Frozen Dinners???

I have a question.....

For lunch everyday I usually have a frozen dinner... like a SmartOnes, Healthy Choice, or a Lean Cuisine. Now while they are advertised and promoted as healthy choices are they???????? It seems like they are high in sodium, and I thought that was bad???? So I'm wondering are they good for me?? Are they a good lunch option... or do I need to find something else??? Just wondering what you guys thought.......

So I have been challenged to run a mile....... and not just challenged by anyone but my 2nd grade class. In PE every quarter they are timed running the mile. When I was walking them to PE yesterday they were talking about the upcoming mile next week. Well a few of my oh so precious boys informed that if I were to run it I would come in last place!!! I was like WHAT??? there is no way I would be last..... but they disagreed they said "Ms. Gaynor you are old, you would for sure be last!" (I'm turing 25 next weeek) So why I feel I have to prove myself to a bunch of 2nd graders is beyond me, but I'm going to kick some 2nd grade butt in the mile run next Wednesday!!!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Calories

I keep a little note pad in my purse and each page is a day.  All the store bought stuff has the nutritional info on it obviously.  Other things like fruits and veggies i've looked up on line.  A lot of restaraunt and fast food places are online as well.  I use DietFacts.com for a lot of that.  Not everything is on there but I usually can find something pretty close to give me a good guess.  In the back of my little notebook I have written the places I eat out most often and the things I usually get from there so the info's always handy.  I also wrote in some things I make a lot at home, like pizza on an english muffin or different sandwich's or dinners, so I dont have to add each ingredient up every time I make them.  Kinda lame, I know, but I've learned over and over that if I dont pay really close attention, I dont make very good choices.

The mile run challenge is toooo cute    Im sure you'll kick butt and the kids will be shocked.  They underestimate us so much!

Soup

Alot of my friends that are doing WW....swear by those progresso 0 point soups......for WW points...there is this little slide rule...it takes into account calories, grams of fat and grams of fiber.  But all processed foods contain quite a bit of sodium....not too much of an issue at your age....except for TOM water weight gain......on the other hand.....if you stay away from it now....maybe you could break the genetic trend of getting high b/p in your 40's.

I hope you are keeping track of all these cute things your students say and do.

Sodium

I keep track of all my calories and stuff on The Daily Plate and the recommend no more than 2200 grams of sodium. I live on the frozen dinners and I very rarely go over my limit. You shoudl be fine!

Frozen Dinners and Sodium

You're right about the sodium.  There is alot of it in processed foods and those frozen dinners seem to have quite a bit.  Check out some nutritional resources, via the web.  The govt has some info at www.mypyramid.com on what we should eat daily.  Not sure if they have sodium info however they may link to ADA or AHA.  Also, look on the NLEA (nutritional label) on pretty much any food you have in your house.  They give daily values or percentages based on 2000 and 2500 calories.  That will give you the recommended daily allowance.

Best regards!

Just remember...

You're legs are longer than theirs are!!  You'll have to take fewer strides than they will.  And how awesome that you're rising to the challenge!  How fun!  And they will remember this for the rest of their lives.
