Today was very pleasant. Even though the alarm was not set, we woke up in time to make it to Casey's before the big crowd arrived. Nice, pleasant breakfast with DH - he read the paper, I read the next chapter for tax class.
Did a little shopping at Target and Sam's. Went home and worked on art stuff for a while, then went to Barnes & Noble where I enjoyed a venti Pumpkin Spice latte and a Pumpkin Spice mini bundt cake with a shot of espresso poured in the middle of the cake. I know it sounds weird, however it is FABULOUS!
Breakfast - MOMO at Casey's - Egg beater omelet with spinach and mushrooms, banana, dry english muffin, 2 Tbsp Smucker's orange marmalade, iced tea, 3/4 piece of bacon (DH shared)
AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar
Lunch - Turkey Panini (a temporary JC item - I won't have it again because it was too small and didn't really taste like anything)
PM Snack - MOMO at B&N - venti skinny pumpkin spice latte (milk from b-fast), mini pumpkins spice bundt cake, shot of espresso
Dinner - Meatloaf with BBQ Sauce
Late PM Snack combined - Popcorn - 2 servings sprayed with butter-flavored Pam and sprinkled with Mrs. Dash
Took all vitamins and drank 64 oz water. Colored my hair and walked on the treadmill for 25 minutes while the color was setting. Steps at the time of this writing: 6929 (24 aerobic minutes; 2.84 miles)
Today is the 250th birthday celebration for the city of Pittsburgh! WOW, I can't imagine what it was like, here, in 1758. I'm glad we got to see the remains of Fort Pitt, in downtown, before the historical society buried it, this year, for its own protection.
Tonight, there is going to be the biggest fireworks display the area has ever seen. You may even see part of it on the national news because there will be 17 launch sites, a waterfall off the West End Bridge, followed by a "secret" finale. If you've ever seen Zambelli fireworks before, you know they will be spectacular.
Today was tax school. We had a quiz and I missed one question because I didn't read it thoroughly.
I do that all the time. Next Saturday is the mid-term exam so I better slow down and read! The graphics mid-term exam starts Wednesday so I'll probably take it Thursday to leave enough time to study for tax class. Already turned in the logo for graphics. For the drawing mid-term, I only have one drawing left to do. Haven't really decided what it's going to be however I'm leaning toward a drawing of a statue of an Egyptian cat. DH has been drawing all day and doing a mighty fine job - a grapefruit on a table that actually looks 3-D and a terracotta warrior (he likes Asian art). The rest of the weekend will probably be artsy fartsy for both of us.
Breakfast - Sunshine Sandwich, 1 slice fat free chesse, 1/2 c OJ with Perrier, 1 c skim milk
AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar
Lunch - MOMO at Flamers in the mall - double cheeseburger, fries, Diet Coke, Cinnamon Sugar pretzel from Auntie Annies
PM Snack - 1/2 c OJ
Dinner - MOMO from Wendy's - Mandarin Chicken salad, Newman's Own Lowfat Sesame Ginger dressing, Diet Coke
Late PM Snack - Chocolate Chip Snack Bar
Took all vitamins and drank 64 oz water. Walked around the mall a little at lunch. Started the 5 mile run training today (was too lazy on Tuesday or Thursday to do it). 45 minutes running equaled 2.63 miles (treadmill). Steps at the time of this writing: 11913 (57 aerobic minutes; 4.88 miles)
Looking forward to breakfast with DH at Casey's tomorrow, finishing the laundry, and maybe taking a nap! We'll see.
Even though the weekend will be busy, I can't wait for it to start tomorrow around 4:15. We're not going anywhere special or doing anything special, it will just be nice to be home, together.
We have a couple of midterms next week so plan to enjoy a nice, laid back weekend.
The gauntlet has been thrown. My friend, LS, who went to dinner with me last week has challenged me to run with her in the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. Here's the next level part - it's a 5 mile run. My only "official" run was a 5k. So, I'm extending my c25k runs, beginning today, to work my way up to 5 miles in 9 weeks. If I survive the training, I'll post pictures of the race.
Also, since I'll be running more, I need to refocus my efforts on the JC plan. No more screwing around with eating the wrong things when we go out and drinking too much.
Breakfast - Silver Dollar Pancakes & Veggie Sausage, JC lite table syrup, 1/2 c OJ with Perrier, 1 c skim milk
AM Snack - forgot to eat it - work has been a bear this week
Lunch - Chicken Sandwich with onions, lettuce, and mustard, Subway Veggie Delight Salad, 2 JC balsamic vinaigrette dressings, Diet Coke with Lime
PM Snack - haven't had it yet
Dinner - 4 pieces pepperoni pizza (leftovers from a lunch at work)
Late PM Snack - Toffee Bites - at school
Took all vitamins and drank 64 oz water. Walked to/from downtown at lunch. Will run c25k after school tonight (although, don't hold your breath on that one). Steps at the time of this writing: 8745 (50 aerobic minutes; 3.58 miles).
Had technical difficulties and couldn't post for days. Sorry for the delay in getting back into the swing of things. Yesterday, the battery in my pedometer died so NO STEPS to count.
It's that time. I need to work on my drawing project tonight. Nothing is due this week, however I have to start on the remaining items that are due for the midterm. So, tonight I'm starting the Jim Dine-style drawing. Here's an example of his work.
Jim Dine does some really nice hearts, too. He has a bunch of different drawings of the same bathrobe, if you like that sort of thing.
DH loaned me an old a pair of tin snips to use for my drawing. DH's drawing shows a 40-oz bluepoint (a.k.a ball-peen hammer) and it's good! If the tin snips turn out OK, I'll take a picture and post here in a week or so. Also, while I was waiting for reports to run today, I started on my logo assignment for the graphics class. That is going to be hard so I'm happy to get an early start.
Breakfast - Silver Dollar Pancakes & Veggie Sausage, JC lite table syrup, 1/2 c OJ, 1 c skim milk
AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar
Lunch - Cashew Chicken (dinner instead of lunch - picked up the wrong frozen meal), Subway Veggie Delight salad, 2 JC balsamic vinaigrette dressing, 2 Diet Cokes
PM Snack - 1 c mixed berries (frozen from Sam's - blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries - doesn't appear to have a bunch of extra sugar added)
Late PM Snack - Cinnamon Twists (only have 5 packs left)
Took all vitamins and drank 72 oz water. Walked to/from work. Walked to/from Subway (downtown) at lunch. Curved out. Walked home. Still doing laundry from the weekend. Steps at the time of this writing: 18867 (144 aerobic minutes; 7.74 miles)
WI is tomorrow. I know I will be up 1-2 pounds since the last WI (9/2). Let's hope it's only 1.
This has been a wonderful weekend, weatherwise. Since Ike came to town last Saturday, we've had nice days most of the week and all this weekend. I guess that's Mother Nature's way of making up for the mess last weekend. Everybody is out in their yards this weekend - cleaning up from Ike, getting another cut in before winter, cleaning up their flower beds, putting up their lawn furniture. We'll be doing some of the above later this afternoon - I need to mow the DMZ, the side and back yards and DH promised to cut up some brush for me (from cutting down part of the apple tree a month or so ago) so I can get it ready for the trash.
I have to get back to my graphics homework so here's the update on food and exercise for the weekend.
Friday: Breakfast - Silver Dollar Pancakes & Veggie Sausage, JC lite table syrup, 1/2 c OJ with Perrier, 1 c skim milk; AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar; Lunch - Turkey Chili, huge garden salad, Diet Coke with Lime; Dinner - MOMO at Carnivores - 3 pieces house favorite pizza (house favorite means mostly meat with a few mushrooms and onions), 3 Coors Light drafts, 1 wing with "fire in the hole" sauce; Late PM Snack - 2 huge servings of chocolate Haggen Daas with walnuts and Hershey's syrup; Took all vitamins and drank 64 oz water. Walked to/from work. Walked home. Steps: 11401 (70 aerobic minutes; 4.67 miles)
Saturday: Breakfast - Sunshine Sandwich, 1 slice fat free cheese, 1/2 c OJ with Perrier, 1 c skim milk; AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar, Diet Coke; Lunch - MOMO Chinese place in the mall - Spicy Orange Chicken, fried rice, 2 egg rolls, large Diet Lemonade from Chick-Fil-A; PM Snack - Jenny's Cheese Curls; Dinner - Mesquite Chicken; Took all vitamins and drank 56 oz water. Had tax class (got a hundred on Quiz 1). Mowed the front yard when I got home. Started laundry. Steps: 11633 (41 aerobic minutes; 4.77 miles)
Sunday: Breakfast - MOMO at Casey's with DH - 2 poached eggs, dry english muffin, banana, iced tea; Lunch - MOMO at Dairy Queen with DH - Double Classic Cheeseburger, small salad with 3/4 container blue cheese, Diet Coke; Dinner - Potstickers; Late PM Snack - Chocolate Chip Bites, 1 c skim milk (from breakfast); Ran c25k in Oakmont after breakfast. DH finished his coffee, at Casey's, then waited for me in the car. Did a little shopping at Target and Sam's. Still doing laundry. I have to start the next graphics assignment today. Also have to complete a few more drawings for the midterm in art class. DH is doing really well with one of the assignments that is due for midterm - drawing a tool in the style of Jim Dine. Never heard of the guy, however his tool drawings are really cool!
Hard to believe it's Thursday already. I didn't realize that I would be so busy and tired by taking 3 classes, going to Curves 3 times a week, and continuing to run the c25k 3 times a week. What an idiot! Oh well, too late now regarding the classes.
Update on art classes - drawing class is still fun for me. DH is frustrated because the teacher isn't meeting his expectations. I set really low ones, so I'm fine. We have to have the following completed by the midterm (first or second week in October): 10 drawings of anything, goal project (turned in last night), contour line drawing, still life, and a "Jim Dine style" drawing (he's famous for tools). The graphics class is a little difficult, since it's over the net. I turned my "letterform" assignment in this morning (I'll post it later if I can scan it) as it is cute and simple. For that midterm, we have one more assignment and a 50 pt midterm quiz. There is a quiz in the tax class on Saturday. I'll review that info tomorrow night and Saturday morning so, hopefully, that will go OK.
Glad tomorrow is Friday (and jeans day) as it's been a long week - started off Sunday night and Monday morning with the remnants of Ike causing havoc with high winds (meaning I didn't sleep well), downed trees, and downed power lines. Believe it or not, there are still thousands of people here without power. Good news regarding Ike, the inlaws are OK, just lost some trees on the property and have no power.
Breakfast - Sunshine Sandwich, 1 slice fat free cheese, 1/2 c OJ with Perrier, 1 c skim milk
AM Snack - Cookies & Cream Anytime Bar
Lunch - Southwestern Burrito, Southwest salad (no meat) from Mickey Ds, Newman's Own Southwest dressing, Diet Coke with Lime
PM Snack - medium peach
Dinner - Meatloaf with BBQ Sauce, 2 Diet Cokes
Late PM Snack - Cookies & Cream Cheesecake, 2 Tbsp fat free cool whip
Took all vitamins and drank 75 oz water. Walked to/from McDs at lunch. Curved out. c25k after Curves. Glad you can't see me creaking around the house like a little old lady!
Hope you have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Dorothy said it - "There's no place like home." Happy to be back home from the business trip to Chicago. Had a good time, saw alot of colleagues that I only see once a year. However, happy to be home. I ate what I wanted, ran once, and kept to the JC plan for breakfast and lunch on Thursday and Friday. Back on plan yesterday and today. Looking forward to the next c25k run tonight. NOT looking forward to WI on Tuesday. Oh well, that just means next week's WI will be better.
Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I'm off for the Fall Sales Meeting in Chicago. There are 6-8 of us on the same plane, so we should have a good time at the airport before boarding the fire-tail bird. Looking forward to seeing some folks I only see in September. Also looking forward to cocktails both nights, casino night on Monday, and bowling on Tuesday. Did I say cocktails both nights? Woo hoo! I'm going to have some drinks on Monday night and maybe one or two on Tuesday. Don't want to be hung over for the presentation on Wednesday. I've already packed Crystal Light singles and snacks (vitamin bars for the AM and the following JC snacks for the PM - chocolate chip bites, chocolate chip snack bar, cheese curls) as well as an Oatmeal Raisin Square (just in case we get stuck on a plane somewhere). Hope these items will help me stay on track or at least not get too far off track during the trip.
Breakfast - MOMO at Casey's - egg beater omelet with spinach and mushrooms, small OJ with Perrier, iced tea, dry english muffin, 2 packets Smucker's Orange Marmalade
AM Snack - forgot about it (what's up with that - I rarely forget to eat the morning snack)
Lunch - MOMO at Casey's with DH - steak salad (no fries), 2 JC balsamic vinaigrette dressings, 3/4 bowl wedding soup, iced tea
PM Snack - 1/2 c OJ with Perrier
Dinner - Pasta Fagioli
Late PM Snack - Jenny's Cheese Curls
Drank 43 oz of water, so far, and will get in another 32 oz before the night is over. Went shopping after breakfast and lunch - at Target. I found a Wii game (Call of Duty 3) that I wanted during the AM trip and told DH to put it on my Christmas list. He wanted the game too so we bought it in the PM trip. Of course, he had to pick up another accessory for the game. We've had it for a week and have already bought extra stuff two or three times now.
Had to catch up on some work today since there is a 10 a.m. customer deadline tomorrow and I'll be in the air. So, I'm late starting to study Adobe Illustrator for the graphics class. Hope I can work on the homework either during the meeting or during the breaks.
The tax class that started yesterday wasn't bad. There are seven people in the class and the teacher seems nice and competent - two of my favorites! I caught up with the class late last night (reading and finishing the in-class exercises) however was too tired to get started on Chapter 2. That will have to wait until I get back from Chi-town.
Hope everyone has a good week and hope to see less of everyone at the end of next week!
Here are the before, during, and after pics that DH took this morning at my first 5k run. It was hot (78 degrees) and humid - hasn't been that warm that early in the day all summer. Had a fabulous time. Made both goals I set for the race: 1) finished the race (no DNF next to my name today; 2) ran the entire race - no walking
Don't know if that's a good time as the last mile was a struggle for me (I ran too fast at the beginning and got really tired after mile 2) however it's a great benchmark for future 5ks.
