Getting Started
I'm Lauren, and I'm a 21-year-old college student. When I was younger I could (and did) eat whatever I wanted, so I never really learned the discipline of healthy eating. Now, I'm 5'5" and weigh 160 lbs. I know I'm not at my healthiest weight, and I'm pretty hard on myself about it sometimes. I live off campus with some awesome housemates who will be supportive as I try to eat right and get some exercise, but because we're busy girls on a budget, sometimes popcorn for dinner seems so cheap and easy. I'm not the type to do well when things don't pay off for a while, and I'm scared I'll lose my motivation when things get tough. I'm here to try to make a few connections and give and get support.

Welcome!
Hello Lauren! Welcome!
You will find many friends and supporters on this site who can relate to your journey at every stage. It is great that you have supportive housemates who will cheer you on.
Along the way you will find some replacements for those popcorn dinners that will give you that extra energy for a short workout (and then a longer one!!). Before long you will be well on your way to goal. = )

Welcome!
Welcome to EP, Lauren! You'll find alot of great people and great support here at EP. People are on varied programs for nutrition (from Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig to their own plan) and exercise. I totally understand the popcorn statement as one of my college roommates ate popcorn for dinner every night. Glad to hear you have supportive housemates.
Best regards!

hello and welcome.
hey, welcome to EP.
seriously, i was almost exactly at your stats when i started (i was about 10lbs heavier), now i am about to start training for a marathon.
you can do this, and this website will help.
the people here are incredible and sweet and truly want to see you succeed.
there is a lot of diet-wisdom floating around this place, and everyone is willing to share!
cheap and healthy tips:
-try to find a local farmers market for fresh fruit and vegetables (they are much easier on the pocketbook than most grocery stores!).
-i also am big on pasta and rice- cheap and easy to cook!
-switch your daily starbucks for coffee at home, lower in calories and cents to the mug.
good luck and let me know if you have any questions...
