Before After

Nursing school and exercise do not get along well.

okay, so u may have noticed that my last post was right after getting into nursing school, if youve ever been through the nursing school process you would know why ive had no time for further posts lol  exercise has also suffered unfortunately!! somehow,at least for now, i have managed to continue to lose some pounds even though i have not had time to keep up with exercising or eating as well as i had been b4 nursing school took over my life lol  hope everyone is reaching their goals no matter what they are!

I MADE IT IN!!!!

Okay , so its been about a month or whatever since Ive been on here to post anything. I hope that all of yall had an amazing Christmas! So, dont know if i posted that I was waiting to hear in Dec. if I made it into the Nursing Program or not, but I got confirmation this month that I MADE IT IN! ....ive worked my butt off this year with two very important things to me, getting in better shape, and doing what I had to do to get into nursing school....so far so good on both accounts....I start January 18th and I will be socially out of commission for pretty much longer than a years time. I dont know how often I will be able to jump on here and update my profile, but I ill make sure to try and update at least once a couple months.  I hope that everyone has an amazing New Years, heres to 2011 and all our dreams coming true!!!!!!

Step-aerobics

So I have recently started doing step aerobics. The reason I started to use step aerobics as my main cardio routine is because of the potential to burn a lot of calories. Doing step aerobics  for 60mins(researched this a lot) pretty much burns more calories for me at my weight than most any other form of exercise I could do in the same amount of time. At my weight I can burn somewhere(depending on intensity) between 500 to over 700 calories in one hour class.  Now trust me when I say this, if you are not a regular exerciser an hour long class can really be draining and somewhat painful(take regular breaks if you feel too fatigued or if you start to have chest pains or trouble breathing!!!)
I also went out and bought a pair of cross-training shoes because you definitely need amazing foot and ankle support to do this form of exercise. I will say that my back does get some pain and occasionally my knees will as well, when this happens I stop doing the arm movements or stop doing the lunges when i step. I think this is a great form of exercise and can be modified to make it more comfortable to the stepper. Currently I take an hour long step class at the ymca on monday evenings as well as i have a personal step at home. I am new to this form of exercise so ask me in a month if I still enjoy it lol. Wish me(my back and knees lol) luck on keeping this exercise up!

Heres to all of us on GOBBLE GOBBLE DAY , let us hope we can keep the pounds away!

Hope that all who celebrate this holiday have a very enjoyable experience with friends and family tomorrow(and even a good experience with food)  I hope that we can all make wise choices and not beat ourselves up if we dont. Remember that a holiday is meant to be an enjoyable experience and not one of calorie counts and emotional self abuse. Have a great ThanksGiving everyone, and dont be so hard on yourself if you dont stay within your restrictive rules that most of us have already set for ourselves. :-)

Where o where did that 5lbs go? ...oh, there it is!

Basically this post is about a frustration that im dealing with lately. Seems everytime that I have stepped on the scale for the last few weeks I continue to weight in between 225 and 230( when your goal is 190, a plateau just will NOT do). I was watching dr oz today and he was mentioning that cayenne pepper pills(or seasoning form) is a really great metabolism booster. Has anyone here used the peppers for this and have you noticed if it really does work? I am considering getting the pill form and giving it a whirl,

BOTTOMLESS PIT!!!!

Today I feel like a bottomless pit, seriously! I woke up starving so I ate a unsweetened applesauce(50cals), a couple of hours later I had some petite carrots(apprx 1/2 cup)with a couple tablespoons of reduced fat dressing(apprx 50 cals) along with a weight watchers string cheese(50 cals). Then just about an hour ago I was once again hungry so I had 2 spicy chicken breaded patties( with 90 percent of the breading removed) (250 cals)and one of those frozen twice baked potato things that come in the carton(120 cals) Plus a fat free pudding(80 cals). Thats what? 700 calories before 3pm, geez. I havent even worked out yet, not even my walking tape, this is just a bad day.
I have had back pain for the last few days and I am thinking that I pulled a muscle in my back, the pain is not only intense, it is frustrating and annoying! logically I know that working out with a pulled muscle is not a very smart idea, but I am the type of person that if i take days off to heal, I will likely not get back up to exercise again for weeks.  I feel sooo lazy and fat today, ugh, Its so frustrating to feel like this when I know that I have been doing a pretty good job lately with my food and exercising.
I know that good days and bad days happen to us all no matter our weight or energy level and I guess today is my day to have a pity party, heres to hoping tomorrow is better!

Recipes

Okay , so I read a book from a woman who lost 200 lbs(good book btw) and at the end of the book she included several recipes that are low in calories. Below is one that I have made a couple of times and it is simply delicious each time(even the hubby and son eat it)...Hope you try it and enjoy it, and if you have any low cal dishes that you dont mind sharing the recipe to, please post a comment to this blog and share.

CREAMY BAKED CHICKEN BREASTS:

ingredients:

Four 6 ounce chicken breasts, cut in half
4 ounces low-fat swiss cheese, sliced(im sure you could use any low fat cheese that you like, but the swiss tastes awesome with this recipe)
ONE regular size(10and3/4 ounce) can fat-free cream of chicken soup(ive also used the regular kind and just adjusted the caloric levels)
2 cups Stove Top Stuffing Mix, crushed( I use stove top chicken flavored stuffing(reduced sodium) and leave the stuffing in the bag and crush with hands til you feel that the pieces are crumbled to way smaller pieces)
1 cup 98 percent fat-free chicken broth

preperation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, Arrange chicken(uncooked) breasts side by side in a baking dish. Lay swiss cheese pieces over the chicken breasts. Combine the soup with 1/4 cup of water , mix and pour on top of chicken and cheese pieces. Open bag and top with crushed stove top stuffing mix and last step, drizzle the chicken broth over the top of dish(top of stuffing to moisten) Bake (uncovered) for 45 to 55 minutes( I usually do 55 minutes)  This dish is just delicious and the stuffing is so moist due to the cream of chicken soup which also adds alil creaminess to it, VERY satisfying.  Last time i prepared this, I also added a can of sliced mushrooms and it was great. ( if you try this recipe and add things here and there like veggies, let me know how it was)

LOW-CARB OPTION:

substitute 1 large slice of lean ham for the stuffing mix and cut into 8 slices. Place some ham and swiss cheese on each chicken breast and fold in half. Secure with a toothpick, increase the cooking time from above by 5 minutes.

Weight Tracker Issues

Oookay, sooo Ive been trying to create a weight tracker on the site, however, I have been having nothing but troubles. For some reason, the tracker will not allow me to set a future goal date so naturally the page will not create a weight tracker that has a start date and goal date one in the same. I have messaged(and recieved confirmation of my messages) to the costumer care for the site, and yet, nothing.  So I guess I will just have to blog my advancements.
So, if you picture the weight tracker, my top line would have been at 276lbs, then over two years it would have declined to 258(which is what i was in early august) and now it would have continued a decline down to 230lbs-231lbs(which is what I am currently.)

working out

So , I recently went to my neighborhoods local YMCA to check out their gym and facilities. I ended up purchasing a monthly membership mainly for two reasons: no contracts ,and the fact that I like the thought that my monthly dues are going to my community center and not just in some random gym owners wallet.
I have worked out there a couple times this week and I must say that I am quite pleased with their facility.  I also do leslie sansones( i think that is her name, dont wanna get up to look lol) 3 mile brisk walk tape which helps me burn roughly 200 to 300 calories per workout.  I am relatively new to the whole exercise thing(started regular workout in early august.) I have never really exercised on a regular basis in my past and that , i believe, is one of the main reasons that any weight lost in my past never stayed off.
I am a realist, and I know that there will be days that I will not want to get up and exercise and I am not going to pretend that I will search within to some deep fiber of my being and pull myself outta bed and go anyways lol(i wont), but I will do my best to exercise more days than I dont.  None of us are perfect in mind or body, nor are we some cardio robots so I know that we may not all reach our goals in the time that we wish, but as long as we continue to try, and as long as we continue to support one another along the way, we will eventually lose this extra weight that holds us down, and find a few new friends that lift us up. Heres to our journey!!

The Beginning of A New Life

My name is Keisha and I am new to this site and new to blogging for that matter lol. I am 33 yrs old and overweight. I have been basically over weight most of my 33 years of life(with a year here or there being of normal weight)  After I had my son 14 years ago I started to really pack on weight(on my already overweight body) and eventually got up to my highest weight of nearly 280lbs.
I am a tall woman, standing nearly 5ft 11 and so I have managed to carry myself well even at a higher weight, but I believe that may be a bitter-sweet thing. Being tall ( for some, and for me personally) you start to feel that you can just add more weight and more weight and as long as you dont appear to weigh what the scale screams at you then you may not  really get bothered too much with numbers.
As I have gotten older, and am about to open a new phase in my life in education( attending nursing school in jan) I want to get in better shape by losing some weight and also upping my stamina/ energy level.  I started this weight loss journey on August 7th 2010(weight was about 260lbs(lost some after taking an over the counter fat blocker(lil blue pill) although it took me nearly two years and countless dollars to lose about 20lbs) , and now by taking phentermine along with calorie counting and continuous exercise(something i had never done before, used to i would just eat what i wanted and pop a pill(not good), i have managed to lose nearly 30lbs. I am close to halfway to my goal weight of 190lbs.  I have went from an initial size of 26/28 to a 18/20 in most clothing(and occasionally a 22 in some things)
Of course as most things in life, when something is new and you are just starting out it all seems to go sooo easily, and with time the motivation, stamina, energy and effort seem to deminish little by little.  I have my good days and my bad and I believe that the this sites forum will be a handy emotional tool to get me through those seemingly impossible days.  I wish us all luck on our journeys and thank you to all my fellow life changers out there for sharing your stories, inspiration and time with the rest of us, g'luck everyone!!
