This is my millionth time attempting weightloss...but I'm making a few changes this time. One of which is this website and the blogs, support groups, etc that come with it. I have also involved my doctor this time...I was afraid of being told all I needed to so was "eat right and exercise" - which really makes me angry - but he almost acted as if he had been waiting for me to ask and offered full support including medication, referral to a nutritionist, etc...I've also recruited the support of friends, family, and even my students for this time around. Asking for help was very difficult for me as I'm very independent and if I can't do it myself, if just doesn't get done. However, hitting my current weight caused me to need to lose more than 100 pounds and was a real eye-opener for me. I've always had low blood pressure and for the first time in my life I'm borderline hypertensive. My whole family is a mangle of heart disease, diabetes and strokes and I just refuse to go there. Well - here I go. I'm glad to find this support group...I have to admit that I'm intimidated by the need to lose so much weight but I am determined to make it happen this time...

Welcome to this support group. It sounds like you have lots of motivation and involving the people around you is a good idea as they can support and help you. I am also lucky enough to have a strong network of support.

I started 8 weeks ago and have so far lost 29.5lbs including a stay the same for Christmas week. I am so motivated and feel I am in the right frame of mind to finally conquer this lifelong weight problem. I have masses to lose as well but just take each pound at a time and you will achieve your goals :)

WOW! Almost 30 lbs in only 8 weeks! I should be so lucky! It has also been a lifelong struggle for me too and I have to admit that I think the majority of my problem is frame of mind. My entire family is obese and it is their firm belief that we have the "fat gene" and there's nothing we can do to lose weight...this has been preached to me my entire life. Even though I don't believe this myself, it's hard to get rid of that little voice in the back of your mind that keeps telling you you're waisting your time. This time just feels different to me though...congrats on your success! WOW!!!

You have certainly started out on the right track! Getting help is really hard to do - you should commend yourself for admitting that you needed it. You have a great attitude - you will succeed!
