Before After

It's just like riding a bike!

Well, haven't said much for a few days.  Though you're probably relieved, as when I do say something - I tend to use a lot of words, and not say really anything that profound!

I did something new this weekend.  I dusted off my son's mountain bike, and I rode around the neighborhood.  Ok.  It's been at least 20 years since I've been on a bike (ouch, giving away my age??)  Not to mention, this is a boys bike - and my son is much taller than me.

After DH tried to adjust the seat - and unfortunately it's as "low" as it goes! - I attempted to climb aboard.  Oh, if only America's Funniest Videos had been around; or was I setting myself up to be "Punked"?  Actually, it was a lot more - almost - like "WipeOut" than anything else!!!  Those "big balls" on the show are nothing - try climbing on a too tall boys mountain bike.

Pretty shaky at first... I finally got the strength to push that pedal and actually get mounted on the bike, only to realize I didn't remember how to use the breaks.  Or, how to turn.  Or, how to get up a hill.  Or.. change the gears, so I wasn't in the 16th gear.... good Lord, how does my son do it?!  My bike was never that complicated.  Give me a good old "huffy" with 3 speeds and no boy bar, and I'll be happy.

I finally got my "sea legs", and made it to the end of the street, where to my neighbors great entertainment and chagrin, I attempted to wave and turn at the same time.  They say a "rednecks" final words are usually, "Hey! Look what I can do!!"  I think that about says it all.  At least I didn't end up in the hospital, and my neighbor was very kind to bring me a band-aid for my scraped up knee.  That's what I get for showing off.  But, I got back in the saddle, and for the next 20 minutes rode back and forth in a straight line, hitting a glacial pace of about 2 miles an hour lol.

Despite my "hey watch this" moment, it was soooooo much fun!  I had so much fun, that I came in, lifted some weights, did some squats, and then couldn't stand it, and went back out and tried the bike again.  This time I made it all over the neighborhood - I even evaded the teacup chihuaha that tried to eat me as I went by.  I made it up one hill, but was too chicken to get up the speed on the way down to make it up the next hill - and ended up walking the bike the rest of the way up.  I walked it through the turn as well, wasn't going to chance that again.

By the end of the ride, I was sailing past the neighbors - and he and his wife toasted me with his beer, and they clapped and whistled lol.

I don't know how many calories I burned - but I had an absolute blast.  So, as I continue to celebrate my birthday month, I've decided that I'm going to spend my "birthday" money on my very own bike.

Does anyone know where you can find a nice padded seat, baloon tire bike with streamers, cards in the spokes, and a bell????

Oh! And let's not forget the "daisy" basket, so I can carry my water - and fresh supply of band-aids, ibuprofin and ice packs.

xoxo

Awesome!

Look at you conquering the mountain bike!  Rock on.  You even had fun?!  Can't beat that.

Good for you...

Trish, how cool you must have looked...riding around on that bike!!  I live in one of the bikingest cities in the world...really!!  My town has bike paths all over and the campus has soooooo many students that ride bikes that you risk life and limb trying to cross the street during class change time!!  You have to obey all the rules of the road, just like a car...and it is just like driving on a freeway...but instead you are on a bike.  It's kinda fun.  We even have bike cops that give you a ticket for running stop signs, speeding, etc.  It's funny.  Fortunately, I haven't received a ticket yet...I'm pretty safe on my cruiser bike.  I'm not as brave as you though, my bike doesn't have hand brakes.  I just peddle backwards to stop.  And I don't do speeds...my bike is one speed...slow!    But hey, that's enough for me!

I got my cruiser bike at Target for $119.00.  Of course, I upgraded to a beachcomber type seat, added a bell (to warn people I was on the road), basket (to carry the cat), and streamers ~ all these cost extra but are worth every penny.  You'll be looking quite "cool" out on your bike when you have it all decked out....good for you!!!

Maybe you should post a pic of you on your new bike!!

Take Care,

Julia

How wonderful!

Sounds like you had a really great time.  I have a bike and I plan to get back on it soon!  Of course since it has been in storage the tires are flat etc...

Hi!

Sound like you had fun on the bike.  I tried riding mine several months ago and swore I'd never ride it again LOL.

Anyway,  thank you so much for the words of encouragement you left on my blog - gained 4 pounds in 1 day - I think you are right about the sodium.  I have been drinking water today to flush all that out...blah and weighed again and I had lost 2 more pound from the 4 pounds I gained so you are right about it being fluid.

It's so funny a month ago I would not have thought twice about eating that hot dog, but now that I am really watching what I eat it was hard to eat the hot dog and not feel guilty...  I am determined to get this weight off!

Wowzers!

You certainly have had some amazing things happen to you since I have been gone.  I loved our July 4th posting, and I plan to join you in reaching for our independence weight wise.  I love your pics, and can SOOOOO relate to feeling fat when in fact you were not.  It is really a sad sad state of things huh?  I admire you and your resilience and I am waiting patiently for the pic of you and your new bike.  :)
