BDS - Day 3

I'm the queen of being a morning hypochondriac.  The alarm woke me up at 7am, time to go to the gym!  Nope.  One more snooze, and another, soon, I was telling myself I'm SO tired and achy, but I allowed myself to stay up until midnight playing EQ2.  (/gasp!)  I am addicted again.  :(  So, next time, "sick" or not, I MUST get out of bed and go to the gym.

I CRAVE the social atmosphere of EQ2.  The illusion that you are surrounded by people, and some of them actually give a damn about you even though they've never met you IRL (in real life).  It's nuts.  If I could hear a sound like all the many, marvelous sounds in EQ2 every time I step on the scale and hear "broooohh ing!" you've just lost 1.5 pounds, then have my guildies immediately offer MORE reinforcing feedback of, grats!  I think it would be every bit as reinforcing as that stupid game whenever you do something they think is good.

Grrrr.... anywho, on to BDS day 3!

Eat Sitting Down

It's important to eat sitting down and not standing up so that you can see your food laid out in front of you and become more visually satisfied. Unplanned eating is also much more likely to occur if you are standing up.

What will you do to remind yourself to eat sitting down?

Ok, so, this currently isn't a problem for me, as I don't cook, and haven't cooked in well over 5 years or ever really.  (I keep thinking I need to take cooking classes.)  However, just as I thought it wasn't going to be a problem, last night, after I removed my JC pizza from the oven, and was waiting on my asparagus to get done, I took a bite of pizza and immediately seized up and thought, I'm not sitting down!  I almost ran to a chair and sat down before chewing the bite I had in my mouth, but I didn't.  It was my dinner I was eating standing up, not mindless munching; however, note to self, SIT when eating, and NOT in front of EQ2, ever.  :)

Need to read my cards today, read them twice yesterday.  Happy Thursday, ladies!  :)

BDS - Day 2

Recap of Day 1, I made my cards, and I read them this morning.  I have not set reminders.  Still trying to figure that one out.  First thing in the morning, and..... I guess at 4pm ish when the mid day drag sets in.   So, ok, now for reminders, I have my bodybugg set to go off every hour and a half to remind me to get up from my desk, so I suppose I could use that to remind me to read my cards.  Ok, day 1 is complete!  :)

On to day two:

Pick Two Reasonable Diets

You can pick any reasonable, healthy diet plan. Then also pick a second reasonable diet as your backup plan, in case your first diet doesn't work out for you. The Beck Diet Solution is an approach, not a diet, so you will need to do some research in this area.

Now, the first diet is JC and is working, so, do I really need a second diet?  Although, there is a gym contest I could enter and they teach you a nutritious diet, so I'm thinking that will be my second diet.  I forget what it's called though, so, day two, sorta complete?  What say you?  :)

BDS - Day 1

I took Franma's advice, and bought the Beck Diet Solution.  Today is Day 1.

Now, I'm continuing to do JC but I know I am going to need something to CHANGE THE WAY I THINK ABOUT FOOD, (completely, totally, and wholly) and take me through the rest of my life, and BDS seems to be able to do this.  So, taken from here (and the book) http://www.peertrainer.com/diet/beck_diet_solution.htm

here is Day 1
:

Create Your Advantages Response Card

A "Response Card" is an index card or similar sheet that is convenient for you to carry with you or otherwise keep handy. Today's assignment is to write down all the reasons you want to lose weight, and rate how important those reasons are to you (very important / important / somewhat important). Then you must read this card at least twice daily, plus whenever you feeling like giving into cravings, temptations, or sabotaging thoughts.

You need to select two times each day when you will read the card, and set up a system to remind yourself to read the card.

Reasons I want to lose weight (in order of importance):

1.
I want to be in the best shape of my life by the time I'm 40.  (i'm currently 38)

2.   I want to be able to tie my own shoes (and all other self care issues, myself) when I'm 75.

3.  I want to live to be at least 75.

4.  I want to be FIT for (the rest of my) LIFE.  (double meaning intended)

5.  I want to FEEL good, and know I LOOK even better.

6.  I want to have sex again! (ffs, i haven't had sex in... well, never mind!)

7.  I don't want to have any more back pain/troubles/blown discs.

8.  I want to be able to WALK for more then 10 minutes without the "tin man" gate I had developed over the last year. (mind you, i'm THIRTY eight!)

9.  As suggested, shopping will be more fun?!?!  I hate to shop.  :(  Ok, wait, I got it!  :)  Fitting into "normal" clothes will be more fun!  (and look better too)

10.  Feel free to suggest ideas!  :P  Perhaps I'll update some more by the end of the day.

Dad Status

My dad is out of the hospital and at home doing just fine.  He's still struggling to breathe, but the doctors have had him turn up his oxygen which seems to help when he's trying to move around.

Thank you to all for your kind words and support.  The roller coaster continues.  It's a  new year, time to look forward.

Heavy Stuff - feel free to skip

I'm driving to see my dad tomorrow.  My dad has been sick with emphysema for a long time. He's been in the hospital since Sunday.  He's getting to the point where he's literally suffocating to death, and has been getting this bad for the past THREE months. Sunday he had his first panic attack which landed him in the hospital.

I don't know if any of you are familiar with what a panic attack feels like, but it's scary at best, terrifying at worst, and the worst thing about the whole thing is you feel like you can't breathe and/or you're having a heart attack or stroke.  I don't wish this feeling on my worst enemy, and now it's happening to my dad who can't breathe to begin with.

I honestly have no idea what to say to him to make him feel better.  I want desperately to make him feel better.  They can't give him any kind of anti-anxiety medicine because it can screw with his already depressed cardiovascular system.  What can I say to help him through panic attacks when mine were always mental, and his are apparently physical, but my god, that has to be a HUGE weight on his MIND as well.

Apparently, he told my sister that his brother (who's been gone for years) keeps telling him he should go up and play golf with him.  Now, I don't think this is hallucinating (nor do I care if it makes him feel better), but I think it's his way of telling us he's ready to go, but my sister asked him if he wanted to go play golf, and he said, no, he had stuff to do here first.

My dad is 62.  SIXTY two.  He's YOUNG in the grand scheme of things.

I'm so afraid I'm going to bawl in front of him, and I really don't want to, I simply want to make him feel better.  Facing death has got to be terrifying.  How do I do make him feel better?

I realize what I'm asking is impossible for anyone to answer as most of us have no idea how to deal with death or the dieing.  So...yea.

New Year's is usually one of my favorites time's of the year, new beginnings, I LOVE them.  This year, I will be in the hospital with my dad.  Spending as much time as I possibly can with him before I have to go.  Wish me luck.  and Happy New Year to you all, may next year be better then this year.

Merry Christmas

I'm bah humbug, so, I'll leave it at that.  :)

Hope everyone is healthy, happy, and had a FANTASTIC xmas.

/wave 190's

Was terrible knowing you, hope to never have the displeasure again.  /wave

So, Christmas dinners are NOT going to get me!  Of course, I will only have one, and it was last night.  Unless I decide to go home for Christmas, alone, no cat sitter so C would stay home with the babies.  :(

But anyway, back to last night's dinner.  OMG! Can you say HEAVENLY??!?!  Seriously.  My boss is used to the finer things in life, so, we went to a new place in Hershey that serves fish and steak.  Devon

I looked on the internet for which fish is lowest in calories, and couldn't decide between grilled or seared for the least amount of calories, but after the waitress described the food, I chose the Seared Bass.  She said it melts in your mouth, and OMG does it ever!

I ordered the risotto and green beans to go with it.   (i've been watching SO many cooking shows and have never had risotto).  I know risotto has ALOT of calories, so I only had about 1/4 of it which probably ended up being a little more then 1/4 cup.

I ate half the fish and half the green beans, because I kept worrying about butter.  When I got back and added everything to the Bodybugg, it was about 300 calories, which is probably way light, but oh well, I tried!  I left half the food on my plate which I almost regret now because it was seriously FANTASTIC food.  I ate SO slowly and TASTED every bite.

The fish was very delicate, perfectly cooked, moist, lemony, I could detect a hint of olive oil.  The risotto was lemony and DELICIOUS.  The rice was perfectly cooked, not mushy, not crunchy, there was a light cream sauce of some sort, but the predominate flavor was lemon, I LOVE lemon.  The green beans were CRISP and seriously perfect.  Now, if I could make food like this every night I would.  WOW.  I was blown away, if you couldn't tell.  If you are ever in Hershey, PA Devon is WELL worth the money.

They had these little biscuits they brought around fresh from the oven which everyone said was delicious.  GO ME!  Bread has always been one of my weaknesses.  I could literally eat a loaf of bread and think nothing of it, so I didn't eat them at all.  :)

Onward and downward!  Happy Friday, ladies!

TGiving Results and Body Fat Info

Down 1.3 pounds.  I will certainly take it after the drinks!  :)

So, I've been contemplating body fat, and how to measure it more accurately.  Since none of us (I don't think) can afford high tech methods of body fat measurements, and I think the calipers are painful, not to mention there are inconsistent factors with them as well in the form of different people doing the measuring, gathering different amounts of skin, yada yada yada.  I thought I'd try the way we did it in the Navy.

Many of us have scales and other methods we use to calculate body fat, I figured if we had our primary and this secondary method, we might get a better idea of where we stand concerning body fat.  And if nothing else, we can all choose the lower number!  :)

But here is the Navy method of measuring bodyfat in a nutshell, you can read more by googling "navy body fat." There are also various calculators on the web, some don't do weight, just height, so be discerning on which you choose to use.  I downloaded a spreadsheet (NOT going to vouch for the safety or security of said spreadsheet).

Tip!  Measure your hips with your feet TOGETHER!  I used to do the measurements for all the women on the ship, you will get a better number with your feet together.

The locations for women: Places where to measure female circumferrences for the bodyfat calculation after the US-Navy formula
  • Abdomen: Horizontal, at the level of minimal abdominal width.
  • Hip: Largest horizontal circumference around the hips.
  • Neck: Inferior to the larynx with the tape sloping slightly downward to the front.
  • Height: Is measured without shoes.
edit:  taking out the formula, google for a calculator, or see below

The locations for men: Places where to measure male circumferrences for the bodyfat calculation after the US-Navy formula
  • Abdomen: Horizontal at the level of the navel. This is not the minimal width.
  • Neck: Inferior to the larynx with the tape sloping slightly downward to the front.
  • Height: Is measured without shoes.

Day 3 - success!

even though today is really day 3, and when i make it through today, it's home free!

Working from home alone, sux, btw, in case anyone was wondering.  I don't know what it is, but I dislike being alone tremendously.  Used to love it, but then I was absorbed in a video game where I was "surrounded" by people.

Oh well, happy Thursday!

Day 2 - success!

I'm back on the non-smoking wagon for good!  First three days are the hardest, then it's cake.  (non fat, chocolate)  :)

Go me!
