Day 3 of Training & my first 'mini-goal'

OK, so that's not very far into my marathon training, but I've followed my training schedule everyday since I signed up on Saturday.  2 miles Saturday, 23 minutes of light running Sunday, and 2.3 miles today!  I know I still have A LOT of work to get to my goal of the marathon, but so far I've been staying on track. (And yes, I'm sore even from those measly numbers!).

Now, how long to they say it takes to form a new habit?  Because I will admit that getting myself motivated to get out there is still a challenge.  But so far I've been doing it!

Now tomorrow I'm suppose to pick something other than running/walking/jogging and do some cross-training...mmm!

On the weight-loss front, the training advice is not to try and lose a lot of weight during training.  Although they said 10 pounds is fine.  Since I'm bfding I know the weight loss has to be gradual too and coupled with the drastic increase in my activity level, I know I have to be VERY careful not to have my milk supply take a dive.  So I'm going to try and keep my weightloss rate pretty slow.  .5-2 pounds per week.  Hopefully I'll at least be able to keep up some loss.

I was excited that I finally met my first goal in the biggest loser contest, with a five pound loss (since July 1) at this morning's weigh-in.  Now just 18 more pounds to go!

Its too hot! And other excuses!

I seriously lack motivation to exercise and come up with a bazillion excuses.  Recently its been heat; before that it was air quality; or I'm too tired; or I just had a baby, so I shouldn't push it.  Whatever the reason, I can come up with good ways to convince myself that I can't exercise that day.  So this week we had a challenge in our Biggest Loser contest to set an exercise goal for the week and accomplish it.  I said 30 minutes 3 times for the week.  No biggie right?  I mean I used to run 5x a week before I had Gabriel.  Right!?  Um yeah, I did crunches one night for a few minutes, leg lifts another night, but come-on I barely broke a sweat.  It's ridiculous.  So my little sister (whose super athletic, looks great, and has tons of energy) invited me to go to a Team In Training kick-off with her this morning. (Not to mention the informational meetings I swore I'd attend and skipped out on).  For some reason I agreed and said I'd be 45 miles away from my house at 7:30 this morning.  She figured I'd flake (and with good reason).  Anyways, I hauled my butt out of bed at 6:15 this morning and left the house by 6:45.  Voluntarily...still not sure how that happened.  And the kicker...the kick-off started with a two mile run.  Nothing for a veteran runner, but for me, YIKES!  But with my sister keeping a snail's pace not to dust me, I did it.  (Yes, I'm sore).  And, here's the crazy thing.  I signed up for a Marathon!  Woowzie!  I really wanted to do one before I turned 30, but babies kept happening.  So now 2 months after having Joey, I'm going to start training with Team In Training.  I'll turn 30 a month before the marathon, but its close.  My sister is very excited and even paid my registration fee.  So now I can't flake out... But I do have to figure out how to meet my fundraising goal & it sounds like I'll have a lot of early mornings for the next few months!

slacking

Between the sandwich potluck I organized at work and a kids' birthday party today, I have been slacking BIG time the past couple of days.  :( But tomorrow is a new day and I will do better.  I definitely want to see a loss on Monday.

Bible camp

The beginning of my week last week went really well.  I was a little hungry the first couple of days, but I journaled well and was feeling good by the end of Wednesday. However Thursday I headed up to bible camp with Jack and Joey.  I knew there would be LOTS of food there (the best part being the I didn't have to cook any of it), but we also do a lot of running around with the kids.  However I realized while I was there that there was no way my activity level was keeping up with all the food I ate at meals.  I did well with not snacking between meals and with drinking a TON of water, but I'm definitely paying for the eating.  I feel a bit like I'm starting over this week.  My appetite definitely went back up while I was gone and now I'm having to fight the urge to snack all over again.  But I forced myself to journal my meals today (even though I had a huge lunch at a sushi restaurant today) and I know I have to stick to the journaling this week if I want to see a weight loss by the end of it.

When I told my sister that I had almost 20 pounds to lose, she said "Wow! That's a lot!".  She said it didn't seem like I had that much weight to lose, but if I want to fit into anything I wore before this last pregnancy, I need to get down at least 4 sizes.  Right now I only have about 5 outfits total that I can wear.  Its so disheartening when I try to get ready for work; even worse when I want to wear "something cute" for hanging out & playing with my kids.  But at least its motivation for me to stick with the plan!

Food diary

I've been procrastinating on keeping a food diary, but I know that I really need to in order to keep myself accountable.  So what do I read this morning?  An article saying that those who diary what they eat lose twice as much as those who don't.  So today I will start.  I really hope I can keep up with it because I know it works.

On a good note, we got our CSA (community supported agriculture) box today full of yummy vegetables and fruits.  Right now we just get a delivery once every other week because we were watching too many things rot when we got the box every week.  Its like Christmas to see what wonderful local organic things we're going to get when the box comes.  I'm working on making sure we use everything each time we get a delivery!

Check in

Today is my official weigh-in day for the F&F Biggest Loser contest.  This morning I'm at 144, which is a 4 pound loss. However I know that I'm going to have to work harder this week to see a loss.  I think this past week I mainly lost water weight.  I'm going to try this week to keep it up on my own, but I'm still thinking about joining Weight Watchers if I don't continue to lose with what I'm doing.  I did manage to get some walking in the past week, but I really want to get back into running, so I need to be more focused in that area.
