Before After

Pilates for Pink Review

Yesterday, I attended Shape Magazine's Pilates for Pink Breast Cancer fundraiser in Union Square Park, NYC.  I signed up for their first two classes, one was an abs, butt and thighs class taught by Lizabeth Garcia and the second was a pilates groove class given by Misty Tripoli.  The first class was great, very traditional pilates and I can say that my abs and but are super sore today!  So, I went online and ordered a few of Lizabeth's DVD's this morning.  The second class was so different, it was basically a non-class, Misty had us walk around the room just freestyling and being goofballs.  I can't say I got a great workout, but it was a lot of fun.  I will definitley do this again next year!  When you leave, they gave us all canvas bags with random samples from sponsors and then there was a little festival around the event.  Unfortunately it was really crappy weather, rained almost the whole day, so I didn't linger for long.  My afternoon plans were cancelled, so I went home, laid on my couch and took a 4-hour nap!  Crazy!

Calories Posted at the Baseball Game!

For those of you who do not live in the NYC vicinity, you may  not realize that it is now a law for all food establishments who have 15 or more outposts to display the calorie counts on menus and menu boards in the hopes that we will make better food choices.  They also outlawed trans-fats last year which was big news at the time, but I havent' heard much about lately...anyhow, I digress.

So, I went to the Mets game on Tuesday for one last horrah at Shea before it gets turned into a parking lot this winter.  So, I meander up to the snack bar to get my lovely carb filled dinner of a pretzel and fries which I had planned on having because thats really the only option for me at the ball park, most other things have animal products in them.  I was so surprised to see that they had the calorie counts posted for all of the items on there!  I loved it, it jus tmakes it that much easier to plan your day out.  Just knowing that the pretzel is 400 and the fries are 500 I feel like at least I know what I am getting myself into.  I know it's not healthy, but it's a rare treat and really just to keep my tummy from grumbling.  It did make me think though...man, they really need to get some options that are healthy here, I would love to see a sub-200 calorie snack available.  Maybe at the new stadium!

Feeling Positive

So, a week ago I decided to plan out all of my meals for the next two weeks and the good news is that I have stayed on plan for the most part.  Yay!  I've also been going to the gym and my 3-day weight and 4-day cardio schedule seems to be working well for me.

I think that the summer is just such a hard time for all of us to keep things under control.  What with all of the weddings, showers, bbq's and vacations, its really difficult to keep everything under control.  I'm looking forward to the fall (it's my favorite season in the North East) and I know that it will be great!

Keep up the good work!

One Year and Five Days Later...

So, I'd say that after a year of really focusing on my weight, I am satisfied with where I am at today.  Overall, I've lost 19 pounds that I've been able to keep off for six months.  I do still want to lose those last 6 pounds, but I am happy to have gone down one or two pant sizes and now wear a Medium size shirt most of the time.  I've added a lot of healthy recipes to my rotation and I think I've also had a positive effect on my BF even if he don't admit it.  Also, I couldn't have been so sucessful if it hadn't been for your inspiring words and thoughts that I've been able to rely on for the past year, I really attribute a lot of my progress to that element.

Keep up the great work!

Happy Birthday to Me

So todays the big day - I'm entering my 30's.  I have mixed feelings about it.  I know that its not old or anything, it just makes me reevaluate things that I've accomplished so far in my life.  For whatever reason it makes me feel like I need a change, last time this happened I basically packed a bag and left behind my whole previous life and moved onto a new one.  Funny thing is, six years later I sort of feel the same way even though I changed my life substantially.  So, we'll see...

This past weekend I did my best, well, I tried to do my best.  I did eat a lot of potato chips while tailgating at the Jets vs. Giants game, but I didn't drink any alcohol so I figured they were counteracting each other.  I also had a few pieces of vegan cake that my BF made fo rme, it was delish.  We even shared it with some of his family who is wary of my vegan diet and they said that it tasted pretty good as well.  Tonight I'm going to a picnic at a botanical garden that I'm a member at with my BF, so eating shouldn't be a problem.  This weekend though, I'm going to a wedding for an old friend of mine in Pittsburgh, so I'll really have to pay attention so that I don't go overboard.

Have a great labor day weekend!

The New Plan of Attack must be working

So, about three weeks ago, I started a 4-day a week cardio and a 3-day a week weight lifting plan because I felt like I was focusing too much on cardio just because it's easier for me to fit into my schedule.  I also do some pilates classes and additional cardio when I can fit it in, but thats my basic schedule.  I've also been doing better about eating on track (except for a sleeve of sandwich cookies that I devoured last Friday).  So, I'm happy to report that I am down 3.5 pounds from last weeks weigh in.

This week has been pretty low key which is nice.  The following week will be taken up with a lot of nights out because my 30th birthday is on the 27th and it seems like I've got something going on most nights revolving around that for the next week or so.  I'm certainly not complaining, but I'm not expecting the scale to budge much.  My goal will be to keep it the same.  Also, in another week, I'll be going to Pittsburgh for a wedding.  My BF can't make it, so my sister is going to meet up with me there which should be tons of fun.  I think the wedding is going to be very casual which I'm not really used to, I'm used to black-tie or very formal weddings.  The bride (who is a good friend of mine from childhood) mentioned to me that her and the bridal party might be wearing baseball jersey's to the reception I was suddenly thinking 'what am I supposed to wear?', but I didn't want to bother her with my issues since I'm sure she's got enough to think about.  Then I googled the club where the reception is being held at and found out that it's a bowling alley, so I'm stumped.  I think I'll probably still wear my little black dress with heels and bring a pair of socks and sneakers in case we are going to be bowling :)

Take Care and keep up the great work!

Ugh, not again!

Well, this whole past week, I've been weiging in the same, but of course today which I consider my official weigh-in day I am up 1.5 pounds.  I'm thinking its related to some french fries I ate last night and also I am getting my TOM tomorrow.  So I am hopeful that if I continue with my eating and exercise plans I'll be down again next week.  This weekend is looking pretty good, so I don't think I'll go too crazy.

Tonight I'm going to a concert, it's outdoor in what used to be a city pool but is now empty and they use it for concerts and movies...should be interesting.  I've heard its a great venue and the weather looks terrific, so I'm looking forward to it!

Have a great day!

A Week Back from Vacation

So, I have been back from my 10-day vacation for a week now and I think that I'm back to my pre-vacation weight which is good.  I really only gained one or two pounds, but in this past week, I have had plans every night so it's been difficult to eat on plan and get in as much movement as I would like.  This week looks slightly better, but still really busy, I think I should be fine though.  I've revamped my gym routine a little bit, so that should be a good kickstart.

I did a 10K this morning on the treadmill in 63 minutes which is a good time for me.  My legs feel like jelly, but thats besides the point :).  Tonight I'm heading out for a mini reunion with some girls I went to high school with who all now live in nyc.  I honestly recall being friends with only one of them, but I think I know the other two girls, should be fun nonetheless.  We're going to a Korean place that comes highly recommended, so I'm looking forward to that.  The menu also looks really healthy so I think I'll be fine with my eating tonight.

Have a great day!

Wearing cute clothes help

So this morning I decided to wear a form fitting tank top and pants instead of the typical baggy tshirt and pants I normally wear.  I was so surprised how much better I felt in those clothes!  Maybe I need to change my workout gear to more form fitting instead of my left over race tshirts.  I still may try to avoid shorts because my legs are just so pastey white, I hate looking at them.  Though, I suppose if I exposed them more often they might get some color...its like the chicken and the egg debate...

Today I have a meeting with my new manager, apparently I was promoted and they didn't think they had to tell me, so I found out through a third party.  So, naturally I'm curious to find out the details of this change...hopefully he has some info for me.

My calves hurt

For some reason, my calves are killing me.  If it happened shortly after my 12-miler on Saturday I would think its attributed to that, but this is a few days later so I'm stumped.  I look like a goof whenever I start to walk around after sitting for a while.  Had a good workout this morning, I didn' t make it in time for my cardio kick class, but I did some weight training and about an hour of cardio.  Tonight I'm meeting up with a friend for dinner, so I'm looking forward to that.  My weigh in today went well, and I'm feeling pretty good today.

Keep up the good work!
