I lost a couple pounds overall in the past 2 weeks. Yay for me! I'm finally at a total of 5.3 pounds lost since January. It took friggin' 3 and a half months to lose 5 pounds. But whatever, it's all good.
I took my wedding dress to a well-known and loved seamstress on Monday so it's in her hands now. I'll get it back in June.
This week is spring break and it has been super-busy so far. I am taking it easy at home, though, so if I don't want to work out I am allowing myself to take a short grace period. I spent all day yesterday running errands, cleaning around the apartment, etc. Then I made dinner. I finally got to sit down and read a book at about 6:30. Oh boy, just wait until I have kids, right?
Has anyone read the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin? I bought it yesterday and am about 1/3rd of the way through. I agree and disagree on a lot of what they are saying. Organic, natural foods are truly the best things you can put in your body in comparison to all this processed junk, which I do eat, unfortunately. I agree that any kind of soda isn't good for you but I still drink a can or two of Diet Whatever each day. Call it a vice. I agree that coffee isn't good for you even though I have a couple cups every work-morning and am seriously thinking about stopping (because I don't think I'm that addicted).
I strongly beleive that humans are omnivors which is why we have a mixture of flat teeth and K-9's (not to mention our mouths aren't made up of all molars). I have no problem with vegetarians, especially with all these horrifying stories I'm reading about treatment of animals in the process of animal slaughtering. It makes me want to throw up. I just think the authors were wrong when they tried to say that we are biologically made to not eat any meat at all.
I'm not sure what I think about giving up dairy. I'd like to hear a counterpoint about why it could be a necessity in a healthy human diet.

congrats =)
i've heard people talk about that book and they seemed to kind of think the same way about it that you did...some good points but kind of extreme. =)
congrats on losing the 5. sometimes losing it slow makes it stay off longer anyway.
If you want to count it that way, I'm only down 3 lbs (actually 2.8) since the beginning of the year. This is not easy and I agree with the above poster that losing it slowly is better anyway because it means you're making small changes that you can live with versus drastic changes that will revert back to your old habits as soon as you reach "goal".
I borrowed Skinny B*tch from the library a while back and only skimmed through a bit before I decided their plan was not something that was going to work for me. For one thing, dairy is really impt to me in order to stay full and there is a lot of evidence that the healthy bacteria in yogurt is very good for digestion and stomach health. Not to mention the vitamin D and protein, which you can get from vegetable sources, but have to be way more vigilant to make sure you're getting enough for daily nutrition. Hey, some diets work for some people -- it just seems theirs is extreme for a number of reasons.
It gets harder to lose weight (IMHO) as we yo-yo it off. I know for me, when I first started "dieting" 3.5 years ago, I lost 25-30 lbs in 6 months, then I got lazy and gained it back. Losing those 25 lbs again took over a year, the next time.
I don't know if it is because I figured I may as well plan on slow and just live through it LOL!!
Let's see. Since January, I have lost 9.something, so not a lot ahead of you. I average what, 3 lbs a month..... gahhhhhhh!!
A couple of cups of coffee is not addiction! I think it's ridiculous that we dieters are forced to give everything up. Same thing with smoking. They all say you should give up that too. Well I don't think so. I need something for stress relief and even though smoking doesn't always work 100% at least it's something. Cuz if I can't drink beer then I need to have smokes. I think losing weight in the past used to be a hellava lot easier. Yeah, it sucks that you only lost 5 lbs since January. I feel for you there cuz it's the same with me. I start every month saying i ain't gonna drink but I end up doing it and it really just keeps setting me further and further back. that's why I just wanna do this grapefruit diet cuz I need a kick in the ass really bad. My emotions are basically making it hard for me to avoid beer but I just keep making excuses for why I can't avoid it.
On the loss!!!! I think you are doing awesome, espically when you look at the big picture of where you were a year ago.. :-)
On the book...let me bite my tongue some..lol I am a Christian and truly believe in eating meat. Jesus ate it and I am not better than him, if you know what I mean. I believe we were to eat natural real food, including meat, just not all these chemicals. But honestly I think this extra 150 pounds of fat is way worse on me than the food it self so I believe eveything in moderation.
You must be feeling good! Hopeuflly you had a wonderful spring break and are ready to get started back at work again!
Skinny Bitch was a bit too extreme for me. I stopped reading it when I got to the meat part. I can't go there...what can I say? I'm sorry, but no coffee? Whatever. A little ain't gonna hurt you. I do agree that alcohol & cigarettes are not for dieting, and that dairy & meat should be eaten in moderation. I'm all for organic, too, when I can get it. And water is a girls best friend. Yea, that book is just too, too, extreme. I don't need to be a Skinny Bitch. Nor do I want to be! Thats just my opinion.
Happy wedding planning!! You're doing great...keep it up!
