Who knew?

Well, the leaf turned brown. LOL  I had good intentions but they just fell by the wayside when life got in the way.  I know, excuses...excuses.  But I don't have any more time for those.  Tomorrow is my first day with my new trainer.  See, I have this "great" perk at my workplace.  We have a gym that we can use free of charge.  They even have personal trainers (FREE!!!).  But I haven't used it.  I have worked here for 12 years now and been in that building (it's in a separate building) a total of 5 times.  But last week I walked in and signed a contract to work with a personal trainer for 8 weeks.  I work with her 1 day a week and promise to work out 2 other days of the week on my own.

What caused this change?  I guess you would need to understand my childhood.  I was an athlete.  I played baseball.  Not softball, baseball from the time I could walk until I was 13 and my Dad thought I was a little too developed to play with the boys anymore.  Then I switched to softball.  I throw really hard and I hit hard, can't run worth a darn but then again never could (nickname was molasses in High School ).  I also played volleyball but softball and baseball were really my sports.  I played at University when I went away to school.  I only stopped when I was out of school and couldn't find a team anymore.  Then I found my church league.  It wasn't competitive but it was playing so I was happy.  Then I had my youngest daughter and they disbanded the coed leagues and since then I have been doing nothing.  That was 5 yrs ago.  This summer I received an offer from an aquaintence to play on a competitive team!  I was excited but not really worried that I could do it because, well I always could before.  WRONG!  I tried practicing one time and quickly realized that I am so out of shape that I wouldn't be able to play.   So I made the decision to start now in getting back into shape and losing weight.  Maybe this decision will stick since I am doing it for me this time instead of someone else.

The turning of a new leaf.

Well, I am at day 1 of this journey.  How's it going so far?  I did eat a 280 calorie Healthy Choice meal for lunch.  Of course I have also been nursing that 44 oz of Coke that I bought this morning before work all day.  So I would say all in all it is about 50/50.
I would love to blame all my weight problems on everyone else but I can't.  It's me.  Plain and simple.  I'm lazy.  I don't get up and move anymore.  I really like tv.  I really like to read.  These are not activities that you can usually do while moving around or taking a hike through the neighborhood.  Yes I have hypothyroid and extremely low Vitamin D levels so that makes me feel crummy but honestly that really isn't any excuse.  I was an athlete all through my childhood/teen/college years.  I got really used to being able to eat anything that I wanted (which usually includes something fried or something in the cheese food group ).  I was never thin but I was healthy and not obese.  Then came college graduation and marriage and then babies...next thing you know the only thing I want to do is take the night and sit quietly in front of the tv or sit quietly reading a book.  I guess quiet is the key word there.
Here is my goal.  I would like to lose 82 pounds by Thanksgiving.  I currently own a Wii fit and will start doing the aerobics and yoga exercises at the very least 3 times a week.  I also have access to a full gym (free of charge) through my workplace.  I need to start utilizing this resource.  If only I could remember where I left my gym badge!
