Went to Bally's yesterday & did upper body workout. My dd was happy because we ran into the "hot" trainer & he helped show us the various machines again. He reminds me of my brother, so while I admit he's cute, I just can't say "hot". Yikes! LOL We're both sore & achy from the workout. I went to Curves & did a light workout. My arms are still somewhat achy but my backache has eased a lot. I really love the fact that I can adjust my Curves workout intensity to match my needs.
Going back to Bally's tomorrow to work on lower body again. Apparently we're going to have our original trainer back, too. He says we owe him an intense workout. Oh, if that's the case, I think I need to buy some Calgon for afterwards! LOL
My weight is up a pound. I'm eating fairly well (on plan) so I'm hoping it's muscle gain & that I'm still losing the fat! I won't freak unless it continues for another week or so. I am not going back up!
I did okay on last week's goals. Only missed my water quota on Sunday, which was a bad day all the way around. Too much personal drama. Was lazy/tired & didn't complete my ab workouts. Left it too late each evening & talked myself out of it a couple of times too many. I didn't lose any weight either. Looking back, I realized I was under calories every day. Not smart to starve. Oh well, live & learn and try not to repeat stupid mistakes, right?
Goals for this week:
Drink 90 oz. water daily
Take my vitamins & medication daily
Walk 25 miles minimum this week
Go to gym, minimum 5 times
Do 1 extra arm exercise set; 1x this week
Do 10k training 4 days this week
Lose 2 pounds this week!
Think those are fairly reasonable. I took off the extra ab work because when I go to Bally's, I do ab work there. I decided to restart the 10k training because I really want to run! I messed up by training with my dh & only training when he was in the mood - oh and taking the holidays completely off , but hey who's story is this? ;-) shhhh... Anyway, I'm doing it on my pace & my way this time. Anybody wants to come along they can, but I'm not arranging my training around them.
Have you set goals for the week? Are you revved up? Ready to lose?! I am! I don't think I can, I KNOW I can. You can, too!
I hope everybody has a great weekend! I'm hoping to get some work done around the house & to get a chance to hang out with some friends. Could use a play day.
Went to my old Curves today -had to transfer when I moved. Saw several ladies I hadn't seen in awhile. Made me feel good because they were all complimenting me on my weight loss so far. I can't see it, but they can! I was a little embarrassed by all the attention but it also felt really great, too!
Another sloth day! UGH! I'm getting annoyed with myself. I stalled & stalled earlier so that when I finally made it to Curves, I only had time to do a half workout before my teen called needing a ride home from her night class. I"m going to make myself walk extra tonight to make up for that. I just can't afford to slide back into bad habits, ya know?
I'm still stressing over personal relationships & it's causing ripples in everything else I do (or don't do). Don't worry, I'm not giving up, I'm just getting annoyed with myself. LOL
Hope your week is going better? Who's ready for the weekend?!
Last couple of days I've been sad & moody and it's making me so darn tired. It's not weight loss related, just people issues, I guess. Anyway, I wasn't in the mood to be around a lot of people or really to do much of anything. I skipped Bally's but I did drag my sorry butt off to Curves this evening when I was pretty sure it would be slow.
There was a time when I would have just crawled back into bed & stayed there all day/night until the sadness went away or some emergency would force me to crawl out. I don't want to be that person anymore, so I forced myself to move around. Went to the gym, called a friend, read a book, read blogs, etc... I'm going walking in a few minutes. It's peaceful here at night, so that'll be good.
I'm happy because I made all my goals for last week! I even did extra walking! Think I'm going to try to keep track of how many miles I walk each month. I've seen a blog where she is recording her milage like a trip. That's cool.
This week:
Drink 90 oz. of water daily
Take my vitamins daily
Walk a minimum of 3 miles daily
Go to the gym, 5 times this week.
Do 1 extra set of arm exercises
Do some type of ab workout, minimum of 4 days
Lose 2 pounds this week!
Not really anything new or major, I just like keeping myself accountable. I went to Curves today & will go to Bally's tomorrow. I think changing it up & doing the different gyms & workouts on alternate days helped ease my stiffness last week. We'll see how it works this week.
Hope you're having a great start to the week! Best wishes!
I am so sleepy today. I have wasted most of my day sleeping. I don't have a clue why. I went to Bally's yesterday & had a good workout. I was red-faced & sweating most of the time! Luckily, I wasn't really sore & achy like on Monday & Tuesday. Also, walked 6 miles with my teenager. She barely whined the whole time! lol
I'm going to take a shower, go grocery shopping for dinner, & try to get some extra walking in today. Need to make up for being a sleepy sloth!
I had my official weigh-in at Curves, yesterday. I hadn't weighed-in since October because I basically took November & December off to deal with moving, health issues, & the holidays.
I'm down 11 pounds since October 19th. While I'm thrilled to be back on the losing end (ha! the only time I want to lose at anything!), I'm also a bit disappointed in myself for not trying a little harder the last 2 months. Ah well, can't change yesterday, just work harder today. At least I didn't gain any weight over the holidays, right? I know when I was at the gym, there were 2 women complaining of how they gained about 10 pounds over the holidays. They were disappointed to be working off 10 pounds they had already lost once before, so I can't really complain ... much!
Okay, off to meet dh for lunch with some of his co-workers. I don't really want to eat out, but it's about the only adult time we get with 5 munchkins around. Then it's off to Bally's for another go with the trainer. Wish me luck!
I am so sore & achy today. Went back to Bally's yesterday. The manager gave us a different trainer today. He said he wanted us to work with various training staff. Once we've worked with several, we could pick who we really liked, felt comfortable with, & felt motivated by. That makes sense, rather than just taking the 1st trainer we met.
We did 30 minutes on the bike, 10 minutes on the treadmill, & 5 on the stair stepper. Our trainer wanted us to jog on the treadmill. I made it about 90 seconds before announcing I was going to walk. So, instead of jogging at 4mph, I walked at 3.7mph. Next time, I am going to do walk/jog intervals. That was working for me last September/October when we (dh & I) started the 5k program. Sadly, I took November & December off, so back to square 1 with the jogging.
I hate the stair stepper! I am so out of shape! I had to keep pausing & continuing. I'd wait 30 seconds & do it for another minute, then wait, etc... I didn't step the entire 5 minutes because I was so exhausted already, but I didn't completely quit either. The trainer kept the timer going, so I probably made it 2 1/2 or 3 minutes total? My daughter, however, did the whole 5 minutes. Now she was showing me up! When we were on the treadmill, she refused to even attempt running & had the treadmill set at a lower pace than mine. Then on the stair stepper, she was acting like it was no big deal. *sighs* I informed the trainer that if he wants me on the stair stepper, he needs to do it before the treadmill next time. If I'm not already worn-out, I know I can do it.
Then we worked on our upper body. Because we're newbies, the trainer decided to take it easy on us. Instead of 3 reps of 10, he had us doing 1 rep of 15. He just really wanted to show us the movements & I think get an idea of our fitness levels. He said we'd do about 15 minutes of upper body work, but it actually ended up being 30. I am proud to say that I did everything & it only took him a couple of exercises before he was telling my daughter that she needs to be more like me. LOL! He also kept setting my weights higher. I admit to being a bit competitive. There was one exercise where my daughter whined the whole time & didn't even want to finish doing 10 of them. I did 30 in 1 rep with 10 more pounds of weights! That made the trainer laugh, my daughter grumble about how I'm making her look bad, & restored my spirits after doing so badly on the stair stepper.
I liked this trainer better than the 1st one. The 1st guy was good, but he also talked a lot to everybody around us. This guy was more focused on us. He said hello to everbody, but didn't engage in any lengthy conversations with anybody else. I felt like we had his complete attention. My daughter declared him to be "hot". Judging from the looks he was receiving from some of the other ladies, they agreed. When she whispered that to me, I about choked. See, I agree he's handsome but, he looks a LOT like my brother. Facial features, hair style, speech pattern, and the same quirky looks my brother would give me if he thought something was funny or somebody was being dramatic. Sorry, but I just can't find somebody who looks like my brother 'hot", ya know?? He's just young enough that he could have been my brother's son, so it wasn't an age thing. He just looked like him. Even my daughter laughed & said she could see it. I kept expecting him to sound like my brother, too. It was weird & funny.
Today, we're skipping Bally's. We're both achy & sore. I am planning on going to Curves, though. At Curves, I have more control over how hard I work out. It's also lower impact, regardless of how hard I work out. I'm hoping that by doing a lighter workout today, It'll help ease some of the soreness & stiffness. I love my Curves!
I hope ya'll are having a great Wednesday! Keep up the good fight!
Hi everybody! Hope you had a great weekend & a decent Monday, too!
My 18 yr old daughter & I signed up for Discovery Health's National Body Challenge online. She's constantly whining about how fat her butt & thighs are and how she wants to lose weight. The girl is NOT fat!! (5'8" & 130-135 lbs.) She's just untoned. I think I've finally convinced her that she's not overweight, she just needs to shape up. Either way, when I mentioned that DH'sNBC offered a free 8-week pass to Bally's Fitness, she was jumping to sign-up. We both already belong to Curves, but she refuses to go while I go 3x a week minimum. She wants to go to a 'real' gym where there are guys & girls working out. I figured the 8-week pass would give us a good test run & see if she'll actually stick to working out for once.
Yesterday, we had our first work-out with a trainer. He started us for 30 minutes on the treadmill. No sweat. I already walk nightly. My daugher, of course, was whining about 10 minutes into the walk -even though she walks with me most nights. Then he put us on several different machines to work out our lower body. UGH!!!! My daughter provided comedic relief for anybody in the vacinity of the gym with her moaning, groaning, & antics. I really don't care for much attention while I'm working out, so I was unprettily red-faced the entire time & afraid to look up past the trainer's knees to see who was laughing/grinning. Trust me, whenever I did sneak a peak, somebody was watching her with a big ole smile. I know she's pretty, but I don't think it was her beauty that made them all grin. I did feel a little bad for my daughter. Everytime you clang the weights or do not follow through the move properly, the trainer would restart the count. On every single machine, she'd have to do extra because she was being dramatic! I only had to restart twice & both times I knew it was coming & grimaced when the weights clanked.
I managed to complete all the exercises except for the last 2. They were both abdominal exercises. The one was on a machine that has you laying on your back with your legs up & bent (chair position if you were vertical instead of horizontal). Apparently the idea is to do a complete sit up while holding on. Hey look! I'm a pretzel! I'm a little short & the machine was uncomfortable for me. We actually did 40 of those, but I'd have never made it without the trainer helping lift us. The last exercise had us sitting on a hump. The trainer would toss one of those large exercise balls to us, we'd bend over backwards, touch the ground with the ball, return to upright position & toss the ball back. My daughter gave up after 5. I made it through 8 of them before my daughter said something that cracked me up. I lost my momentum & couldn't get it back. I struggled through the next 2, having to recount one of them before the trainer said we were through.
Now, comes the best/worse part, depending on your point of view. The trainer complimented me several times for getting through the various machines & even told my daughter once that 'she's been served' because after she made so much noise about how hard one of the exercises was, I just did it. It was hard, but not THAT hard. After our workout, we're in his office talking about the next session & of course, how we'd benefit from joining the gym officially. The manager came in to introduce himself & give a little talk about the gym & being committed,etc... He asked for details about our workout, what machines & how we did. The trainer told him how I'd impressed him & outshown my daughter on every single exercise. He also said something like 'Momma really brought it today, she outworked & outshined the daughter, and look at how great the daughter looks." He was being complimentary & was honestly shocked & amazed how this short, overweight momma could do so much more than my daughter who looks fitter, but really isn't. So on one hand, it's a compliment. I did well & impressed the trainer. On the other hand, even after a year of working on losing & getting in better shape, I really still look & feel so very OUT of shape! People look at my thin daughter & assume she's in great shape but they look at me & assume I can't do squat. I hate that. It does motivate me to keep losing & working on my fitness level.
Anyway, we're off to the gym again today. The manager said he wanted us to come in and do a cardio workout today. He understands we'll be sore (we are!!!) but so many people give up after the first day, that he tries hard to get you back in the door again. I hope we make it the 8 weeks. I'm not leaving Curves behind because I wouldn't be in the shape I am already (improving!) without them. I just want to see what the extra workouts & attention from a trainer can do for me and my daughter. I want her to feel healthy, too.
I'll keep you posted! Have a great Tuesday & I'll be back later with my weekly goals & updates.
