Before After

Getting Back Into It

Well, I started back on Tuesday, and I really hope I can stick with it this time.  I did well before vacation, but afterwards, everything seemed to just fall apart.

I'm at 160.6 now, after a week of starting slowly, so it seems like a good starting point.  We head to Pennsylvania and New York on August 7th for vacation, so hopefully I'll improve some more in the next three weeks.

I'll keep you posted.

Cancun was wonderful!!

We had a fantastic trip and LOVED Cancun.  They have the most beautiful beaches there and the snorkelling is great!  The water was the most beautiful shade of blue that I have ever seen!  We did all kinds of cool things - several snorkel trips, a side trip to Cozumel, a trip to Tulum (Mayan ruins), Hidden Worlds - underground cavern snorkeling, and a jungle tour on power boats.  My son also got to jetski - which is always a highlight for him.  I'll try to post some pictures soon....

Needless to say, we ate out every night, and my weight is up by two pounds.  At least I'm still under the 160 pound mark, which is fine with me.  Hopefully, I'll get back on track next week, but work is just crazy right now.

I'll check back soon!

Great Weigh-in Today!!

Wow, the scale was 158.4 this morning!!  I was so happy, considering my husband made some wonderful stir-fry rice last night, and I had 2-1/2 helpings (and they weren't exactly small)!  I did have a long and hard workout yesterday, though.  I did my neighborhood run/walk (about 4 miles), and then I did a Firm DVD.  My heart rate monitor says I burned almost 1100 calories.  I'm not sure why I went so crazy, and I'm sure I'll feel it today!!

We leave on Monday, and my challenge will be to fit a few more workouts in before then.  My daughter has a volleyball tournament all weekend, so that means not much personal time.  And I have to pack as well.....And we always have tons of food at these tournaments, as each family brings something each day.

I've had some successes and some failures.....
- water - I am drinking at least 6 per day.
- eating after 8 p.m. - I haven't been snacking after 8.
- journaling - oh well, no luck here, although I'm trying to make smart choices.
- fruits/veggies - not doing well
- dairy - need to get more in each day

Hope you all have a great week, and I'll check in when I get back on the 10th!!

Mini goal achieved....just took a bit longer....

Well, I've made it into the 150's....barely.  The scale was 159.4 on Saturday, and still at 159.8 this morning (after eating way too much this weekend).  I've got some good exercise planned this afternoon, so that should help.

My daughter and I did a 5K on Saturday in Los Angeles.  It was fun, and I finished in 37:21 minutes.  Not a record breaking time, but I was happy just the same.  I ran most of it, which was an accomplishment for me.  I came in 8th place in my age group (probably out of 8 people.....)

We leave for Cancun in one week...YEA!!  I can't wait!  I can use some time off and some relaxation.  I'll continue to work out hard this week, and keep track of my points.

Hope you are all doing well!  It was great to see so many of you on Friday night....I've missed you all a lot.

As you can see, I'm not good at this.....

It has been way too long since my last post.  I've never been much of a writer, and never seem to get my thoughts down well on paper (or computer).

I haven't been good over the past month, but I haven't been bad either.  I'm getting some exercise in and trying to make healthy eating choices, but I need to do more.  The weight has been coming off very slowly.....I tend to be good Monday through Thursday, when work keeps me from grazing most of the day.  I have healthy food choices stashed in my desk.  It's the Friday through Sunday that kills me!

My goal for the next week is to get below the 160 mark.  I've been between 159.6 and 161.3 over the past two weeks.  Seeing that scale under the 160 mark was nice, so it will be something good to work toward.

Things are crazy here.  We have the annual audit at work and both kids are very busy with sports.

OK, so in summary, here's what I'm going to do:
- get in my water, dairy and fruits/veggies.
- write down EVERYTHING!
- exercise somehow every day, even a short walk.
- take my vitamins - I've been so bad at that.
- get groceries on Friday - healthy choices for the weekend!

Mini-goal:  159.5 by next Thursday weigh-in.

Have a great day!

My goals and eventual VFT

I've been thinking about my goals and where I would like to be eventually.  Back in 1992, I went on Jenny Craig, and my weight went from 148 to 122 pounds.  I think at this point in my life, 122 pounds is a weight that would be considered unhealthy with my height of 5'7".  It's funny that now I'm thinking 145 would be a nice goal .....where it was almost my starting point 15 years ago.

Karrie, I love your idea of VFT "Virgin Fat Territory"  I'm trying to link to your site....but it's not working for me.....  I think 148 would be my VFT point, since the 122 didn't last for long.

Anyway, with the way my weight loss goes, I've set a mini-goal of 155 for me for early April (we leave for Cancun on 4/2/07).  That's 7 pounds in 7 weeks.  I'd also like to get better muscle tone by then.  After that, I would like to work on the final 10 pounds by mid-June.

I'm going to work hard on journaling and setting a schedule for workouts.  Maybe I'll set up a personal training session at the gym to learn the machines, or start up with my Firm workouts again.  I need to work on the water, and the fruits & veggies as well.

Thanks for the support, everyone!

Thanks for all the encouragement...

I really appreciate all the encouragement you all give me!!  Not much is new on the dedication front....  I've been too busy to organize my thoughts and plan ahead.  This weekend isn't going to be much better, with volleyball tournaments and other activities filling all my free time.

If I can just control my eating at work, and then not go too crazy on the weekends, I can hopefully start slowly.  I will try to get some walking in very soon, too.

Thanks again for all your comments and support!!

Getting started, but not motivated

Well, here I am trying to start for the one-millionth time and trying to find some motivation.  I know it should be a "lifestyle change" and not a "diet", but I haven't been able to see it that way yet.  Work is so busy, and my kids are constantly on the go with school and sports activities.    I know, I know.....excuses, excuses.

What is the best way to get motivated for this?

I need to sit down and make a plan.  Maybe put together a notebook.  Some items which may help are:
- create some milestones and rewards.  Not too hard - achievable.
- find some incentive pictures, people I admire.
- create a schedule - include workouts and shopping time.
- limit the fast food - we spend too much time eating out.
- break out some clothes which I would like to be able to wear again.
- get some good low-fat recipes.
- set up some reminder of my upcoming April trip to Cancun... it  sure would be nice to look good in a swimsuit again.

I definitely need all the support I can get!!  Any ideas out there??  Recipes? Suggestions?  Thanks.....
