Before After

the best laid plans of mice and men

In the words of Steinbeck, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray."  Let me start with a little bit of humor.  The following is a real picture I took last weekend and it sets the tone perfectly:

I'm getting ahead of myself though.  As a reminder, this past weekend I redeemed a free flight to/cheapo return from (unfortunately not at all direct) Colorado so I could go visit E.  Right.  So, E had made a bunch of fun plans for us, including a long hike and wandering around town.  However, when I got to CO, I arrived to the land of cold temperatures and copious amounts of snow!  Murphy's Law strikes again.  Let's just say that since this is still supposedly a blog about healthy habits, there was absolutely too little movement all weekend.  Luckily, it was still an incredibly fun time all around.

When I arrived in CO it was about 50 degrees.  We didn't do too much that day other than go out to eat at a Pho shop (mmm soup) and later, had a fish taco each.  Food will be the central recurring theme in this post, because we didn't do a lot else.  Luckily, the portions were kept in check.  The following day the temperature dropped down to 21.  Yes.  Cold.  Luckily I had my favorite winter peacoat and scarf with me, but it was still frigid.  We ended up watching some a Bollywood film, chatting a bunch, and I even saw his parents wedding video.  Super cute.  We also ate out at a Japanese noodle shop for lunch and an awesome Lebanese place for dinner (shared a combination plate with hummus, babbaganoush (sp?), gyro meat, tabbouli, pita bread, and falafel).  We got a little walking in, stumbling in and out of cute shops in the downtown/old town which was very quaint and endearing (besides the temperature).  Can you tell I'm not the biggest fan of cold?  Then it was time for me to return home!

And here I am back in the sunny, warm desert-like climate that is the American Southwest.  We both decided we want to see each other again, but due to travel schedules, it's not going to happen for a minimun of several weeks.  I'm trying to get him to get Skype in the meantime.  I'm heading up to San Fran this weekend for my race, finally!  I missed my weekend run this past weekend due to being in CO, but on Monday I ran 3 miles.  I'm pretty much tapering at this point.  I'm super excited to meet up with Shelley and have a great time this weekend at the Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon!

I want to leave you all with a smile since I've been smiling ever since I got back.  Here is a clip from the Bollywood film we watched :-)

So glad you had a good time.

Can't wait to hear about you &  Shelley meeting up!

Ahhh...

Love it!!!  I LOVE happy stories, and this one qualifies.

Glad you got to go... maybe the snow was a blessing in disguise as it slowed down the pace of the weekend.

I'll be thinking about you this weekend and wishing you fun and success with your run!

im so happy that you had a good time, and that is great that you will see each other again.

i hate the cold, too...

ooh

Sounds like a wonderful (and delicious) weekend!

hi

Hi N! :) Oh, its ok. I just felt so dumb standing all alone in the middle of Union Square all by myself but yet, surrounded by 20,000 people. I knew I would never find you, but I was mad at myself for not being more proactive about us being able to meet. I don't know why I waited until the last minute. I mean, I knew I was going to be going straight from the airport to the expo and pretty much straight to bed after that, so I just should have planned better. Its ok, though. Like I said, I was also upset with a friend of mine who basically deserted me from a nightclub in Vegas. It was supposed to be a girls getaway to hang out and talk, not party til 4am and flirt. Then my other friend was a total bitch to me. I mean total bitch. I've decided I'm too old for this crap. If I never have another girls trip again it would be fine by me. These friends of mine clearly did not come out to visit me. Anyway, sorry for rambling! (I feel safer writing it here than on my own blog, if you know what I mean, and I can't say anything on Facebook!)

Anyway, like you, I would have just broken away from you or anyone else I was supposed to run with because I'm a loner at heart and I can only keep my own pace. It was me, my iPod and the open road, too! lol No, I don't know the song Fireflies...who is it by? I'll look it up. wasn't that view amazing?? What bothered me the most was all the orange peels on the road in that gorgeous neighborhood!!! First of all, that was a really bad street (too narrow) to put the oranges on! But when we got to the top of the hill and saw the ocean, yea, that was the best part of the race. I was dragging for the first 6 miles, but once we got to the top of the hill underneath the golden gate bridge, the rest of the race was awesome for me!

Sorry this is so long....but no, I have not been able to find any results, either, and my patience is also wearing thin on the subject!! lol I have found FULL marathon results, but no half...and the weird thing is that I was signed up to run the full, so you would think I'd be able to find my results. Worst results handling situation ever. Its Nike, for Gods sake....why can't they get it together?

Thanks for letting me vent! ;) I feel soooo much better now! lol And yes, we will meet up in SF when you're here for work, ok?

hi

One more thing: my husband has been helping me find results and he said that he is reading a lot of complaints about the results not being posted and that now that the full has been posted, they are probably working on the half.....a lot more people ran the half than the full, so it takes longer.....but still. Its Nike! If I find the results, I'll let you know!
