com to help you determine your daily cal intake, or speak to your doctor or a LICENSED nutritionist. As for this "personal trainer", I would ask him for some credentials....ASAP! You need to make sure this person is interested in helping you lose weight in a safe and healthy way, because extreme diets will destroy your metabolism and your health!
