Before After

Week 1 Results

It's the end of week 1 and so far I am winning by a landslide against my husband.  Thank you PMS!!!!!  I lost 6.4 pounds.  My old WW meeting leader would have said, "Now, how many of those pounds were fat?" and I would have said, "No more than 2!" and she would have said, "Good girl."

PMS hit me hard last Monday so my first time stepping on the scale I was very bloated.  Even so, I lost 2% more of my body weight than DH (I get to use that now!) so WOOHOO!!!  Kindle, here I come!

I have been very good with food this past week.  We only exercised 3 days because there were some real scorching hot days for us Washingtonians and not many people here have AC because it's usually cool and rainy.  If we worked out we'd run a serious risk of heat stroke, so it seemed like a fair excuse.

We took a friend to the Space Needle's Sky City restaurant, which is very expensive and fancy.  We all got fish and the nice thing about fancy restaurants is they keep your portions reasonable, even if it does cost several hundred $$$.  Then we went home and had Jello shots.  Best alcoholic drink on a diet for sure!  They taste great, too!

Speaking of Jello shots, there is a really funny diet book I want to recommend to anyone who might be interested.  It's called How to Eat Like a Hot Chick by Jodi Lipper and Cerina Vincent.  I would say that I agree with most of what they say.  It's a diet book, but it's not a diet plan.  It's just basic eating ideas and suggestions and I think it is a fun read for women who are on non-extreme, reasonable diets.  It's short and sweet.  Unlike this post. :p

Yay, the professional photos are done!!!  We will be getting all of them in color and black and white.  The next step is deciding which ones we want to enlarge for all our new wedding photo frames, and then get prints of everything for all our new albums.

I hope you like them, we are so excited!!!

On the diet-front, Mike and I are going to be hitting it hard starting tomorrow.  We have not been good with food but we do really well when we work together.  When he falls off the wagon I have a really hard time taking good care of myself, so I'm turning it into a competition.  As we all know, men tend to lose weight more quickly.  This is true for Mike, so this will really challenge me in a good way.

Follow Weight Watchers Flex program

Whoever loses the most percentage of their body weight by Christmas gets $300 to spend.

I have wanted a Kindle since they came out so now I am motivated!

Married Woman

So I'm Mrs. Marx now!  Yay!  The wedding was PERFECT.  It far exceeded my expectations and everyone had a great time.  It went so smoothly!  We went to the DoubleTree and had a very nice penthouse suite that night.  The next day we went to Maui and stayed it an exquisite top floor center condo in Kihei, right on the ocean.  We stayed there for 5 days and did all kinds of fun things.  The aquarium, snorkeling, helicopter ride over Haleakala and the rainforest, the drive to Hana and the famous "pools", the drive to Haleakala's peak, one of the best luaus the island has to offer...  Then we went to the Big Island for a couple days and saw the volcano and went to another luau.

2 Days Left!!!!

I am so freaking excited I can barely contain myself!!!!  I'm getting married on Sunday!  I have been really nervous to be in the spotlight but we had the rehearsal and dinner last night and ever since then I've been feeling pretty good.  I get to walk down a spiral staircase and meet my dad at the bottom.

The one thing that I have been really nervous about is that I won't have any control and that everything is going to be done while I'm tucked away in the bride's dressing room.  I'm the type of person who likes to plan and be in control of things, but I'm starting to accept that there are trustworthy people taking care of it all.

Tomorrow my girls and I are going to get mani/pedi's and from there just relax.  In 2 days we'll be at the venue doing the wedding thing and then Mike & I will be off in a limo to a beautiful mountain-view suite at the Doubletree Hotel, and then off to Maui & the Big Island for 8 days!  Soooooo excited!!!

I still haven't lost any weight so I think I've discovered something new about myself:  If I am told I have to lose a certain amount of weight within any time frame, I won't do it.  Must be some psychological defiance inside my subconscious.  Oh well, the dress fits so whatever.

Less Than 3 Weeks!

It's less than 3 weeks and I will be a married woman.  Crazy stuff!  Things have been pretty good this summer.  I have been maintaining my weight forever but the dress still fits so it doesn't matter too much.  School got out in a very smooth manner and ever since then I have been working very hard on the finishing touches of wedding planning.  We have almost everything finished and paid for including the honeymoon, all of which adds up to more than we had originally wanted which was around $10,000.

Bachelorette Party:  I had a non-traditional bachelorette party and that is what made it so great.  My sister and friends kidnapped me and took me on the Kingston ferry, the whole time joking about how they were taking me to the "Scandinavian Fair" or out camping with the bears.  Seriously, when I'm sitting on a ferry bound for Kingston, where else could they be taking me?  So we were driving out in the boonies when I saw this big building.  Turns out it was the Clearwater Casino, which I'd never heard of before (probably because it's out in the boonies).  I love casinos and this was a very nice one.  They even reserved a gorgeous suite on the water with a jacuzzi and a HUGE private deck out back that led down to the pool and hot tub.  We had lots of booze and lots of slot machines, so it was a blast.

Mike's bachelor party is this weekend.  It will be just him and his best man out at Vegas, so I hope they have fun... But not too much fun!

Penny, our ferret and best pet ever, died on Sunday.  She was probably about 7 years old and her health had been deteriorating for a while now.  I am having a hard time getting over it.  We are planning on donating her cage and other things to the shelter where we adopted her.  I'm not sure if it's because I miss her so much or what, but I thought it might be nice to adopt another one.  Mike says we can either get a new ferret now, or get a dog later when we get a house, but not both.  That is a tough choice.  Ferrets behave like cute little puppies all their lives but they don't live nearly as long.

I hope things are good for all of you and thank you for checking in on me!

The Past Month

It's almost been a month since my last post.  No worries!  Nothing is wrong.  Things are pretty darn good right now.  School is almost over.  There are 6 1/2 instructional days left, plus some finals days.  My program doesn't give final assessments so I have to figure something out for the students.

I had my first wedding shower this past Saturday.  It was wonderful.  Mike's mom is a really good hostess.  I got to meet most of her sisters (she has 9) and also Mike's dad's sisters (I met 3 of them but there's more).  Large family!  There were a TON of gifts, most from our registries, so that was exciting.

Diet-wise I am firmly maintaining.  I'm going to have to live with that and I'm just happy that I'm not gaining.  Working out and eating well on the weekends have been the two biggest problems for me so I am constantly working at it, doing ok, then falling off the wagon, and then trying again.  This week I ditched The Firm for a while to do some basic elliptical training because it requires no brain power.

I hope everyone is seeing progress.  If not, keep working at it!  It's better to keep trying than to completely let it all go.

Sorry

I'm sorry I have been gone for so long.  I have been depressed and haven't felt the desire to do much of anything besides read each night.  I am continuing to maintain or "gain lose gain lose" and I have been beating myself up over it.  Mike is supporting me and trying to help me be successful by having us create some rules for both of us to follow.  That will probably start on Monday since I think I'm not 100% ready to feel deprived during our 2 Mother's Day celebrations this weekend.  I'll just try not to go overboard like I always do.

Work has been stressful and tiresome.  Everyone is ready for summer break so at least I know I'm not the only one ripping my hair out.  I haven't exercised in a week, either.  The endorphines would probably aid my mental health more than those Mike-a-ritas I've been drinking.

I hope all of you are doing well and having successes!  I'll try to check in on you after I post this. :)

The Ram

Has anyone ever been to The Ram?  They are yet another company like The Cheesecake Factory who won't give out nutrition information.  And it's no wonder, because I ate a monster burger on Sunday and it left me feeling yucky for the next 24 hours.  I had a BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger which is exactly what is sounds like, plus it has Canadian bacon.  I also had steak fries.  So was I surprised when I gained a pound?  Nope.

Mike is requesting that I stop buying ice cream because he always goes overboard with it.  I scoop out a half-cup every night and it signals to me that my day is over.  Mike takes the whole bin and just eats out of it until he feels like stopping.  I think it might be good for both of us to stop eating ice cream, though.

My wedding invitations are here!  My mom and sister and I are getting together on Sunday to put them together and address them.  Last week I put all of the party favors together (Personalized Hershey Kisses in little white shimmer bags) and we paid the venue off completely.  We also have our honeymoon all planned out and reserved through a good travel agent.  We're going to Maui for 5 days and The Big Island for 3 days.

Let me tell you, it is a lot of money for a wedding.  Our wedding is a cheap one and it's still going to cost over $10,000.  I am so grateful for the support we have from our parents, though.

Skinny Bitch

I lost a couple pounds overall in the past 2 weeks.  Yay for me!  I'm finally at a total of 5.3 pounds lost since January.  It took friggin' 3 and a half months to lose 5 pounds.   But whatever, it's all good.

I took my wedding dress to a well-known and loved seamstress on Monday so it's in her hands now.  I'll get it back in June.

This week is spring break and it has been super-busy so far.  I am taking it easy at home, though, so if I don't want to work out I am allowing myself to take a short grace period.  I spent all day yesterday running errands, cleaning around the apartment, etc.  Then I made dinner.  I finally got to sit down and read a book at about 6:30.  Oh boy, just wait until I have kids, right?

I hope you are all having successful weeks!

Book Talk (read only if you're interested)

Has anyone read the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin?  I bought it yesterday and am about 1/3rd of the way through.  I agree and disagree on a lot of what they are saying.  Organic, natural foods are truly the best things you can put in your body in comparison to all this processed junk, which I do eat, unfortunately.  I agree that any kind of soda isn't good for you but I still drink a can or two of Diet Whatever each day.  Call it a vice.  I agree that coffee isn't good for you even though I have a couple cups every work-morning and am seriously thinking about stopping (because I don't think I'm that addicted).

I strongly beleive that humans are omnivors which is why we have a mixture of flat teeth and K-9's (not to mention our mouths aren't made up of all molars).  I have no problem with vegetarians, especially with all these horrifying stories I'm reading about treatment of animals in the process of animal slaughtering.  It makes me want to throw up.  I just think the authors were wrong when they tried to say that we are biologically made to not eat any meat at all.

I'm not sure what I think about giving up dairy.  I'd like to hear a counterpoint about why it could be a necessity in a healthy human diet.

WI

I weighed in on the scale this week both on Monday and Wednesday mornings.  I was so not happy with either of them that I didn't bother to record them.  I know, so irresponsible.  I pretty much stayed the same yet again.  Maybe Shelley was right, my body is happy here.  It isn't an unhealthy weight for my height but I don't feel happy with it mentally, either.  Next week I vow to record my weight and take my body measurements!!!  At least the tape measure usually gives me good results each month.

Sorry I haven't been around.  My list of wedding "to do's" just seems to get longer and longer.  We ordered our invitations, RSVP's and Thank You Cards last night, and all the party favors for the wedding tables.   On Monday I'm taking my dress to a seamstress to be hemmed, then we're meeting the photographer and florist at the venue to show them around.

I hope all of you are doing well!
