Well, that's the first two months. Steve has lost 45 pounds and I've lost 15lbs. We're really starting to notice the difference now. We both feel a lot fitter already. I really must start to exercise more. My metabolism has alway been on the slow side and this might help things along.
My daughter and I have signed up for the Race for Life. It's not until July so I've got plenty of time to get fit. I hope that I can run at least some of it. This will be the 4th year I've completed it. It's especially important this year with my mum being ill with cancer.
We both find following WeightWatchers easier with only the two of us at home. We don't have to buy anything for kids or any junk food. If it's not in the house you can't eat it, can you? We need to make sure though, that we don't start to just eat the same things, day in and day out. I think we'll take a look at the recipes and try some out. I'll try to take some more photos soon so everybody can see the changes.
So, we've had the first 4 weeks. I've lost 10.5lbs and Steve has lost 25lbs so that is over 2 1/2 stone between us! I put on some trousers today for work that before Christmas I couldn't wear anymore as they were way too tight. Steve is nearly into a new work jacket, about another two weeks I guess.
The month started really well but last week I found out that my mum has bowel cancer. The hospital thought she had severe diverticulitis. The surgeon opened her up to remove some bowel but instead found a huge tumour. There is nothing they can really do. This has come as a huge shock to us all. It was really difficult to try and stick to my points when we had to go dashing across the country. My mum lives 3 hours away from us. But some how I more or less managed and with a 3 pound loss this week.
I think I will do the Race for Life again this year as my dad passed away with lung cancer 4 years ago and of course, now this. I've done it for the last three years so even more reason to carry on.
Life deals some cruel blows! Steve's mum passed away in October from heart failure so we've had a rotten few months. But we've booked a holiday on the Costa Del Sol for October so at least we've something nice to look forward to.
So now, Steve wants to reach his 10% goal soon and I want to reach 14lbs in the next two weeks. We can do it!
Well, we have now weighed in for the 3rd week. So far I have lost 7.5lbs which is ok. Steve has lost 22lbs! Mind you, he's a lot bigger than me so has further to go.
But I only lost 1lb this week which I was a little bit disappointed with. I'm going to try and do some more walking this week. Because I work in an office I'm sat down all day and I'm sure that doesn't help. If I can try to do 30 mins walking every day, I'll get fitter if nothing else.
Even a pound a week is 4 stone at the end of the year so I'll keep plodding on!
Last night I went on my exercise bike for the first time in months. I only managed 5 minutes before I was out of breath. I was appalled! I obviously have quite a way to go to build up a bit of fitness. Steve has started on his treadmill again but he can only manage 10 minutes on that.
Anyway, I was thinking in bed last night of all the reasons why I want to lose weight and here they are:
1. None of my clothes fit properly.
2. Aching knees
3. Underwear rolls down and jumpers roll up.
4. I'm the fattest one at work and I hate it.
5. Lots of heartburn
6. My mother had a stroke at my age.
7. My father had a heart bypass at 55.
8. I can't wear high heels.
9. Four boob syndrome! On a bad day, six.
10. I can't even face going abroad on holiday being this fat.
I'm on leave from work this week as my son Craig, who's 23 is moving to Gran Canaria at the weekend so I'm spending some time with him. I'm hoping to use the time to do lots of walking. But today it's blowing a gale and chucking it down with rain, hopefully it'll ease off later and I can get out then.
This is our first entry in our weight loss challenge.
Steve is 46 and started at 25st 13lb and I am 45 and started at 16st 1lb so as you can see we have quite a way to go. Actually over 18 stone between us! On 3rd January 2008 we decided to join our local WeightWatchers class in Sherborne, Dorset where we live. We just had to do something as our weight problem was getting beyond a joke.
None of our clothes fitted and we were so tired all the time. So we took the plunge and joined together, deciding that it would be easier if we both went to classes. Anyway, we had our first weigh in last week and Steve lost 9lbs and I lost 5lbs so we had a really good start.
We know it is going to takes ages but we're not worried about that. As long as we're going down the scales and not up, that's all that matters. We've both got clothes in all sizes imaginable, like most people!
So we shall see what the next couple of weeks brings. Our first target is May Bank Holiday as we are going to visit Steve's family in London. We won't have seen them since Christmas and we want to make a real impact. Also Steve's mum passed away in Oct 07 and she always nagged us both about our weight so we're kind of doing it for her as well.
