Before After

Well here I go...

I have been on Phentermine before...a few years ago.  I lost about 40 lbs...and kept it off pretty well till I became pregnant with my son.  I am 32 almost 33 and I tell you there is a huge difference between having a baby at 24 and having one at almost 32!

For starters....I am past the ol' 30 year mark...and we all know that your metabolism really starts slowing at that age.  I wasn't by any means skinny but I was retaining my weight pretty well when I became pregnant in the fall of 2005,  I started having problems after my first trimester and awoke to labor pains at week 19! When I was put on bed-rest  at week 20 I had only gained about 12 lbs....I had done considerable well and was proud of that fact...well....the bed rest didn't help and my metabolism plummeted.   By the time I delivered,(June 8,2006) 6 weeks early, emergency  cesarian...I had  gained up to 233!  I was so embarrassed to have to repeat my weight for the nurses....

After arriving home and still not able to do much, I was about 215.   I wasn't released to exercise or even get out by myself.  I was swollen and still looked like I was about 3 to 4 months pregnant!!

After being released to do light exercise I began to walk.  I walked anywhere from 1-2 hours a day....By the end of the year
I had made it down to 198!...
I had decided to join a gym....Surely this would encourage that weight to come off!
Well, I couldn't have been more wrong.  I was to be in a wedding at the end of March and wanted to lose some weight...I thought for sure that I could, if I worked hard, lose 10-15 lbs in 3  months....yah...right!!!
I was getting up at 3:30 am and driving 20 mins one way to a 24 hour gym....(this was the only time I could go seeing as my husband worked and I didn't have someone to watch the children)  I was consulting the trainer about what to eat...lifting weights for an hour to hour and 1/2 and then doing about 30 min on the treadmill.....I just knew the weight was going to come off.
How depressed do you think I was when I first stepped on that scale after a month and my weight had gone up to 205!  The trainer said...Oh...just give it another month or so and THROW AWAY THAT SCALE!!!  I understood that muscle weighs more that fat and that I would probably gain a little at first...so I gave it another month...and then another month....By the end of the 3rd month...I weighed 215!!! I was so upset!!!  I quit the gym...I felt like such a loser!  I don't like to be considered a quitter but hey....it just wasn't working for me!!! And I was starving all them time....I had gone from severely restricting myself to feeding my body on a regular basis and had in the process gained 15 lbs....and by April I was up to 220!

That's when I hit bottom and called a doctor that I heard prescribed diet pills.  I spoke to his nurse and she was so NICE!  She suggested that I go to by OB/GYN.  She said that he would know my body and what it had been through and that he would more than likely prescribe me Phentermine/Adipex...Like I said...I had been on it before and knew that it worked...so I went...
He explained to me that the problem that I was having was that I went from having no appetite and eating next to nothing to working out and starving and eating regularly..  My body's metabolism wasn't up to where it needed to be to burn off the calories that I was taking in.  He said that I would have had to be severely strict and it would have resulted in me taking an extremely unhealthy path to disaster.

So now I am hopefull ....I have been on the medication for almost a week and have lost 7 lbs....granted I know that at least half of it is water weight...but let's face it water weight can make you look bigger...your face puffy and your close feel tight!...so I'm happy with the results so far.

Wish me luck!!

Punky...I so know where you are coming from. I have never been what I consider skinny. But when I had 2 children in 14 months, my body really went down hill. I topped out at 239. I was having problems with headaches etc. to make a long story short, after many tests, my body was not shutting off to allow me to rest. The dr although an ass, was the first dr that was willing to understand that i was large and needed help. I have been on Phentermine, this is my 2nd month. I have lost 18 lbs by drs scale (20 bythe one i use) that was my first months loss...I just started on the 2nd month. It is so good to find others that go through the same things with you. I am here if you ever need an ear.

Hello

Punkynn,

I just started phentermine today and I am happy to have the support of a very good doctor through a Get Fit program she does for her patients in her time outside of office hours.

7 pounds in a week is great!  Congrats.

Jen

Right on

Good for you - congrats on the 7 lbs gone in one week.  Keep up the good work.  What a bummer about gaining while working hard at the gym, etc.

Hugs and hang in there - have a great weekend!
