I am a Teen Again!!!
My weight has dropped to 119.4Kg. It is so much nicer saying I am one hundred and something TEEN Kg rather then twenty, thirty, forty or fifty. It's a mind thing!
To drop from 156Kg (344lbs) down to 119Kg (264lbs), no better feeling,.....for now.
Only 29.4Kg (64lbs) to reach my goal.

Yay me!
Yay me, I am no longer classified as Morbidly Obese. Today my BMI dropped to 39.9 and I am only Obese. I know it's only academic, but it feels good anyway...
Life is good.

Optifast Diet - Amazing!!!
Just want to make a few comments on the medically approved "Optifast" diet my surgeon has placed me on to lose 12Kg prior to my operation. The idea is to shrink my fatty liver and create more room to make the operation easier and cause less post operative pain. I'm all for that...
I've only been on the diet 5 days now and have lost 4.6Kg. Amazing, best diet ever!!!
I've gone from 153.5Kg down to 148.9Kg. My operation is on February 23rd, so I only need to lost 7.4Kg in the next 21 days or so. I should do it easily.
The first 3 days I suffered with incredible hunger, but toughed it out. The past 2 days has been a breeze with only little feelings on hunger.
All in all I'm happy with the way the diet is going.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
Hello Everyone,
I'm back here after a 15 month absence with a major new update to my weight loss strategy. This has come about after yet further dismal failures at weight loss via the regular method involving diet and exercise. Essentially I have admitted defeat and have decided to try something more radical that to an extent takes the process out of my hands. My health has suffered too much to waste anymore time on pointless diets that simply do not work in the long term.
On the 23rd February 2011 I will be undergoing a Vertical Sleeve Gastectomy in hospital. For those that are not familiar with the procedure, it is where a surgeon cuts out about 80% of the stomach leaving it with a capacity of about 250ml. That's about 2/3rds of a can of coke.
Apparently on average, most people will virtually lose all their excess weight within 12 months. It is even said to be a more succesful method to the popular Gastric Banding with less hassle involved.
There is about 3 weeks till the operation. I now need to start a very low calories diet (Optifast) to loss 12 kilograms and shrink my liver on orders from the surgeon. Apparently it makes the operation easier and the liver does not get as bruised when they push it out of the way to access the stomach.
If anyone reading blog this had undergone this procedure I'd love to hear about your experiences.
I will keep you updated.

Goal-Oriented Behavior
As of today I can now say I am 130 something kilograms, rather then the 150 something kilograms I was when I started this diet, or the 140 something kilograms of the past few weeks.
Being 139 kilograms rather then 140 kilograms may make little difference in a medical or health sense, but it marks another measurable goal achieved and helps me feel good about myself.
My ultimate goal is to weight below 90Kgs, but that is probably 6 to 12 months away. If that was my only goal I would probably lose interest in the diet and give up as it seems so far away and unachievable.
So in the mean time I have decided to set a string of goals in the shorter term.
Some obvious goals are weight markers like 130Kg, 120Kg and 110Kg, etc.
Less obvious goals are to do with things like my reducing Body Mass Index (BMI), fitting back into favorite old clothing items, or exercise goals such as being able to run certain distance in a certain time or being able to perform a nominated amount of push-ups or sit ups, etc.
I will give this matter some serious thought over then next few days and report back soon in another blog update listing goals I have set myself.
Any suggestions?

One Small Step for Stephen, One Giant Leap for Life!
I am back down 10Kg from my heaviest weight ever (153Kg) and it feels great to be back in control again.
Clearly I have a long way to go to get below 90Kg, but for now the 10Kg is a small victory worth celebrating. People will say "what's the big deal, it's only 10Kg", but what those people don't understand is that it is not about the weight. It's about the fact I have taken back control of my life and what a great feeling that is...

Forgive me father for I have sinned...
It's been 9 months since my last confession.
In that time I gained 18Kg to reach 153Kilos, the heaviest recorded weight of my life.
Statistics and humor aside, my level of health and fitness deteriorated considerably, which affected my quality of life. My diabetes was much harder to control, I was exhausted 24/7 and would get out of breath simply walking around. I felt out of control and condemned. My life was slipping away. I had reached rock bottom.
What a difference a few weeks make...
In the past 26 days, since reaching rock bottom I have gone back on the "Lite N Easy" diet program and have lost an amazing 8.6Kg. I feel terrific and in complete control. I have a long way to go but feel confident of achieving my goals. I am enjoying life again and making plans for the future.
I doubt I could have turned things around so dramatically without the support of my amazing girlfriend (also on the Lite N Easy diet for the first time). My colleagues at work have also been incredibly supportive and have taken a positive and active interest in my situation.
So if you are feeling like I was 26 days ago, don't despair as things will turn around. All you need to do is make the decision to take control of your life and act on it.
