Finding novel ways to use your talents makes you feel more competent and
results in a boost to your self-esteem.

I believe we all discover our talents when we try something new and succeed at it. Even if we failed the first time, we keep going until it becomes a talent within us.
Here on EP, a lot of us discover a talent in us when we start our journey of losing weight. We discovered that we can learn to control our portions, run 5 miles in 10 minutes, walk a marathon for a charity, become a fitness instructor at the gym, wake up at 4am to workout, to do strength training until it hurts, and most of all, reach our goals.
When you put your mind and heart into changing your lifestyle, you find things in you that you never thought you had! I believe this journey we are all on helps us find who we are and become a better person for the world and for ourselves.
I remember 2 years ago, I had this desire to learn how to knit. I didn't have anyone to show me and I was afraid to ask someone to teach me. I decided that I will learn how to do this on my own, so I found a book that teaches how to knit and bought the supplies I needed. I sat down and followed the instruction carefully and slowly. I practiced over and over until it became natural to me that I don't need to look at the instructions anymore. Each time I learned a new stitch, I felt so proud of myself! It was a great feeling and I kept going. There were several bumps on the road, but I kept thinking about that great feeling I had when I figured out the stitch in knitting.
This is the same way when we learn new exercises and different food in our diet. If we look at this journey as developing new talents, it pushes us to want to do more.
I thought to share you what I will be making for my friend for her upcoming birthday in February.
My friend always wanted me to make her a shawl, so this is what I will be making her. This will also be a new thing for me to do lace knitting, but I feel confident enough to make it for her.
I hope everyone is healthy and well this weekend.

Hi
Good morning,
I can't see your beautiful tree. You may want to add it to your photos right click the picture and then copy the ep link into the picture icon. If that doesn't work then let me know. I love your post today very inspiring. I am not sure how I feel about my weight loss journey. I mean I am excited and all just not sure if I need to keep going or STOP. I heard people say that cords to fit you tighter etc. Maybe going shopping will help me put my weight into perspective. I was a size 14 prior to weight loss I weighed 155 pounds all butt lol and now at 135 I don't want to settle for a size 12 its like I didn't really accomplish much, I mean I know I did but its hard to explain. Anyhoo get your Christmas tree up on your blog so I can see it. oh and the shawl looks great. do you make your kids clothes as well? that is way cool.
that shawl is totally cute your friend will love it. I also cannot see the picture. I use to knit when I was like 9 my granny taught but after she passed I never tried again. Not sure why. Your blogs are always so inspiring and today I remember that just like other activities in my life I will get better as I go. I know sometimes I feel the weight I have to lose is overwhelming but the idea to keep the weight on is unbareable.
Great post. It's sometimes easy to focus on what we still have to work on rather than being proud of ourselves for how for we've come. I never really thought about it as discovering a talent but it's so true. Thanks for the encouragement.
OMG...that shawl is gorgeous! I just ordered a chenille wrap(shawl) and I can't wait for it to come. I'm going to use it in place of a coat on certain occasions! My sister tried to teach me how to knit and it was a total disaster! She had to cut the yarn off the needles, I had it so tangled she couldn't even unravel it! LOL! We still laugh about it! That is a beautiful item and I know your friend will love it!
Hey I was just finishing adding the names of all the nice people (like you) who came by and commented on blog last week....so I will remember to check on them....I'm so glad I did....I loved this blog and love your quotes...thought provoking and inspirational.
I'm glad you liked my story!! Thanks so much for all of your kind words. I'm back from my trip and I just wanted to say hi real quick! Hope all is well!
