Before After

Plodding Along!

Mark and I were at the gym again this morning. We were both down about 3lbs. I was quite surprised. (We really should put more effort into it!)

I was unable to even do 500m on the rower and left him still rowing. I just felt like crap. My arm still hurts and it has been T-storming all day. Just Yucky!

My job will end mid-April. I checked on my medical coding school and found that I was 29th in line. (kicking myselft for forgetting my application!) The receptionist sounded positive that I would still be able to start in May.

Imagine the Possibilities

I almost feel bad about posting this. Mark and I both lost 2lbs again. I only managed the gym 1x last week due to illness and Mark 2x. I told him this morning, “imagine what we could do if we actually put some real effort into this?!” Well we made it through the weights ok, neither of us did great. Oh, I almost forgot, I’m so proud of Mark. He was 24th of all the male members in total weights lifted! This was for December when we had better attendance but alas, I was beaming for him this morning. I think it put a little strut in his walk too!

We both upped the ante on our rowing, he’s up to 1600m and I’m at 1500m. It took me less time to do these 1500 than the last 1400m last wk so I’m happy about that progress.

Now to start painful, albeit, small changes to our lifestyle….mostly our eating. Imagine if we are losing 2lbs wkly without any effort, we could be svelte in no time! I’m pretty my body wouldn’t know what to do with svelte so we will just keep on truckin’ to just “less”!

The Cold Bright Side

Well a cold hit me out of the blue last night. My husband made it to the gym this morning but not me. I just made it out of bed at 7p! Still weak and stuffy but maybe this will be one of those colds that goes just as quickly as it came.

Maybe better exercising info tomorrow.

On the bright side...I didn't pig out all day since i was too weak to get out of bed!

Rowing Back

Mark and I started back to the gym this morning. After one month of snow, illnesses, and outright laziness...we found our way back there! Amazingly, we both lost weight! Now it was only about 2 pounds each but wow...we both expected a gain!

The weights were a little rough but I made it through 2-3 sets on each one. What a shame the shoulder press machine was out of order! I hate that one the most.

We managed to pull out 1400m on the rowers but it kicked our butts. Can't wait to get back there tomorrow assuming we can move!

Lunch Walk

Last night was my first night back to work and it is always the longest since I go without sleep for more than 24hrs. There was just no way I was going to make it to the gym this morning. I'm usually worried whether or not I can just drive the 3m home! I did try something new though last night. On my lunch, I usually catch a 25min cat nap but instead I walked around our building for about 20min. It was about 30 degrees so it was brisk but not too bad until the last circle. I will probably try it again tonight.

Now back to bed...

Quick Update

Not so much to write about. Went to gym and managed to do another 1300m on rower. I didn't bump up the distance by 100m since it has been about a week since I have rowed an inch.

We weighed in today, I'm down 1 and Mark is up 2 so we did okay over the Christmas holidays.

No Room at the Inn, er....Gym!

Our time at the gym today was less than spectacular. I couldn’t believe all the people there! It is usually busy on Friday mornings but this was crazy. I’m guessing that all the rehab and elderly members that flock there on Saturday morning were coming in early as the gym will be closed Saturday.

We couldn’t get to a treadmill to warm up so Mark and I started right in on the weight machines. I felt so weak. I wasn’t able to do all three sets on each machine except one. When we both feebly ended our weight routine, we headed to the only two rowers in the gym.

Now these are older looking pieces of equipment tucked in the farthest corner of the floor (which I love!) and there is NEVER anybody on them. Usually, it doesn’t look like the settings have even been touched. Not today…two elderly men were leisurely rowing their boats to nowhere. Actually one had stopped completely and was just chatting with his buddy who was still rowing at a snail’s pace.

At this point, I was starving since I had eaten lunch early at 3a (I work graveyard) so we just left. We ran one pet sitting errand and then ate at McDonalds.

After that, we toured the new indoor shooting range, Shooter’s Edge. It seems very nice. Mark and I are contemplating a yearly membership but the money just isn’t there right now. We will definitely splurge on a few hourly visits in the meantime. Nothing says love like a gunplay!

1300 Macaroons

That would have been more fun than the 1300m Mark and I rowed today! I actually felt really good and was able to complete the 1300 without a break. My strokes/minute rate is considerably slower than Mark’s so he had to take a few breethers. My intensity isn’t as much as his, longer legs, stronger arms; I will never be able to compete with him! I love rowing side by side with him though. There is really something uplifting working out in the gym with your partner that makes me more self-confident.

We are planning to “gym-it” on Friday morning but that will be it until Monday. Heaven forbid we use the treadmill standing, collecting dust, in our living room!

XS notes: My HUSBAND’S dog ate several of my specialty threads during the night. She grabbed the baggie off the TV tray. The project was over so it wasn’t too bad but lordy, she is one chewing ball of frustration. Good thing she is so darn cute!

120000 centimeters!

Doesn’t that sound more impressive than 1200meters???

Well Mark and I made our daily goal of an additional 100m so we finished 1200m this morning. At this pace it will take us about 3months to get up to the recommended 10K work-out for weight loss. Hopefully, we will still have the gym membership that long!

The layoff is still looming but I still haven’t received my personal end date. Such a strange “limbo” feeling.

Yesterday, my father took us out to dinner and I found a new way to diet. I always get a fajita quesadilla and am usually so full when I leave the table that I almost feel sick. Last night, the first order was sent back as it was wrong and then my father dropped his glass, showering my second order with his drink and ice! I was about half through the queso and left the table without being sick. Maybe not the most efficient way to cut calories??

Here’s hoping Wednesday brings 1300m!

Monday Morning

Not a ton to tell this morning. Mark and I hit them gym early (about 615a) and managed 1100m on the rowers. My goal was to add 250m each visit but I don't think that's possible right now. We were wiped out and it only took 6min to get there! Right now I can never see making a 10K session in an hour. We are so weak at the end of 1100m that it feels like a full workout.

Just have to take my final exam today for accounting. It was supposed to be last Monday but it was cancelled due to weather. Did I use the extra week to study???? I'm pretty sure all the extra cross-stitching I did over the snowy break isn't going to help me much! Too bad I can't put that skill on a resume!

Oh, Mark and I did both lose weight on this weigh-in. He's down 3, me 2. Not too bad since we really haven't addressed our eating habits yet. The gym was our first step to weightloss and somehow seems less painful than giving up our bad eating!

I did make one concerted effort towards "slightly" better food choices. I purchased tortillas to eat with my eggs instead of the 3 pieces of toast I usually consume. I was able to split 2scrambled eggs with onion, bacon and cheese quite nicely over 2 small tortillas. I know it's not ideal but it's better than the way I was making my omelets up to today!

edit: I looked at the nutritional value for the tortillas vs bread and basically, they are equal in calories and carbs. So not a great deal of benefit to me there. However, I realized though that with the tortillas, I'm not using any butter which i slathered on each slice of toast so there's my improvement!
