A Long Weekend

... of packing.  Yea!  I have packed my books and cds, and hope to have the dining room and garage done by the end of the weekend.  I wonder if it will help me in my quest for a lower weight?  Oh well, it must be done... and it does help me get lots of lifting in.

I was happy to have lost another pound this week.  Walking the dogs each morning really helped.  That, and being stressed and too busy to snack much.  I have 9.5 more to go to hit my wedding weight a year ago (the honeymoon added 15 lbs.  - I've heard of the 'Freshman 15', but not this! lol), and I hope to have it all back off by the 1st anniversary at the end of the year.

Wishing you all a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Changes

I had a wonderful trip to Myrtle Beach last week.  While I ate out every night, I worked it off by walking 6-7 miles on the beach each morning.  I also got in tons of swimming with my sister, so I ended up losing a pound on vacation!  How cool!

DH had a job interview this morning, and his company is transferring him to the west coast.  By Oct. 1st.  So, in the next 4 weeks,  we need to pack up the house, arrange for the movers, and ship the vehicles.  In the midst of all of this, we need to head out for a 1 week house hunting trip.  Arg!  Talk about pressure.

On top of this, I'll be studying for the CA Baby Bar, which is Oct. 23rd.  Yikes!  So, to minimize the stress, I'm planning... no, vowing to continue to workout at 6am as usual, so I'll be mentally capable of getting through the rest of this.  The nice thing is that by keeping in shape, I'll be less likely to injure myself with the heavy packing boxes.  (Crossing fingers here.)

I guess it keeps me from being so sad about the end of summer.  I love summer, swimming, being outdoors.  Fall has always depressed me, as it means winter is on its way.  Now I'll be headed to a mild climate, near the beach.  I guess I can't complain!!!

Stress Activity

I am amazed that it has been 2 weeks since I've written in my blog!  There has been a lot going on here at home, all good, but it is stressful, nonetheless!  DH is up for a transfer to CA, now he has to pick between 2 jobs, in 2 different locations.  Will we be moving to busy LA?  Or to a small quaint town on the central coast of CA?  We won't know for a few more weeks... we might not end up moving at all... who knows?

So in the midst of this, I've made a conscious decision - instead of stress eating, I'm going with stress activity!  I've been keeping myself busy with walking, running, weight lifting, yard work, etc.  Rather than gain 15 pounds while waiting to find out where my life is heading (literally), I'll work off a few pounds!

Rocking away the weight

Last night was great - I went to see a Poison concert with my stepson.  It was a rainy night, so it wasn't too crowded.  We had excellent seats, and the music rocked!  I danced for hours, and was so tired this morning, I could barely move.

Of course, the dogs didn't care, so I got out of bed and walked them a few miles, then got out of the oppressive humidity and into the mall for 3 miles.  I need to remember how fun it is to dance, when I'm not in the mood to 'exercise'.

On a more frustrating note, I cannot seem to make myself get back to using the BowFlex.  I love doing the workout, and how I feel after using it, especially weeks later, when the toning shows in my arms, on my back, etc.

I think the issue is that we live in a Cape Cod style home, and the BowFlex is upstairs in a spare bedroom.  It's fine first thing in the morning, but is 80 by 11 am.  Maybe I should use it first?  But then it'll be 90 outside, and too hot to run.  Hmmm...

Daily Routine

I've always preferred to get my exercise in first thing in the morning, for two major reasons.  I get it out of the way, before life gets in the way, and it also allows me to shower just once.

This week, due to the heat, I've been walking/running the dogs at 6am, so we're back by 7 or so, and able to beat the heat.  This morning, I slept til 6:15, when DH woke me up to tell me that Moose was driving him nuts, and that he made him get off the computer.  I had to explain that Moose was used to being out on the trail by that time, and was just trying to get us going!

So, by 6:45, DH and I were out walkin' the doggies, missing most of the heat, but glad that Moose insisted we stick to our routine.  He's smart enough to know what's good for us!

New Shoe Update

Well, I finally wore them out on the trail, after two weeks of just mall walking them.  They were great!  I'm still going to get the arch supports for them, but even without them, I had a pain free walk/run.

The dogs have been joining me on my outside walks, and I'm easing my way back into running.   Bailey is 17 months now, and old enough to speed up without fear of damaging her joint growth.  This week, I'm jogging every third song, and she's keeping up nicely.  Staying at her level is definitely keeping me from going out there and hurting myself.  :)

Next week, I'll hop back into the C25K program, probably at Week 5 or 6.

Technology

Technology is wonderful, when I use it correctly.  I went for my morning walk with the dogs, and decided to use my Nike for my iPod Nano.  I haven't used it for a month, as my foot problems prohibited me from running, and that's when I have used it.

This morning, however, I figured it would be the perfect way to determine exactly how far I was walking on our loops on the wooded trails.

Great idea, poor execution.  I got to the park (a 5 minute drive) with 2 very excited dogs, only to find that I had neglected to attach the Nike component, onto the iPod.  Oops!

We had a wonderful walk, despite my lack of documentation for it.  The dogs loved sniffing the deer trails, and I got a great workout up and down hills, hopping over tree roots, all while listening to my favorite tunes.  :)

Upon returning home, I attached the component, so my  iPod is ready for tomorrow's walk, and will try again.  Wish me luck!

Decisions, Decisions

Well, I walked in the mall for 3.5 miles this morning, and the new shoes seem to be working fine!  I was very relieved, as I woke up with new heel pain, from wearing flip flops recently.  I know better, with my feet.

Anyway, now I must decide whether to buy the $45 arch supporting insoles at the shoe store, or go back to the Dr, and get prescription orthotics created.  Those run $550, and I'm not yet sure how much, if any, the insurance will cover.  Ugh.

Because the temp ones the Dr gave me sliced into my feet, I'm not all that confident that he'll be able to fit the permanent ones well.  So now I get to figure which way to go.

Getting There

Well, I have taken off some of the vacation weight.  It has been a rough road, as my foot has been getting worse.  I haven't been running in almost 6 weeks, but the temporary orthotics the podiatrist gave me were killing my foot, making things worse.

This morning, I bought yet another pair of running shoes, in an attempt to get back to normal feet.  These feel wonderful, and I'm hoping they'll be the answer.  Sadly, it's pair number 5 since Saucony stopped making their old Shadow, and my 2 pairs finally bit the dust.

So after a bit more rest for the foot, I'll be back on track, and able to run, I hope!  At least I wasn't out running while the temps hit 100 this week!

Post Vacation Blues

I admit it, I gained a ton on vacation.  Well, not a ton exactly, but 5.5 pounds in a week is too much!  Much of it might be water gain from traveling, but it's not falling off upon my return as I'd wished.

I did have a terrific time, though.  DH and I went to Santa Barbara, CA for a week, and got to our dentist, my hairdresser and other necessities in life.  :)   We woke up early and hiked 4 miles each morning, though one day we walked 7 miles on the beach instead.  It was heaven.  We also got to kayak twice.  I LOVED it, and want to find a place to rent one here, once I find water clean enough to float on.

So I'm back to my previous weight loss plan.  Eat healthy, exercise more.  And water, water, water!
