Before After

A quick update from me

I'm delighted to report that I've been maintaining happily at 9st 3 for some time now. I even gave up on counting points 5 weeks ago and just eat healthily and exercise. I've never felt so relaxed and in control regarding my weight and it's really the best feeling.

Exercisewise things are great to. I broke up with my gym but I'm still running lots. I did a 5 mile race on Sunday and finished in 40 minutes 35 seconds. It was only a small race with about 120 people but I came 10th out of the women! I was so pleased. I'm now training hard getting ready for my next half marathon in September.

I'm very excited about tomorrow as I'm off to London to meet a group of lovely ladies from NCU for drinks and dinner. It'll be great to put some faces to the people who have helped me so much to reach my goal.

A New Challenge

Everyone on my team at work has decided to enter the Half I'm running in September. The banter has started already.

We have:-

Ian - Runs lots, should finish in under 1hr 30
Nick - Runs often, has completed a half before in around 2hrs
Jen - Active lifestyle, can run about 4 miles currently
Alison - Newbie runner, following a walk run schedule currently
Matt - Very newbie runner, started this week
Rich - Very unfit, doesn't run at all, smoker
Ben - Very unfit, doesn't run at all

There's no beating Ian but it is very important that I come second. I've added an extra run a week. I can do the distance so now it's all about the speed.

My weekly running schedule is thus:-

Monday - 3.5 mile tempo run
Tuesday - 6 miles at moderate pace
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 6 miles of intervals
Friday - rest
Saturday - 10-13 mile long slow run
Sunday - rest

It's certainly added a new motivation to my running. I think Nick is my main competition. I may push him down the stairs

Weightwise, all is good. 9st 3lbs this morning and after going way over points most days!

Evening Fat Fighters!

I've just returned from a fantastic run. Every now and then you have a run where you just find the perfect pace and your legs move effortlessly and you can feel your muscles working and you just want to push them harder and you end it feeling fantastic. I had such a run this evening and I feel on top of the world. I just thought I'd share

I did it!

Bath Half today and the months of hard work and training have paid off as I managed it in 1hr 57mins 35secs according to my garmin. The chip times aren't available yet but it should be almost the same. I'm very pleased to finish in under 2 hours. Not bad for a 1st attempt.

The race itself went very smoothly. I quickly settled into a comfortable pace which I maintained throughout the race. I discovered that overtaking people who look fitter than you is very very fun. They may stride away at the start but watch out for the tortoise my friend.

About 5 miles in a noticed on the back of a vest in front of me it said 'Pain is temporary, Pride is forever'. This became my mantra for the next few miles chanting in my head really helped me keep an even pace. Except it somehow got mixed up in my head and I realised that for about a mile I was saying 'Pride is temporary, Pain is forever' which isn't quite the same. Miles 10 and 11 were the most difficult. It was a really sunny day and I was hot and thirsty and tired. I started a new more simple mantra around this point which was 'running, running, just keep running'. It's a bit Finding Nemo. The crowd support for the last couple of miles was great and there was no way I was slowing down.

All in all a very successful day and I can't wait until my next race!

2 day to go!

Got a nice little surprise on the scales this morning and am now a couple of lbs under goal .

This Sunday is race day. I signed up about 6 months ago in a minute of madness and it's almost here already! Where does the time go. I'm as ready as I'm going to be. I've tapered my training this week and today and tomorrow I'm doing a bit of carb loading making sure I give myself the best shot at a good time. I'm going to drive my other half mad. 'Honey I can't go to the shop to buy milk as I'm conserving glycogen. Will you make me some tea?'

Wish me luck!

It's been a while

I haven't written my blog in a while but fear not, I have not fallen onto the sofa with a vat of ice cream. I've just been a little busy. Today I weighed in at 9st 5.5lbs so pretty much back at goal. I'm finding the dieting easy at the moment. I'm in a good routine with my diet and exercise and ticking along nicely.

My half marathon is in 3 weeks! I am officially terrified. Last Saturday I ran 12.76 miles in 2 hours and 2 minutes. I know that I can do the distance but the fear is still there. I'm worried about getting my pace wrong and running out of steam. There are going to be lots of friends coming along to watch and I don't want to look stupid! I've done two 6 mile runs this week and I'm doing 13 again tomorrow. The more I prepare the calmer I feel.

Brrrrrrrr! I've had enough of the cold

I only managed to lose 1 of my christmas lbs this week. It would have been more but I accidently got drunk and went way over my points on Thursday.

My running has been seriously effected by the freezing weather. The ground is icy and I'm too scared to run on it. This week I've done all my running on the treadmill. It's got to be better than not going at all right? I can just about put up with the boredom of treadmill running if I stick on a podcast and turn off my mind. I did 19 miles this week. A 6 mile run, a 4 mile run and a 9 mile run. I'm increasing by a mile a week at the moment. Next week I'm planning a 3 mile, two 4 miles and a 9 mile.

Oops!

They say that pride comes before a fall. I gained 3.5lbs in the last 2 weeks. I haven't been eating loads (apart from on new year's eve where I was a digusting pig) but I have been drinking LOTS. It's a gain that I thoroughly deserve and I can't complain about it at all. I'm not too worried about it though. I'll get a good chunk of it gone this week and the rest will soon follow.

Easy Peasy

I haven't pointed since 27th November and my weight has stayed exactly the same. If it weren't for the partys I think I'd even have lost a little. I'm not so niave as to believe that it will always be this easy. I'll get used to having the little extras and gradually the amount I eat will creep up and up until the weight starts to go back on. At least that is what would happen if I allowed it to, which I won't. The minute my weight goes up it's back to pointing.

As the year draws to an end I've started thinking about what I've achieved and what I want to achieve next year. This year has been all about losing the fat and I've done it. I'm happily sat around the middle of my healthy weight range. Next year is about getting very fit and changing my body from something I'm happy with to something to be seriously proud of! I want to run 3 half marathons and clock up at least 500 miles. I think if I switch my focus and motivation from losing weight to running then I'll do it.

Achieved my new goal :)

Lost 1.5lbs making me 9st 5 which is the new goal I set myself.  As my shopping trip isn't until next Friday I'm just going to have a mini celebration today. I'm going to go out for dinner tonight and I'm going to drink champagne.

So my new plan is:-

- Lose a few more lbs, say to about 9st 2, so I have a little buffer zone

- Then stop counting points and just stick to my usual healthy meals

- Weigh in on Fridays without fail

- If I get to 9st 5 again then start counting points again until I get to 9st 2 again.

I'm expecting my weight might fluctate by a few lbs until I get used to it but I'm looking forward to the challenge of maintaining.

Only 3.5 months until my half marathon. The training is going ok but a couple of my long runs have been cut short due to crappy weather. Planning to brave the cold and do a 10 miler tomorrow.
