How To Lose 0.4 Kgs Over The Weekend
Sounds nearly impossible, doesn't it?
Well it isn't. Let me tell you how...
I decided to commit myself to extensive hiking every weekend for at least 30 km (It's always easier to say than to do, but as soon as you get going...it's just beautiful:-).
Last weekend was so to say may initial hike since I started my weight loss program.
I chose to walk in Lamington National Park on the graded descent to Yerralahla (Blue Pool) on Canungra Creek.
I took only light gear and some food with me. No breaks for food, except for stretching and breath exercise. I would not eat until I reached the campsite.
From the creek the sometimes steep Middle Ridge Traverse is a faint trail that presents both aerobic and navigational challenges for experienced bushwalkers.
The climb up the Darlington Range culminates in views from Noowongbill Lookout before descending into the Coomera River and the refreshing Gwongoorool Pool.
A graded path leads up to the road just 1500 meters from Binna Burra where I chose to camp.
Well, sounds great so far…
...But tell me where did I leave my food when I finally wanted to have my deserved meal of the day?
Unbelievable.
When I arrived near Binna Burra and set up my small camp to finally relax my sore legs from a day of walking, I looked into my backpack for food….but I only found nothing.
I realized that I must have forgotten my food bag all along on the back of my car seat.
How can I? Me the I-have-to-eat-something-guy (how ironic).
I almost wanted to…but no! Tough as a man can be who is facing no food by the end of an exhausting day, I accepted my situation with the overtaking tiredness.
Surely, I could have asked somebody for food, but I said to myself "Nope, it's actually good and somehow life is helping to support me losing the initial pounds".
I fell asleep pretty easily and woke up before sunrise, of course with a growling stomach and a rather grumpy mood.
I tried not to give myself to the grumpy feeling and took immediate action.
I packed and left to start the last 24 km back to the car park.
I tried to ignore the empty stomach the best I could (singing actually helps) and drank heaps and heaps of water.
Man, was I happy to get back to my car in the early afternoon. I found the food on the back seat which was covered by a newspaper:-).
However, an interesting thing happened to me in that very moment.
I felt stronger and full of energy after my power walk which was actually more a mental test without having food.
I left the food aside without touching it.
Back home I went straight to the scale and had a moment of cheerful success…0.4 kgs were gone.
After a salad and some cooked lentils I went to sleep with a smile and the certainty that I will finally make it this time.
Well, it only seems to take a decent walking track and a backpack with no food in it to lose the initial grams:-)
