I've been on and off this site since 2006, so I'm not really new....but since I haven't been here in over a year it's like starting all over!  :-)

I'm a mommy of two sweet boys.  One is 8 and has severe autism, the other is 3 and has developmental delays.  I love my boys more than anything in the world, but I find myself only focusing on them and not myself.  I also let the stress of every day life get to me way too much, and I seem to only find comfort in food.  I've dieted down to as low as 180 and then something happens where I let myself go again.

I'm back to about 215 and am starting all over.  I got a prescription of phentermine from my doctor to help jump start my weight loss, but he'll only allow me to take this for 3 months so I know in the mean time I need to work on changing my habits.

Just wanted to introduce myself, and I would love for all of us to help each other on this journey!

I am in a very similar weight situation and 3 kids myself that take all my time and attention, so there is very little time and energy spent taking care of myself. I'm very curious about the phentermine and your exerience with it! what is it exactly? Good luck!

Hi!  :-)

Phentermine is WONDERFUL.  I took it once in the past and it really helps you get your eating habits under control, because it curbs your appetite and increases your energy a great deal.  BUT it is a very short term solution, because (like all "fad diets"), you'll eventually have to go off of it.

So this go round, I plan on using the phentermine to my advantage and starting a healthier lifestyle that I can continue once the phentermine is gone.

I do highly recommend it for anybody that needs a jump start to their weightloss.

My family doctor prescribed it to me.

I'm thinking this is how to regularly talk to people in a group without searching comments on individual blogs.  I'm loving talking with you, Texasmommy, but I do hope more people join this group.  There must be more people out there struggling with stress, autism and weight gain.  Maybe they just don't get around to doing something like this.
 
I'm officially starting this today.  My first goal is to reach 210 by my 49th birthday, May 16th.  I don't even want to think about my ultimate goal of 150 lbs.  I can't even get my mind around losing 90 lbs.  I can't even get my mind around being 90 lbs overweight!!!
 
I'm already very aware of the right way to eat, exercise, etc.  My big, BIG problem is depression and anxiety.  The worst way for me to approach this "diet" is to force myself into a strict program that's too easy to fail.  That has exactly the opposite effect, and leads me to more stress eating and depression.  It's a big spiral down, down, down.   My life is very complicated with huge stresses I'll get into later.  Suffice it to say there's no way for me to get healthy until I get a better handle on how I deal with stress.  I want to make that spiral go up, up, UP!
 
I'm really afraid of failing. So here's my plan:  Just start changing my habits one day at a time, one pound at a time.  I hate to take it slowly, but going aggressive about losing just doesn't work for me. This week my goal is to meditate twice for 10 minutes, take a shower (sad I have to list this as a goal! :)  ), and to blog every day.  I will not fail in meeting these goal, and this week's success will probably result in healthy eating anyway.  Off I go to meditate and take my shower.....  Yee ha!

I also have a child that is developmentally delayed and on the spectrum.  He's adorable and 6 but wow, what a lot of work sometimes!  And I NEVER feel like I'm doing all that I should be.  I'm heavy naturally, but was thin for many years.  I made myself a promise 10 years ago that I would be thin on our 10th anniversary which is this July, so that we could celebrate somewhere exotic and I could feel good about prancing around in a bathing suit (or not!).  So.... that's my motivation and I've got a good plan in place, good support, but would love to have more!  I have a group that is joining ScalebackAlabama.com , a weight loss competition that starts next week, so hopefully that will be more.  I think most of it is refocusing myself ,and the family, on non-food rewards and activities.  I bought an Xbox Kinect and it is the BEST decision I've made in years, even tho it cost a small fortune.  Its got my autistic son involved in playing games with the family for the first time ever, and all of us benefit by fun family time that is not us sitting around eating.  I get quite a workout just doing the games!  More later, but I hope to hear from you all.  Good luck everyone.
