A new challenge for me!

I have been thinking about this all day and now I need to write it down so that I can see it and review it often.

Backstory:  In high school I couldn't run one lap of the track when they made us run the 1 mile for the Presidential Fitness testing.

When I go back for the reunion this summer, I am going to run the dreaded track!!!  Not only am I going to run one mile, I'll run two!!

How cool would it be to conquer my old nemesis?

I'm Back!!

Oh what a month it has been.  I have been without reliable internet for over a month and it has been frustrating, to say the least.

To catch up.  I'm still on track.  The weight loss is going slow but steady.  I still have 2 1/2 months until my 20th high school reunion.   (Not that I am ashamed of my age, but it is only my 18th reunion. We are combining with the 86 and 87 classes)  I weighed 160 in 9th grade and around 170 when I was in college.  I am getting closer and closer to my high school weight.  Only 12 pounds or so to go, but wouldn't it be nice to be closer to 160 than 170.  No matter what,  I am content with what I have done so far.

On  the exercise front, I can't believe how well it has been going.  I still go to Curves about 4 times a week, but I am still on the couch to 5K podcast program.  I am almost done with WEEK SIX!!!  I could not run a mile in high school and I was on the basketball team.  Whenever it feels hard and I am tempted to quit, I just remember that I am doing great.  I am in better shape than when I was a teenager.  My DDs are still doing the program too.  I am so proud of them.

Some new foods that I am loving right now:

Oscar Meyer 98% fat free hot dogs.  I eat them on two slices of Sara Lee Delightful bread and it is only 3pts.  Add some carrot sticks and it is a great lunch.

Tyson Teriyaki Chicken Breasts from Costco.  3pts each.  I eat them with a cup of rice and veggies for a 7pts.

Blue Diamond Honey Roasted Almonds.  3pts for an ounce.  They taste like candy but have the benefits of almonds.  (I have to hide them from the 2 yo DD because she likes them too!)

I think it may be time for a new photo.  I hope that there will be a difference.  (I can't wear the pants that are in my pictures!!!!  Yeah!!!)

Have a great day everyone!  I have to go read everyone's blogs and catch up.

I got my 10% last night!

So last night was kind of fun at the WW meeting.  My aunt that has been doing this with me and I both got our 10% awards.  Boy, it felt good to achieve my first goal.  I think that this should help give me the strength to endure the four Easter baskets full of goodies that will be at the house on Sunday.  Easter candy is my favorite and I will need all the strength I can get.  I survived the onslaught of relatives and kept pretty good.  We did go down on the desert and have a hot dog roast with chips and s'mores.  I didn't want to be "on a diet" in front of everyone so I just ate what everyone else was having.  My weight did go up .2 pounds at weigh-in that week but,  this week it went down 2.4.   I hope that it is a sign of things to come.  That I can eat what everyone else does and still control it to  some degree.

Another big achievement this week:  I started WEEK THREE of the Couch to 5K podcast running program.  There were two three minute runs this week.  While running, I just thought of the times in school where they make you run a mile.  I concentrated on that through the running portion and before I knew it I was done.  I am sure that I can move up to the five minute runs next week without any problems.  What a great feeling that was.  The manager at Curves took my measurements yesterday and kept going on and on about how good and dedicated I have been since I joined.  This is pretty incredible for me.  If I can do it ANYONE can and that is the truth.

We are on Spring Break and the girls and I are heading to the bowling alley for some fun.  Happy Easter Everyone!

What I Got Our of Last Night's Meeting

Last night's meeting was pretty good.  We talked about portion sizes and the way society has skewered our concepts of what is appropriate for a portion.  I totally agreed with everything that was said.  My mom remembers when a Coke was 6 oz and considered a treat.  Now the large drink at Wendy's is 44 ounces. Lucky for me that I refuse to drink my calories unless it is milk.

Then we got talking about how to reduce the temptation that a big portion creates.  One woman put into words the way I feel about the subject when she said, "it is easier for me to avoid temptation than to resist it."   I've got to say that is a great way to put it.  Sometimes something just hits home right.

No school today so we had a three extra girls in the house last night.  I even made french toast for them for breakfast. Although I like it now, I had to remember the time when I was a kid hated French Toast.  I used to think it looked like "snot toast".  (Sorry for the visual there, but that is why I couldn't eat it as a kid.)  So anyway, I made my fruit smoothie for breakfast and am feeling great.

I am preparing for an onslaught of guests.  Two of my 16yo daughter's friends will be here tomorrow from Colorado for a couple of days AND my BIL and two nephews are coming Sunday for a couple of days too!  I have no idea where everyone is going to sleep since we are in a 2 bedroom 1 bath house until the move to HI.  Oh well, it doesn't bother anyone else so I guess I won't let it bother me.   Think I'll have to drop by Costco for a load of food.  Hope they like low-point foods!

Have a great Friday everyone!

Finally!!!

It has been a hard 3 weeks of little tiny losses.  I think something is working though.  Down 2.2 tonight!!!!!!

YEAH!!!

Gotta make it a quick one.  The kids are screaming for dinner.  Tacos tonight.

BTW, I love that we have more cover models on the home page.  That is so cool!

Week One Done!!!!!!

Yeah!!!

I made it through the first week of the Couch to 5K podcast running program.  As a real non-runner, this feels like a big accomplishment.  We start on week 2 on Thursday.  My body is not thanking me yet.  I was tired when I went to sleep last night.  My brain is not being my friend either.  It keeps telling me that I can't do this, that I am not a "runner".  Probably the best thing for me is that the girls are doing it with me.  I can't let them down.  The 12yo is starting to say that she is going to try out for seventh-grade track team next week.  TRACK TEAM!!!!  That would be so awesome.

Weigh-in tomorrow.  Will it be up because of muscle gain or will it be down due to calories burned?  It is always a mystery.  I have upped my Curves workout so that I am sweating hard by the end and I do that 4-5 days a week.  Now that I've done the running thing in addition 3 times this week, it should be interesting to see if there is a change at the scales.  I'd swear my clothes feel different and my aunt says my face is getting thinner.  Let's hope the scale finally smiles down on me again.

The sun just came out here and the 2yo and I are off to Wally World to buy some food for the week. ( Note to self:  I must remember that I make my choices at the grocery store.  So more fruits and veggies and less processed junk!)

Have a great day!

Health Care Account Bill before the House

There is a new bill in Congress that everyone at EP should get behind.  It is called "Personal Health Investment Today Act" and it would let Americans with Health Savings Accounts use up to $1,000 of pretax income to pay for exercise programs, gym memberships, fitness equipment, and sports-league fees for kids and adults.  That means we could save 30% on our family's exercise-related costs!!!!!!

This bill has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and means for hearings.  I signed a petition at www.fitnessmagazine.com/petition to urge the committee chairman to move this bill forward.  It only takes less than a minute to sign.

It would be such a great thing to be able to use our Health Care Accounts for our work-out fees.  I think it would be a great benefit to a lot of people in our country.  Hope you will sign this petition and spread the word!!!

Day two completed!

Only one more day left to the running program this week.  Last night both of my older daughters went with me.  It was pretty fun.  Of course the 12yo thought that we weren't running fast enough.  I told her to slap the 2yo and the 7yo on her back and try running it.  That is less then the amount of weight difference between us.

Of course, now they both want to do the Couch to 5K program with me.  That should be pretty cool if we can accomplish this together.   I am trying decide whether or not to tell their dad.  (He is a true athlete.  His sports tend to be ones that we are not involved in.  He is a California-born surfer boy.  He is really good at it.  It was his way of life for 31 years before we were married.  Definitely not some sort of kook.)

I don't know if any of you have seen that commercial where the blond gets out of her SUV and the surfers all stop and stare, then her three daughters get out too.  That is one of my motivators for losing weight.  My DH has promised to teach us all.  However, the one problem is that you have to be lean to surf or you sink your surfboard.  Only 3 more months before we leave for Hawaii.  That is more than the 9 weeks needed for the Couch to 5K program.

I guess I should stop rambling and get to work.  Have a great day all!

So many posts...

so little time to read them all.  Wow!  I just spent the morning checking out every blog I could find.  I feel so motivated right now.  Today is day 2 of Couch to 5K.  After Tuesday's walk/jog it will be time to amp it up to Week 2!!  I just may take all 4 girls to the high school track with me and let them run around and have fun.  Maybe we'll take a jump rope and play some jumping games.

By the way, I was talking to my cousin (one of my best friends) and told him that I am going to buy my girls a baseball glove.  He said they were a little "retarded" in their abilities to play catch.  I admit that this is true, but they can dance the pants off a lot of other kids too!  So I guess I'll head to the stores and find a good couple of gloves so we can play catch everyday until they learn.

Isn't it amazing how much the world has changed?  I learned all the "kid" sports from my friends and their brothers.  I just took it for granted that my kids knew how to play softball, tennis, badminton, etc.  They don't!!!  It blows my mind.  I am seriously going to change this.

It is another beautiful day here, so I am off to go outdoors and enjoy it.  Hope everyone is feeling great!

Until next time..
Tina

Who are you not to be fabulous?

I just saw Akeelah and the Bee and this quote from Marianne Williamson really connected with me:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
We were born to make manifest the glory of
 God that is within us.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

Thanks to those of you who let your light shine and help those of us following in your footsteps!!

Until next time..
Tina
