Before After

Run#8 Shamrock Shuffle 8K

Well, I completed my first "race" of the running season yesterday, hooray!  It was a tough one, maybe in that I haven't run anything over 3 miles yet, and this was almost 5 miles (4.96)  I'm rounding up in my total mileage to 5, since most of my 3 miles runs to date have actually been 3.03.  Anyway, my husband brought the girls down to watch.  And after seeing about 20,000 of the 30,000 runners pass, they finally got to see me.  I stopped and took pictures with the girls and downed about half a bottle of water, and then took off again.  I could hear my older daughter screaming and crying for me to come back.  Since they were near a turnaround point on the course (and near a Pockets, too), I got to see them again.  I stopped again and said hello, took another picture and went on my merry way.  This time there was no crying.

Anyway, it all went fine, other than the fiasco at the water stations (had to stand in line to get a cup of water).  I wanted to do under an hour, but I guess I didn't want it THAT bad since I stopped and took pictures and stuff.  I guess you could say that this was a fun run for me, nothing serious.  It was good to get out there!

Here are my results:

Scheduled Mileage: 3.5 miles
Actual Mileage (Shamrock Shuffle 8K): 4.96 miles
    Temp/Time of Day:  70's and sunny / 9:30am
Time it Took:  1:03:26 (chip time)
Calculated Pace:  12:47 minutes per mile / 4.69mph
Miles this week:  12 miles
Training Miles to Date: 22 miles

Thoughts/Comments:  I know I'm not supposed to worry about pace/speed, but I want to make sure I'm at/under 12 minute miles.  I'm not sure how long I actually stopped for with the girls or at the fiasco water station at mile 2, maybe it was around 3 or 4 minutes total, but I'm not sure.

Sounds like you're doing great!  Keep up the good work!

Time/Pace

I think pictures and memories are worth the extra 3 minutes it took you.  Having your own cheering section, especially with your girls and proud husband, makes it an even better experience.  Great job on your run!  Almost 5 miles is fabulous!

Oh, and your "confession" is safe with me! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one.
