So this weekend was a mixed bag... I was very, very active--I did my 8-mile run on Saturday and my 8-mile hike on Sunday. Great, right? But I ate SO MUCH. It's so hard for me to manage my appetite and cravings. The big challenge in leading a healthy life for me isn't and probably never will be exercise--I actually like exercise--it's the damn food. Man, do I ever love food...
My fiance and I talked this weekend about wedding dates, and I think we've pretty much settled on December 15 of this year. I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO! I'm a little worried about how the wedding will affect my eating. The eating disordered part of me (I was bulimic for a long, miserable ten years) is convinced that I should diet myself down to a size zero for the wedding. The healthy part of me knows that no one--my fiance included--wants me to look like a walking skeleton coming down the aisle. So hard to have a realistic body image in this day and age!
I can't remember if I wrote about this before, but our scale is all messed up. After I miraculously lost 3.5 pounds overnight, I did a little experiment. I weighed myself four times in a row and got numbers ranging from 140 to 150. I refuse to weigh myself until the new scale I ordered (with a body fat monitor built right in!!!) arrives.
We're leaving on Wednesday for a wedding in Africa (I have some CRAZY friends), so I'll probably be out of touch from Wednesday until Monday night. It will be good to get out of the city and have a change of scenery, but I'm a little worried that there will be a lot of eating and drinking and not so much exercising. Do you have any tips for traveling healthy?
Have a great Monday! Jen

Good job
Good job on your exercise. I did my first 8 mile run yesterday. It went well.
A wedding in Africa!! That sounds fun. Have a great time.
I just wrote a long comment, then got distracted, clicked over to another page, and lost it. Silly me.
Anyway, I was saying that the wedding in Africa sounds amazing, and what country is it in?
Water aerobics is fantastic exercise and you should try it. You wear a floaty belt, so you can't possibly sink, and you don't need to know how to swim at all. It's so FUN!!!
Also, my scale does the same thing yours does, and mine is new! Oh well. I need to test it out by weighing something I know the weight of (like a dumbell) and seeing if it records it correctly. We'll see what happens. Otherwise, just take the most flattering number it gives you. ;)
Hey there! My marathon, the Chicago Marathon is on October 7th! I love your ongoing battle with the KitKat. They are pretty tasty, but I prefer a more unadulterated smooth chocolate bar with nothing else...say a Dove or a Hershey Bar. Mmmm.
Yeah, eating and running are a delicate balance. My friend who is a personal trainer said once you start creeping up in the teens for mileage, it's a lot harder to lose weight consistently. Sigh. At least you have a lot less to lose than me.
It will be fun following each other's progress with running and the daily battle with evil (chocolate.)
Have fun in Africa. Gee, I don't think I've ever said that before. I'd like to go someday, but wow, I'm guessing that's a pretty pricy trip!!!! You should get a run in while you're there. Not many people can say they've run in African.
I LOVE the forerunner. It really helps me and I think it was worth every penny. It's so nice to not think about a route or have to measure it later....I just go and look down occasionally at my Forerunner to see my mileage, pace, running time, and distance....it's all right there!
Your scale does sound a little cooky. Wait for a new one.
December 15th sounds like a fine date. You definitely don't want to be a skeleton. That's not a healthy way to start a marriage. And while you know that, I'm sure it's hard to remember that sometimes.
