Run #86 Bucktown 5K Race Report
Date: October 5th at 8:30am
Place: Bucktown 5K in, uh, the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago (and also very close to my job...I've run many of these streets on many occasions.) Not sure of the temperature.
Mileage: 3.1
Time It Took: 36:52
Pace: 11:52
Miles this week: An embarrasing 5.1 miles
Miles this month: 3.1
2008 Goal: 492.07
Thoughts/Comments: Great course...last time I ran this race was back in like 1999 or 2000 when it started over at Holstein Park. Anyway, it's been pretty chilly lately, so I busted out the long sleeve tech shirt. Mistake. I was blazing hot by Mile 1. But let me back up.
I met up with Nicole (friend and fellow co-worker) and then also met up with Celia. Doesn't that name sound familiar? Ok maybe not unless you obsessively read my old posts from last summer. She was our pace leader at Chicago Endurance Sports for our first half of the marathon training. This was her first run since running the Chicago Distance Classic in 2007. In between this time she's managed to have a baby and all that good family stuff. Anyway, this was a good run for her to get back into the swing of things. We called Jaime, but never got the chance to talk to her.
So we started off together. I knew we were too fast but just didn't slow down. We were ranging between 10:30 and 11:00, according to my Garmin. (too fast for US.) After the first mile, Celia dropped back, and at around 1.5 miles I let Nicole go on ahead, envying her short-sleeved shirt. I rolled up my sleeves and hept going, stopping on additional time to walk. I was hot.
There is nothing really exciting to report, other than it was cool running down the middle of the streets near my job in what is otherwise a fairly crowded neighborhood with a busy commercial district and narrow residential streets. Towards the end I looked around for Celia but didn't see her. Then up ahead I see the finish line...there was Celia right in front of me. Her finish time was 36:50!
So it is what it is, or rather it was what it was, just an ok race. Nice gear, though. I'm wearing my super-thick sweatshirt right now.
