Before After

A new year and big plans

Looking back at a very eventful 2008, I made some progress on my big picture goals, but I am glad to be re-focused for the coming year.  As I get older, time slips by so much faster, it really underlines the need to make the most of every single day.  That more than anything else is my guiding resolution for this new year: one day at a time, and give it everything I've got.

Planning for Success

I am following WW Flex (at home) which I think will work well for me, as long as I stay focused, it's a great program.  I am also putting together a list of "swaps" -- food/beverages I want to decrease/eliminate and others that I want to increase/add. I think that having my healthier alternatives mapped out will help me make better choices in the moment.

Some of my planned substitutions:

Brown bag lunches instead of deli/sandwich shop
Cereal instead of cookies/muffins
Raw veggies instead of cheese and chips
More WATER!!! less beer and wine
More fruit, less candy and chocolate (candy's not really a big problem, but I need to up my fruit intake)
Yogurt instead of ice cream

I am also going to carry around a post-it with my target weight for my next weigh-in, to keep me focused during the week.  So right now I have a bright pink sticky with "214" on today's page, stuck to the section named "important today".  I'll move it to tomorrow's page in the morning. Since I live by my planner, it will be a constant reminder during the day.

End of Week One

Two pounds down from one week ago, so I am happy with this as a first step. I've been using these couple of weeks before Jan 1 to gear up for a full program starting in the new year, getting organizing, writing out meal plans, clearing out pantry and fridge, starting to keep my food journal with more precision.  I've been drinking more water and eating more fiber this week, and I can tell that my g/i system is adjusting and feeling much the better for it.

I am just going to focus on one step at a time, one week at a time, one pound at a time.  No slacking off to "celebrate" a good week, no giving up because of a not so good week.

Holiday Blahs

Christmas was lovely, but I just have not had much holiday spirit this year.  Just feeling a little blah, not exactly stressed, not exactly unhappy.  Kind of short fuse, a little more impatient than usual.  Curiously, this has not resulted in any kind of weird eating behavior.  I'm not snacking, or stuffing myself or overeating, not even particularly interested in food at all.  Didn't even over-indulge on Christmas.

I am looking forward to getting into gear in the new year, and getting organized this last week or so has been really satisfying.  Now I just need to make sure I put all those good plans into action on all fronts.

Tomorrow will be weigh-in, week one.  I have set myself a goal to lose one pound a week, and hope to keep my expectations realistic on this journey.  I know if I keep my focus and resolve, I can be at my goal weight in a year.

Prep Day Two

Need to get in the simple habit of posting every morning to help my focus get set for the day.  I must finally do something about this...I've been waiting for something to "click" and I just can't wait for the "click" any more.  Maybe I need to follow that old reminder: "fake it till you make it" at this point.  Time is slipping by too quickly and I must stop wasting it.

Getting Ready

Deep breath!  I will use the next 10 days to prepare myself for the big journey that lies ahead.  2009 will be MY year!
