Great Week!

I kind of gave up for the month of December.  There are so many things I like around Christmas, it was just too hard ( I re started too close to the holidays!) I have a weakness for things like eggnog and Pumpkin Pie.  Luckily, we only brought home a few slices of Pie from our family lunch, so we didn't have any leftovers from our dinner.

This past week has been a great one.  One of the other girls at work has decie3d to eat healthy too, and it's so much easier when there's someone else there to support me!  We have a jar of Chocolate on top of our filing cabinet at work.  I didn't realize how much of a habit it was to wander by and grab a handful 2 or 3 times a day.  Now that we are both conciously trying not to, it's amazing how many times I head for the jar not realizing what I'm doing.  It was actually really easy not to eat any chocolate this week.  Once I realized it was habit...  it was a piece of cake!  (no pun intended there!)  I've also started buying lean cuisine meals for lunch, and discovered that I really like them.  I haven't had one I don't like so far.  And there are so many!  I'm excited to try them all.

Dinner is a little more difficult, since I also have a finicky 8 year old step daughter to feed.  If she could eat culvers chicken tenders for dinner every night, she'd be thrilled.  She also hates most vegetables.  I won't make separate food for us (since she'd expect me to make something separate for her every night if she decided she didn't like what I made!)  So, I make things we'll both eat, but are probably not as good for me.  I'll just eat a smaller portion, and more veggies.

Weekends are hard too.  It's the only time I really cook for my hubby.  He works 2nd shift, so he's never home for dinner.  Weekends I try to spoil him, and I tend to eat more when he's home.  I don't know why... it's just one of those things!  I've been trying not to, so we'll see how that goes.  He's also a die hard meat and potatoes man.  So on Saturday, we had Sweet and Spicy Pork Ribs, Mashed Potatoes and Brussel Sprouts.  Not altogether bad for me, if I keep my portions under control (which is really, really hard.  I looove these ribs!)  And on Sunday I made Beef Stew in the Crock Pot... again, not terribly bad for me ( trust me, I stuff all the veggies I can in there!) But, I have to make myself not eat too much of the yummy concoction.  What can I say.  Here in Wisconsin, we're raised to love the comfort food!

But, the best part was overcoming the chocolate jar at work.  I think that was one of my biggest downfalls.  I no longer crave it!  And, there are peanut butter cups in my kitchen...  and I haven't touched them either!!  Hah!

Slow start, I guess...

I've gotten off to a rather slow start, I've tried to change my eating habits latley, but it's been hard, things have been very hectic around here, so I end up eating more fast food than I'd like to.  I've done pretty well for the past 2 days, and I'm hoping to keep it that way!  The only thing I need to fix now, is eating breakfast.  That's one thing I haven't done well, since I don't get up early enough to allow myself time to make and eat something (even a bowl of cereal!)  5 more minutes of snuggle time with my 2nd shift working hubby is worth not eating breakfast in my book!  So, I need to get something I can grab on my way out the door and eat on my 5 minute drive to work...

The bike isn't going so well either.  I've tried to get my hubby to take it over to the local bike shop to get it repaired (we got tires on it, but now it has a terrible wobble... I don't want it to fall apart on my 4 mile ride to work!)  It's an old Schwinn (1950's I think) and has been sitting in storage for probably the last 10 years or so.... who knows what could be wrong with it!  I'd really like to be able to ride it for a while before the weather gets too cold (and it's already pretty chilly in the mornings!)  We'll just have to see how ambitious he's feeling...

That's my current project... I'd take it myself, but it won't fit in my blazer!  (besides that, it's big and unwieldy and heavy- it's not like the ones made now, where you can just pick it up and climb over boulders... nope...!!)

Starting out

Today my husband and I put tires on my old bike (from when I delivered newspapers as a teenager!) and my plan is to ride that to work and back monday thru friday.  It's just over a 4 mile ride, so I'm figuring I'll get some much needed activity in my daily routine just from that.  I also have 2 dogs at home that looove to go for walks, but I have an 8 year old step daughter who is, for lack of a better word, a lazybones!  When we get to the end of the block and go around the corner, we've gone too far and we have to go back because she's just tooo tired to go on!!  Of course, she's made it for about 2 miles, it's only on certain days she won't walk.  But, there's no telling what her attitude will be on a certain day.  I'll try to make a test ride to work at night one day this week, then one of my co-workers and i are going to ride from my house to work, then home at the end of the day.  I'm going to work on finding something to do in the wintertime, but for now, I'm going to be happy with my bike riding!
