Before After

I Wish

Sometimes I wish I could give up eating entirely until I was at my goal weight.  I swear, it would be easier to not eat ANYTHING than to go through the daily dance of eat this but not this, that but NOT that and these but definitely, especially not those.  Y'know?

*sigh*

Fiona

That was dumb

So, I went to bed shortly after finishing my previous post, around midnight-thirtyish.  I got up at 7.  News flash: my butt is draggin' this morning.

Gaaaaaaaaaah.

I don't know if this is a revelation to anyone else, but it occurs to me that not only do I function better on a full 8+, I actually sleep better if I go to bed before I'm *really* tired.  You know, kind of like "stop eating before you're full," only it's, "go to bed before you're tired."

I'm definitely taking my own advice tonight.

Fiona

Cause I can't sleep

Stayed out late on Saturday and STILL haven't quite gotten back to my usual rhythm.  Yeah, I know, staying up late night after night isn't going to help, either.

From my friend Raspberry Cordial:

On your own blog, copy and paste these questions, fill in your own answers where mine are and then leave a comment on my blog saying you've done so. In your own post, ask those who read your blog to then answer the same questions on their own blog, leaving a link/heads up in your comments as well to let you know who has responded in kind.

Let's get to know each other!

1) What ritual do you have to de-stress?

Mental/emotional stress, I prefer to lose myself in a favorite book.  Physical stress (like driving home from work in a blizzard on glaze ice roads, yuck!) I need a hot, HOT shower or soak in the tub.

2) First thing you do when you get up for the day?

Check e-mail, Google Reader, EP, and creditboards.com.  Yeah, I'm a geek like that.

3) Last thing you do before going to bed?

Usually either read a little, watch a little TV or "snuggle" with hubby.

4) Are you a Cat or Dog person?

Mostly cat. Cats are nice and low-maintenance, funny and occasionally snuggly.  I like dogs, and there's nothing quite like a dog's selfless devotion, but we haven't found the perfect one for our home yet.

5) Favourite television show?

Currently on the air: Scrubs.  Of all time: Friends!

6) Favourite movie?

Demolition Man, with Miss Congeniality, Legally Blonde, Empire Records and 50 First Dates all tied for second.    Yeah, I love dumb movies!

7) Favourite form of exercise?

Horseback riding.  And yoga.  I wish I were more diligent about doing both every day.

8) Favourite weekend activity?

no such thing as weekends in my life these days! Honestly, I have no good answer for this question.

9) Favourite healthy meal?

Meh.  Don't really have one at the moment.  Applebees had a grilled chicken sandwich that was awesome, but it's not on their menu right now.

EDIT: I thought of something!  I steak or chicken fajitas.  Whole wheat tortillas, fresh peppers and onions, lean protein, pico de gallo or salsa, a smear of FF sour cream and a sprinkle of RF cheese...heaven.

10) Favourite junk food?

Sweet: Reeses Pieces or chocolate-covered raisins.  Savory: Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch.

11) I am most proud of...?

that I never do things halfway.  Once I start a task, I do whatever is necessary to complete it to the best of my ability.  Now to figure out how to apply that quality to bigger-picture efforts!

12) I am least proud of...?

my lack of discipline, in a number of areas of my life.  I know this sounds contradictory to my answer above, but it's not.  If I decide to exercise, I give 110% for that 30 or 60 minutes.  But I'm not consistent about it.

13) I chose to start a blog on EP because...?

Good question.  Off the top of my head I have no idea, and if I think too hard about it I'll probably conclude that it's all a big waste of my time, or something, so I'm just not going to answer this one.

14) Three blogs on EP that I read on regular basis are...?

Gettinfit, Rasberry Cordial and...everybody else on my friends list.    I love that Friends Updates box!

15) If, at the snap of my fingers, I could change one thing about myself, it would be...?

Hmmm...gut reaction is to say "weight" because, don't we all want that?  But I think in the long run I'd be a happier person if I had that discipline I was talking about earlier.    Then I'd be able to acheive the body I desire AND so many other personal goals!

you need this book

"Eat This, Not That" - a book published by the nutrition editors at Men's Health magazine, is a super-handy guide to making the best possible choices at your favorite restaurants, fast food drive thrus, even the grocery store.  Not sure if it's for you? If you have a BN.com membership (free), you can read through the first several chapters almost in their entirety!  Believe me, it will open your eyes.  If eating in the real world is something you struggle with and - like me, you hate being that "no salt, no oil" high maintenance person , I highly recommend this book.

There is also a "Eat This, Not That!" Supermarket Survival guide (can't wait to get mine!) and an "Eat This, Not That!" For Kids (which I'm also interested in, not because my kids are overweight - they are distinctly not - but because I will take all the help I can get in feeding them as healthfully as possible!).  AND an Eat This, Not That weekly newsletter which you can sign up for at www.eatthis.com.

Baby steps to success

Remember my post from last week, about the small things that I've been doing right? Well...

I may have taken a peek at the scale this morning.

And I may have liked what I saw.

But that's all I'm going to say for now.

Random

Bunch of little stuff going on...nothing that quite deserves its own post, though:

* I'm on the tightest hooks on my bra...4 weeks ago it was on the loosest (guess maybe that "waist" measurement wasn't as bogus as I thought!)

* I did my 30 minutes cardio on the Wii yesterday but I didn't ride my horse .  Just plain ran out of time.

* I packed a HUGE salad for lunch and dinner today but I had a donut for breakfast and I'm still not drinking as much water as I should.

Let's see, that's / ...looks like I'm coming out ahead at the moment!

Happy anniversary to me

Today is the 11th anniversary of DH's and my first date!  I'm a lot like and and but also a little because after all, where does the time go?!

Fiona

P.S. We aren't doing anything special to celebrate tonight because I have to work.  Oh well!

Hurts So Good

To all the naysayers who think the Wii Fit is a fun toy but not a "real" workout, I say this:

You been doin' it wrong.

LOL!  I racked up 45 minutes yesterday doing yoga and strength - 45 sweaty, muscle-trembling minutes.  And I am totally feeling it today.  Shoulders, triceps, glutes....I love this feeling!  Why do I forget that?

Today is cardio - I am for sure going to ride my horse for at least 30 minutes this evening, but I'm also going to do some Wii aerobics if DS takes his nap before I have to leave for work.  Now, I do concede that the Wii is probably not enough of a workout for you Hard-Core Cardio Bunnies, but it is a pretty fun way to supplement a more rigorous cardio session. And for someone like ME, who is distinctly not a HCCB (that's Hard Core Cardio Bunny, if you weren't paying attention ), 10 minutes of Advanced Step is plenty to leave me red-faced and panting by the end.  (probably more from embarrassment at tripping over my own feet so often than from exertion, but still...)

WTF?

I applied for an individual health insurance policy (long story, not relevant) and I just found out they turned me down.  Because I'm outside of their height/weight matrix.

What. The.  F&#*@(@%.

Nevermind that my cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar are perfect, that I've never had a major medical claim aside from pregnancy, that nothing in my medical history would give them cause to think I'd be more expensive to insure than the next guy.  I could even understand if they wanted to charge me a higher rate.  But just..."No"???

I knew I should've lied on that @#$% application.

March 1: Stats Update

I did it...I did my weigh-and-measure this morning.   I didn't expect drastic changes from four weeks ago - I was sick and also not very disciplined with either my diet or exercise.  BUT better to face the music and move forward than to mope around. Losses are in green, stay-the-same is in black, and gains are in red:

Body part  - Feb 1  - Mar 1

  • Neck  -  13.75"  -  13.5"
  • Chest/armpit   - 43"  -  43"
  • Chest/boobs  -  47"  -  45.5"
  • Ribcage ("waist")  -  38.5"  -  36.25"
  • Belly  -  49.75"  -  49"
  • Hips (butt)  -  52.5"  -  52.5"
  • Thigh  -  31.5"  -  31.5"
  • Calf  -  19.25"  -  19.25"
  • Ankle  -  9"  -  9"
  • Bicep  -  16.25"  -  16.25"
  • Forearm  -  11.25"  -  11.25"
  • Wrist  -  6"  -  6"
Two immediate observations: (1) no changes except in my torso and (2) NO RED NUMBERS!!    I am a little bit baffled by those bust and waist numbers...I suspect it has at least a little something to do with inconsistency of measuring - that tummy area is kinda jiggly and hard to measure accurately.  April measurements will probably shed some light on things.   But in any case, I am SO thrilled to see that none of the numbers went up - I have developed a pretty thick skin about scale numbers but in exchange, seeing a measuring tape number go up is really depressing.

Speaking of scale numbers:  Feb 1 weight was 237.8; Mar 1 weight is...237.8.  Lends more credence to the poor-measuring theory, since I don't know how I could've lost over 4 inches, exercised hardly at all, and not lost a single fraction of a pound....? Eh, whatevs.  Onward!
