Started a detox cleanse yesterday to try and jump start an new focus on getting my body in gear. Need to cut out a lot of what I usually eat -- this is going to be challenging. No coffee this morning -- getting ready for my breakfast fruit shake. We shall see.

Back to Week One After Almost 2 Year Absence
I happened to look at this website again the other night for the first time since mid 2009 and it hit me that the only time I have made successful progress in weight loss was when I committed to doing a blog here to keep myself accountable.
I stopped in 2009 when my job was eliminated after 29 years -- couldn't keep focused on my blog and weight loss. During this time my father got a fast growing cancer and much of my time was spent with my family up until his death in June. I've been working on a consulting basis since last May, but have had a hard time getting focused again on taking care of myself and spending the time to exercise and focus on my weight loss goals.
I've managed to be back to where I started more than 2 years ago (nothing like have to lose the same pounds again), but this is my recommitment to taking care of myself. Since today was a holiday, I went to yoga this morning and went to the gym to do weights tonight. It is a start!

The 150's!!
I finally made it - it may have only been by .2 pounds but at least there was a 5 instead of a 6! I've worn pants the last 2 days that haven't been out of my closet for 3 or 4 years so it feels like progress. Would love to be in all too small clothes by June 1. I have been working to get ready for my audition next week and have kept focused on exercise -- still need to find a tape measure to figure out how many inches I've lost.
Who knows, maybe I could be in that Helen Mirren bikini by the end of summer.

10 Hours of Activity Since Thursday
I've been very focused and managed to get 10 hours of activity since last Thursday. I was helped be my 3 hours cleaning up the gardens -- productive exercise. It really makes a difference in my ability to handle stress -- which is very high right now. Hope now that the pounds will start to drop off in response to the exercise.

Cut the Tags off a Pair of formerly too Small Pants to Wear to Work!
I bought some pants in a smaller size when they were on sale and I finally can start wearing them! Unfortunately I have a whole closet full of clothes to work my way into, but at least this is another step. I will need to have a party when I finally able able to cut the tags off of ALL my aspirational shopping items. I had my first interview for a job in over 20 years yesterday --all my previous positions have just been something I was asked to do. It was scary but I survived. I have a great suit in my closet I bought a couple years ago and never have been able to wear. Would love to get into it to wear if I make it to the next step -- may be in another 5 pounds.

Making Progress even With Vacation -- You don't have to gain weight on a cruise.!
It has been a month since I've been on my blog. I was on vacation for two weeks -- a week in Miami with my husband and sons and 5 days on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate my sister's 50th B-day. I've been home for a week and managed to be down a couple pounds from pre- vacation weight. I used the workout equipment at the resort and on the ship. I ate the 5 course meals at dinner each night on the cruise and a glass or two of wine with dinner, but kept active, had fish most nights and didn't finish food that was only ok. I enjoyed my meals and even had a few of those fun drinks by the pool, but managed to keep it all balanced. It has actually been harder to get back into a good routine at home due to stress at work, but the last 3 days I've pulled it back together and exercised each morning. I couldn't find my tape measure this morning to see how many inches are gone, but I'm definitely feeling a big difference in my clothes -- starting to fit in more of those size 10s, but have a lot still to go. I have a big audition in a couple weeks so hope so be down an couple more pounds and continue to "tighten up" from my workout routine. With 15 days to the audition, I'd love to get in 20 hours of exercise between weights, yoga, biking etc. to prepare -- gives a lot more energy for singing. We shall see.

Lowest Weight since 2007
This morning was a pleasant surprise -- the scale moved! I broke my low from July of 2007 so it feels like I'm finally moving forward. I got to bed too late after my performance last night to get up and exercise this morning, so this will have to be my rest day. There is nothing like the scale moving to get me motivated.

Pretty Good Week
It's been a crazy week, but the opera opening was very successful and I'll complete final performances this weekend. My eating has been a bit crazy because it has been on the run most nights as I fly from work to the theater, but overall I've managed to exercise and lose a pound. I've had a couple nights of late night munchies after the show but often I hadn't managed to eat enough during the day so they weren't fatal. I've made it to yoga on my two nights off this week and done the bike most mornings. On Monday since I did both I got in a total of 2.25 hours of exercise. We leave on vacation 2 weeks from tomorrow -- would love to at least get off 5 pounds before then. Next week when the opera is done I'll have no excuses left.

6 Months of "Week 1s" in my Helen Mirren Body Quest
It is over a month since I last logged on. I realized it has been 6 months since I began attempting my "reinvention" inspired by the picture of a 63 year old Helen Mirren in a bikini. While my weight loss has been minimal, there are enough things that I have accomplished that I keep returning to this journey.
1. Wearing smaller size clothes at my current weight -- I have been consistent enough about exercise that I have reshaped my body significantly.
2. Regular yoga practice has made me much stronger and more flexible -- I can do poses today that were a huge challenge 6 months ago.
3. I have a better understanding of the interaction of diet and exercise in creating success -- a bad days does not make me give up -- this isn't an all or nothing where temporary setbacks should determine success or failure. It really is a lifestyle journey.
4. Keeping steady during stressful times is a victory.
Life as usual has been crazy lately trying to do an opera while working -- the US premiere of The Adventures of Pinocchio. It opens this weekend which will free up some time to get back to more focus on this journey. I won't be in a bikini by March spring break, but at least I'll have less sagging flesh.

Week 1 (AGAIN!)
I've had a good first week back. I've managed 3 yoga sessions, 2 times doing weights at the gym, a few days on the bike and today I tried a Zumba class at the gym. It is basically a Latin dance class and I have two left feet but it was a good work out and if I keep going I might even get more graceful. It has been below zero most of the week so I've avoided the outdoors. We had a beautiful light snow earlier today -- one of those magical snows that makes everything look so pretty.
I am finally sleeping again after the jet lag so should be able to get back to a normal routine. I'm off to San Francisco mid week, but hope to get a couple sessions in at the gym before I go. I am trying to get in my 12 visits to get my health plan discount -- since I signed up I've never managed to get it because of travel so I'm determined to at least get it one time. Figure if I can get it once it will be easier to get in the routine. I started rehearsals yesterday for Pinocchio so that will add a little complexity, but my goal for the new year is to start putting myself first so hopefully I can stick to my plan
