Before After

walkin'

Today was an interesting day.  My son and I went swimming, this morning, and we got home from the pool around 11:30.  He napped for a bit, woke up, ate a tiny bit watched me fold laundry, then napped some more.  Then we were off to the doctor's for his 6 month visit.  He's getting really long and lean.   17 lbs 2 oz, and 18.25 inches in length.  He also got 2 vaccinations today, so he's been really needy and tired.  My hubby just got me to go in and check on him, and he's seems to be running a mild fever too.  I'll have to check again before I go to bed.

Outside of all that , I got the chance to go walking by myself tonight.  My hubby got home and watched our son while I went for a walk with my mp3 player, and no stroller to push.  I only shaved 10 minutes off my walking time without him along, which was a little bit disappointing.  It took 90 minutes with him and 80 minutes without. But I guess it means that when I'm pushing him, I'm getting a good workout too.  I also realized that I like walking close to sunset, because my shadow was long, and lean, and in front of me, for a large part of the way.  It was a pretty good motivator. :)

On the food front, I ate pretty well today, I journalled everything right up to dinner.  I'm not really sure how many calories my dinner was, since it's one of my longstanding dishes, and I put in whatever we have in the house.  I did measure out a cup of rice, and then on top of it, is a kind of stir fry stew, with beef , vegetables, garlic, onions, spices, and bbq sauce.  I was going to try to figure it out, but I just don't have the energy right now.  I figure it was probably about 5-600 calories altogether.

Tomorrow, me and my hubby are going to help my mom move into a new apartment.  It shouldn't take too much time, I know she has already moved most of the smaller stuff herself.  So I'm not sure whether I'll get the time to do an actual "workout" but I figure the moving will be enough exercise.

Weigh In

I just got back from my official weigh in, and I was down 0.4 lbs.  Technically, since last week's meeting was canceled due to Victoria Day,  I was down 2.4 lbs, for the last 2 weeks.  But I did my unofficial weigh in at home for this blog, last Tuesday.

So, all in all it wasn't a big loss, but I'm happy with it.  At least it wasn't a gain.  I figure I've still got a bit of water weight left from my Taco Bell debacle on Sunday morning.

Today was a good day, I ate within my plan, and I also got out this afternoon with my son and walked 8km (5 miles).  So I feel really good about that.  I also managed to get a couple loads of laundry and dishes done too!  I'm feeling really happy with the day.  Today, I actually feel like I can handle my life!

Girls Night Out

I had a Girls Night Out last night. It was so much fun.   I went to visit a friend, and another friend came over and we had a girls night out, starting with having a girls night in.

My hubby had agreed to watch our son overnight while I had my fun.  It's not so much fun to have a night out, if you still have to get up early in the morning with your kids. My son is six months old now, and other than my birthday, I haven't gone out to a bar to dance, since my son was born.  Hell, since before he was born.  I hadn't been out since St. Patrick's Day last year.  Now that I'm not breastfeeding anymore, it's not that big a deal either.

So I had arranged my diet plan to allow me to have 6 glasses of wine.  I had also brought some healthy snacks with me so that if we got the munchies I wouldn't go overboard.  The night was super fun, I did feel a little self conscious, being the heaviest of my friends, but I didn't let it bother me too much.  I mean it's not like I was looking for a man anyway! :)

My problem came after the bar was done.  I (and my friends) were drunk, and hungry.  So we were going to grab something to eat before we crashed for the night.  Long story short - I ended up eating Taco Bell at 3:00 in the morning. Bleah!  I can't believe I did it, but it was so good.  It did help settle my stomach though.  That and about 5 glasses of water fixed me up so that I didn't have a hangover in the morning.  The friend that didn't eat TB, couldn't say the same.

So when I sat down at the computer this afternoon, and googled the nutritional values for what I ate, I was shocked!!!  My little treat, had cost me 950 cals and like 50 grams of fat!  OUCH!!!
My life Lesson from this:  Don't Eat While Drunk!

*sigh*

....and my weigh in is tomorrow.

brownies

So, today I needed to go to the bank, and wanted to stop by the grocery store to pick up a couple of things.  Fridays are pretty laid back around here, no appointments, no commitments. So I decided we were going to walk.  I brought my water bottle and my MP3 player with me, it was a nice warm day.  Ryan was with me, so Iwas pushing the stroller the whole way too. I left after my morning snack, and when I got home I was ready for lunch!  It was delicious, I had worked up an appetite in the heat.  After lunch, I mapquested my route, and it ended up being 5.25 km, with lots of hilly sections.  Not too shabby. :)

So the exciting thing I got while I was out was this. They're Fat Free brownies, that I'm dying to try.  Since today is my strict, no bending the rules, day, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try them out.  I'm going out with a girlfriend tomorrow night, so I think I'll make a couple and bring her one.  That's the great thing about them, they have quite a few recipes you can use to make individual brownies in your microwave.  So I won't be tempted to eat half a pan, like every other time I bake. :P

I kind of cheated while I was at the store too.  They were giving out free samples of sausage in the freezer aisle, and I ate a sample, and completely forgot until I was walking away that I wasn't going to stray from my plan.  Oh well, I'm still sticking to it for the rest of the day.  I won't use that as an excuse to start straying even more. :)

A new goal

I kind of live by the moment. I go to the fridge and cupboards when I am hungry, and eat what strikes my fancy.  The only thing structure I have in my daily routine is breakfast.  I always eat within an hour of getting up, and I always have a healthy cereal.  Usually it's cheerios, oatmeal, or something with lots of fibre like Fibre 1 or a bran cereal.

Other than that I'll eat leftovers or graze all day long.  Usually dinner is structured as well, since I'm cooking for my husband and myself.  My problems are the days when I have too much to do, and my son doesn't cooperate.  So after a day where I ate out twice (yesterday) because I was so busy, I am recommitting myself to my diet.

I have planned all of my meals for tomorrow, including snacks, and I am going to stick exactly to plan, eating nothing I have not preplanned for. I know that I can do it.  I would like to see another 1-2 lbs off for my weigh in this Monday, and it's not just going to happen magically.

Reason #2

To keep me motivated, I am going to keep track, and post my 65 Reasons to lose 65 lbs.

I would like to be able to walk or run, without my thighs rubbing together.  Today I went out to run some errands with my son, and I was wearing a skirt and sandals.  no hose.  As I'm walking across the parking lot pushing my son's stroller, I am getting irritated by my thighs rubbing together.  It was hot and muggy, and all I was thinking was "I wish I had worn shorts or pants".

Don't even get me started on all the pants that are ruined before their time, from the friction pilling!

Slightly off-track

So yesterday, was my in-laws visit.  We had a great time, they got to see their grandson, and he was extremely well behaved the entire time they were here.  I'm sure they'll go home thinking he's a perfect angel.  If only they knew!

It was a beautiful day, so we sat out back on our patio for most of the afternoon.  Then for Dinner they took us all out to the Mandarin, a chinese food buffet restaurant.  It was an excellent meal, and I kind of let go of my diet restrictions.  I had a glass of white wine, two plates of food, and a plate of dessert.  The only thing that was moderately redeeming, is that I had cleaned all morning, and only had very small meals all day.  by the time dinner rolled around, I had probably consumed less than 1000 calories. I got 3 servings of vegetables with my dinner as well. Snow Peas, broccoli, and carrots.  Not as bad as I could have been.

Since yesterday was a Holiday (Victoria Day) my weekly TOPS meeting was canceled.  It was just as well, since I wouldn't have gone anyway, due to our visitors.  But that means I didn't get my weekly weigh in.  So I just went and got on the scale now, and I'm down 2 lbs for the week.  I'll use this as my unofficial weigh in.  I much prefer the scale at the meeting, since it is very accurate, and measures to the nearest tenth of a pound.  The bad food I ate yesterday is probably affecting my weight, but that's the price I pay for overindulging.

As for exercise, I worked out on Sunday, but not yesterday (well I did housework all morning). This morning, I went to the pool with my sun, and my thighs are feeling it now.  My husband has today off work, so we'll probably go for a walk with my son as well this afternoon.  Although when I walk with my hubby, I don't think of it as exercise, since we talk while we walk, and I never break a sweat.

Reason #1

To keep me motivated, I am going to keep track, and post my 65 Reasons to lose 65 lbs.

So I can go bathing suit shopping, and pick the pretty suits. I don't like having to check first to see what they have in my size, if anything.  Not to mention trying camouflage what is essentially unhideable.

Up Late

Man, I'm up late tonight.  I was so tired this morning.  I was up late last night, and my son woke me up once during the night. I think I got about 5 hours sleep in total. Yay me!

Then I went garage sale-ing this morning and I got a few good deals.  I packed my son up in his stroller and walked the neighbourhood.  By the time I got back home, he was asleep, and the stroller  was piled high. :)  So, as soon as I unpacked the stroller, and tried to transfer him to bed, he was wide awake and wanting to play.  I didn't end up getting him to go for another nap until almost one.  I had intended to get some things done while he was sleeping, but I ended up having a nap myself.  I needed it, but now, I'm on the same cycle again, and up much later than I should be.

My eating today was pretty on track until dinner.  I didn't go too overboard or anything.  I had 3 pieces of pizza, 1/8 of a pie each, and I had ice cream for dessert a couple hours later. about a 1 cup serving.

Tomorrow should be nice again.  But I'm not sure I'll be able to get outside very much.  My mother in law and her husband are coming to visit on Monday, and I want to have the house clean and organized when they get here.  So I'll be active around the house at least.  I think I'll try to get my walk in anyway.  If not, I'll wait until my husband gets home from work, and maybe take a trip to the gym. :)

Happy Friday!

So today I thought I was going to be stuck at home all day.  Our washer broke down last week, and we went appliance shopping on Sunday.  We ended up ordering a pretty good and reasonably priced washer dryer set for $699.  Plus we got 6 months no interest and no payments.  Which is great because we are very cash poor at the moment.

I also put the car in the shop for some repairs yesterday, and the car was supposed to be ready today.  So I needed to wait for them to phone me today, because otherwise I would have had to wait until Tuesday to pick it up. (Long weekend)

The point of all this is that I needed to wait at home today for the delivery men to come, and for the garage to call.  So the delivery men showed up at 9:00 am, Just as I was out of the shower, and half dressed!   After they put them in the basement, I installed them and set them up and put in my inaugural load of laundry!  Trust me it was exciting.  I've never owned a brand new washer and dryer.  I always got them used before.  Plus we got 25 lbs of detergent for free with the set.

Then the garage called around 12:30, so I was able to walk down there and pick up the car. Then I was free! Free to do whatever I wanted with the rest of the day.  So after I got the car back, I filled it up, ran some errands, came home, fed, changed, and slept my son, Ryan.  When he woke up we went for a walk, approx. 5 km, and came home.  It was a wonderful day, and I felt like I could have gone forever.  Ryan fell asleep after about 30 mins, and I just listened to my MP3 player and kept going.

Now I'm trying to decide what to make for dinner.  I was thinking Hamburger Helper, but I'm pretty sure that's not a nutritious choice.  Which leads me to a question I was thinking about.  When I use ground beef in a recipe, I ALWAYS drain off the excess fat.  Does the nutrition info for a meal with ground beef take that into account? Anyone know?
