Hello!! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! The trip to Africa was great. The city was beautiful, the wedding was lovely, and the bride was gorgeous! I did manage to get one run in while I was gone, but I ate and drank SO MUCH. I weighed myself this morning and I was at 149.8. I'm sure a little of that was water weight, but I wouldn't be surprised if I gained a pound or two while I was gone.
I got up this morning and did my hill run. It felt great to get back into my exercise routine. I want to focus on getting my diet/cravings under control. I feel like I've been far too controlled by food lately--meaning that I haven't been making much of an effort to eat healthy foods. I've been eating very few fruits and vegetables and a lot of fat and processed food (and alcohol while we were at the wedding). The madness must stop!
I want to add weight training into my schedule, so I'm going to try to do a strength workout 2-3 times per week. I already run 4-5 times per week and do Pilates 1-2 times per week. If I eat a reasonable diet, I should have no problem losing a pound per week. If I did that all summer, I'd be at my goal!
That said, controlling the cravings is always easier said than done. What are your best tips for fighting off cravings? Drink water? Take a quick walk? Chew gum? How do you get through it?
Have a great day! Jen

Self talk
Self talk is great to get your through a craving. Tell yourself that it IS your choice. That the ____ will be there tomorrow if you decide that's still what you want.
Keep busy. I don't think about eating near as much when I'm busy. Go for a walk, like you said. Clean something. I know when I go to clean the bathroom, that turns into vaccuuming, and dusting, and laundry. Before I know it, the craving is forgotten.
Now, put me in front of the TV and that's IT! MUNCHIES!
What a wonderful trip! And you can't skimp on the alcohol at a wedding. :) You'll see that extra weight drop off soon. Glad you're getting back into your regular routine. I'm impressed at all you do!
For me, to avoid cravings, I need to do something that I don't associate with eating. I'm like TatumsMom - if I'm watching TV, I like to be eating. So I need to crochet, or walk, or do a puzzle, or something creative, or read a book. I suppose cleaning would work too, but I HATE to clean!! That's even harder to talk myself into than avoiding a snack. :)
Also, make sure you eat protein for breakfast - it helps regulate your cravings throughout the day. It keeps your blood sugar from going too crazy. Also, I take alpha lipoic acid, which is an antioxidant that is also said to help regulate blood sugar (and therefore cravings). I'm not sure yet if it helps, but I figure it can't hurt, since there are no known side effects.
Have a great day, and good luck fighting the cravings!
