Okay, so the last time I posted, I said that hubby was going to go the very next day and add me to his gym membership. He did actually go the very next day and brought me my very own card. Yay!
Of course, then the kids got sick, and I was sceered to go by myself (yes, I know I'm a baby - I have never stepped foot in a gym before in my life or been a physically active person at all). I wanted to go with him at least one time so he could kind of give me a tour and show me how to use some of the stuff. Well, it's hard for us to get out together anyway, and unless I got up at 4 in the morning (not gonna happen), I was going to have to go at night, which I didn't want to do because I was afraid working out would make me hyper.
I know what you're thinking - just another bunch of excuses. I know already. I finally decided that I had to go, so we went last night. It was late, but I figured I wouldn't work myself to death, just try some stuff out. I am so glad we went! I was somewhat overwhelmed with all the equipment and I felt like a total dork walking around looking like I had no idea what I was doing. That's because I am a dork, but I digress.
Hubby showed me something that worked on the tummy and booty, and I wanted to try out the stationary bike. Wasn't as scary as I thought. Afterwards I tried the treadmill, which was cool. I never thought I'd want to use one of those as I love walking around here, but, I must say, the treadmill has little doodads that a neighborhood walk around here doesn't, like the ability to go uphill. I live in a very flat area. As I know walking the best, I imagine that's what I'll use the most.
It's good that I finally went, because I'm really not dieting anymore, just maintaining between 136 and 139. I'm not going to lose the rest unless I move.
So anyway, I woke up this morning "under the weather". Hopefully I can knock it out though, I can't wait to go back!

Gym Memberships - Now we HAVE to go !!
Hi Suz'
I joined a gym this week as well.
They have a machine at my gym that I had never heard of before, I think it's called a Platelette ??
It still makes me laugh thinking about it. You stand on the plate, which has a rubber mat on it. You hold on to the handles and it shakes you.
You can stand on it with your knees bent and let it shake you for 30 seconds, you can lay on the floor and lean your arms on it and let it shake you, but the funniest position was standing on tip toe. It shook me from toe to hair line, right through my body, even my contact lenses were shaking up and down in my eyes! It reminded me of the old saying about us girls 'sitting on a washing machine' - hence the smile that comes to my face whenever I think about it now !!
See, the gym ain't such a bad place after all - Enjoy !!
Yay! I'm glad that he finally stopped procrastinating and just got you the darn membership already! Congrats to you for going! When I used to go to the gym, I was intimidated when my friend stopped going. Then I realized that no one was looking at me, no one was laughing at me, and the people who worked there were genuinely glad to help someone out if they didn't understand how to do something properly (after all, if everyone who goes to a gym is a hardbody, the employees don't really have anything to do!). That realization made me much more comfortable, and I really loved going. I would love to start back...
I think it's great that you're maintaining at a weight that really seems to look good on you. I also think it's great that you're still determined to lose that last few pesky pounds. You're an inspiration to us all!
That's great you got over that hurdle. And that you knew to go with a buddy the first time and just try stuff out rather than workout. One has to get oriented in new environments.
Thanks for posts to me lately, nice to get them! I've been bad about responding because of my busyness. But life is more back to normal now. yay!
Congrats on maintaining!! That is a huge success and not to be underrated!
I'm just someone from the Sisters group stopping by to say Hi!
I think it's GREAT you went to the gym!!! Just great!!!
I like being at the gym. When I look around I see "proactive" people. People who are not just talking about getting healthy, but doing something about it. We are all at different levels and stages, but in a way, we are all in it together. We are all there doing something about our health. In my mind, that levels the playing field for me. Makes me feel a little less intimidated.
Anyway...am glad you went. It's great that you want to go back. :)
Glad that you found it all to your liking and that you are encouraged to continue. It sounds like you had an idea of how you wanted it to be and it turned out to fit that idea pretty well. I'd say the timing is just right for you where you are now in your progress. Great!
