Run 119B Trick or Treat Trot 5K
Sweet glory, look at these results:
415 1975 BELINDA WORDLAW F 36 26/64 31:02 10:00 CHICAGO IL Translation: I was in 415th place out of 847 5K runners (top half
), my bib number, my name, my sex (in case you thought I was a man all this time you've beenr eading my blog), 26th place out of 64 female runners in the 35 to 39 age bracket, official time, PACE, and where I live. YES. I HAD A 10 minutes per mile pace.
Now mind you, as of Saturday at 4:45pm I had no intention of running this race. But my friend Annah drafted me in and so it was settled. I decided to just run how I feel, and running under an 11:00 pace would be doable.
So Me and my trusty Garmin, (who I've decided to name Celia after my first pace leader I ever had), we started off the run. Of course it was the usual stupid costumed runners with an occasional funny or creative one. The course was nice, along the lakefront beginning at Montrose Harbor and heading north up to Foster Beach before heading back down. There was a 10K run too, but there was no way I was doing that. (i don't know, I don't particularly care for that distance in a race.) Anyway. Mile 1, I hit the lap on Celia-G and bingo bango, 10:00 on the dot. Wow, I think to myself, I don't know if I can keep this up. Sure enough, 2 miles, I hit the lap again, 10:18. Whoa, no way I can make up that 18 seconds, no WAY. So Im trucking along, dodging puddles on the path and stuff...everything's gravy. For me, this run couldn't have been over soon enough for some reason. I was ready to just be done. 3 miles, lap, 9:47. WHOA! .1 mile to go so I turned it on, then scaled back a little b/c I immediately felt weird...so I cross the finish line and hit my watch, which read 31:04. Obviously the official results showed I was 2 seconds off.
So that was the run, I am very happy. While 10:00 pace is still considered slow, for me it's of FloJo caliber!!! I once ran a 5K at 29:29 back in my lighter days (and I puked afterwards, too), so someday that will be my goal again, to beat that time--not to puke after running--but this run is pretty significant for me still.
