Before After

Reminded of a dream

I was reading Chargail's blog today about compact/compacters......and it reminded me of what Bill and I often talk about for retirement dreams.....we talk about building a log home in the piney woods of east Texas.....and being off the grid and at least semi self sufficient.....think back to the hippie communes of the 60's.....without the free love stuff goin' on.  I know it may seem a little crazy.....but it sounds wonderful to me.....all this stress we are feeling as a collective nation over the economy and everything else....can not be healthy!

Sounds great!

That sounds wonderful to me too!

Yea!!

Yea, it does sound wonderful to me too!!  Wouldn't it be great if there was no such thing as money, and jobs!!!  Ok, I need to wake up. hehe

Self-sufficiency!

Man!  Would I like to be off the grid, too!  I wish I could adapt some solar power and some wind power into my home.  I've been doing some searches on those lately.  I'm afraid that we might be in for some hard and expensive times ahead and want to be prepared just in case!

Might I ask how old you are?  In your pictures, you look so young!!!   (I'm as old as the hills I live in.   Heh-heh))

Later, Kim!

You Asked

I live in a rural area called "Pipestem."  It was named that by American indians, in the past, because they would make pipes out of a reed that grows somewhere around here.  It's near a town called Princeton, which is near a city called Bluefield.  They are all near the southern border of the state.

I'm 64.  I wonder if I'm the oldest woman at EP?   Got any idea?

Hahaha!

The picture in your post cracks me up.  I dont know why but it just struck me as funnny.  But I totally understand.  DH and I always dream about finding a way to not be so relient on those around us.  I mean we pay our own bills, work hard at our decent jobs, etc. but with the economy going down we are always thinking at some point it wont matter how hard we work, how good of an employee we are, how responsible we are with our $.  Hopefully it never gets to that point!  Still it would be so nice to have the security of total self sufficientcy.  So cheesey but I love the song Country Boy Can Survive (gotta love Hank Jr)  There is a certain pride and security in knowing my DH can 'skin a buck and run trout line'  and my 10 yrs of greenhouse experience doesnt hurt either
