I Heart Coffeeeeeee

Last night was really really fun.  It didn't turn out the way it was supposed to but such is life.  Malia called on Friday and said that she and Tyler wouldn't be able to celebrate St. Patty's Day with us because they were going to a friend's birthday/St. Patrick's Day party.  She said she'd call on Saturday about seeing "300".  She never did so we didn't go see the movie.

That's ok because I got in some good exercise and we ended up going with my parents to the big casino they always go to.  I started off with a Tequila Sunrise and an Amaretto Sour.  Amaretto Sours are my signature favorites.  Then Jen gave me the tip of trying Capn and Diet Coke so I tried that.  FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.  Thank you Jen!!!  It is now my new drink.  It's really cheap on the WW points and tastes really good!

We had reservations at Black Angus but the men were too busy drinking beer and talking about Harleys that we ended up canceling and going to the casino buffet.  Waited in line for almost an hour just to get in.

I hadn't been to a buffet since high school people!!!  I think I handled it ok.  I got a decent amount of grapes and corn, a little bit of creole shrimp and one pork potsticker.  Dessert hurt me a bit.  Had one small piece of cherry pie, a little bit of cherry cobbler, a piece of chocolate cake, soft serve vanilla ice cream and a chocolate brownie.  Whoa, writing it down makes it look worse than it felt.

Stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down to 110.6 from a high of 113.6 for the week.  Here's my issue with weighing in every day.  When I see a number I am really happy with I make that an excuse to go out and eat something really unhealthy.  This is something I am going to try hard to learn from and stop doing.  Today, for instance, I am going to stay on plan and not binge like I have been doing in past weeks.

We probably won't be looking at condos today because we decided it is too early to get excited about anything.  We can't move out of the apartment until August.  For now it's just browsing.  I don't want to see something I love and then become disappointed that I can't even put in a bid.

Instead we might go with his parents out shopping.  Three out of the four of us love to shop and I'm hoping that Mike's mom can give me advice on getting a good coffee maker.  Here's what I'm looking for at the moment:

1)  Makes 1-4 cups - Since I'm the only one at home who likes coffee and don't want a single-cup maker.

2)  Programmable - So it will be ready for me when I finish getting ready for work in the mornings.

3)  Permanent filter - The kind that only needs to be replaced every year or two depending on how much you use it.

4)  Pause and Serve - So when I'm feeling impatient I can just get one cup's worth while it's still in the middle of brewing.

5)  Resonably Priced - Enough said?  $40-75 maybe.

Hopefully all of this is possible to find!  Next it's finding the right kind of coffee...

Cafetiere (coffee press)

Leeanne, we use a cafetiere and once you try coffee made in one, I don't think you'll go back to a filter machine of any type. Click here for full details of what they are and how to use them.

They are simple to use, make excellent coffee and are very inexpensive.

I have a

Delonghi.....Does everything you want and I think cost about $40.00, the only thing I don't like is the carafe is a little drippy.  Got mine at Target. The user ratings are super low on this model, mine is a little different, has a glass carafe for starters and there was no oil.  Has a permanent filter too. BONUS!  Good luck in your search.

hope ya find something you like

i can't help you on the coffee front as it's not something i've ever gotten into.  i love the smell of coffee shops and the atmosphere, but the taste is too bitter for me - so i go hang out and have tea or hot choc instead =)

on the food front, good for you for being cognizant of how the scale affects you and for and doing something to try to stop the pattern.  i am in the same boat.  i remember i used to see a low number and even though it was probably b/c i was dehydrated from alcohol or something equally unhealthy, i would use it as an excuse to eat a pint of ben n jerrys!  good thing i have stopped that as of recently...  i'm with you though on having a huge weakness for desserts.  that is totally my downfall at buffets - the prob is you just want to try a little of everything and the bites do add up.  however, it sounds like you did pretty well on the main course part, so once in a while it won't be a problem!  i haven't personally gotten up the guts to go to a buffet yet...

Haha!

Woah! I tried coffee once and never liked it since, my mom says thats a good thing since its easy to get addicted to! However, everyone that im friends with and family love Starbucks blends. I think if you drink coffee alot its kinda $$ to get all the time, but I have seen new adds for some new Organic coffee that is said to be good. Im not sure, I guess you just have to try alot of coffee out until you find one that you like. Don't you wish in times like these people would invent samples of the coffee before you buy it!

Anyways, im glad to here yuo had a nice St. Patty's Day! Sorry to hear the plans didn't go through, but it sounds like you had a nice time with the family! Oh Buffets can be very dangerous, especially DESSERTS! My weakness is sweets so anything good is on my tray. Thankfully, I stray away from it as much as possible! Its once in awhile so don't beat yourself over it.

Well, hopefully you find a coffee maker that you like! Have fun shopping!

Have a wonderful Sunday evening!

Hi lee lee

I am glad that the drink worked out for you.  wow..  it is good..  LOW CARBS!  ha ha ha  i am happy that you had fun..  wow.. 110!!  that is low...   what is your goal?  I am so happy that you are happy.  thank you for all your support!!!!  Love, Jen

Mine didn't go as planned, either

I was in a funky mood and didn't want to go out. Must be getting old! :)

Good idea to not get your hopes up on anything yet, but it can take a while, so don't wait too much longer..maybe start in May or June? It took us 2 months to find our house...we were waiting for houses to go on the market in this particular neighborhood and as soon as they were listed, we would rush right out. We made a bid on a different house and we lost it, so these things happen.

Ok, you're making me hungry here! Stop!

My husband is Scottish, too! Also, Norwegian.

Have a great week!

I'm with ya

I do the same thing with the scale.  I'm trying to ween myself down to once a week, the morning of WI.  I am tired of playing those games with myself!

I don't drink coffee, so I can't help you there.  Hope you find what you're looking for.

coffee maker

I have to second Tawa's recommendation of a coffee press--I hear them called French presses around here.  It's so good, and you can make tea using loose leaves in it as well.  Plus it's super portable--I take one on camping trips since all you need is pre-ground coffee and boiling water.
