Before After

...Or Maybe Not

My quad felt much, much better by the end of the day yesterday so I headed to the gym after work to give it a whirl. And it worked!!! Yippee! I ended up running 5 miles and had zero problems with my quad. Of course, I made sure to really stretch it out, but so far, so good.

Now, I am not even sure if I should keep my appt with the doc on Friday, because hopefully, the "strain" seems pretty minor, plus the pain is gone and the soreness is minimal.

Unfortunately, I did not get up early this AM to work out because I really wasn't sure if I should give the quad a day of rest after working it yesterday. I think I will see how it feels by the end of the day, and most likely, I will be back at the gym tonite. :)

But that is IT! Tomorrow, I am getting up early to run. I *really* *really* have to do this in the mornings before work. It just makes my life and my family's so much easier if I do it in the AM.

Sigh. I hate that I am not a morning person.

Uh-Oh... A Bump

I hope I just haven't derailed myself. Sunday morning while at church (kneeling, no less LOL), I noticed that my left quad muscle was tight and a little sore. Well it went away until later in the day when I heard my baby cry in the basement. I knew it was a pain cry, and even though my DH was downstairs, my mommy instinct kicked in and I sprinted to the stairs and ran down to comfort her.

Oh. My. God. The PAIN! I really must have strained my quad muscle. I was struggling to stand up thru the pain while trying to comfort my daughter. It was a nightmare, and it still is very sore.

So needless to say, I did not work out yesterday. I wanted to give my muscle a day to rest. It feels MUCH better today, but I am now afraid to work out in the morning while the muscle is cold. I don't want to cause any more damage. So my goal for the week just got flushed down the toilet. I am hoping that the muscle will be much better by the end of the week so that I can make the morning workouts next week's goal. I am stilll going to stick to exercising 6 days and I have an appt. with a sports medicine doc on Friday. So that means, I will be working out today after work, which really throws a wrench into my afternoon schedule... but what can you do huh? I am not sure I will be running, maybe the elliptical or the bike, or walking.

Aye yi yi. What a mess!!!

Finally Got My New Scale!

FINALLY!  Went to Bed, Bath & Beyond last nite, jumped on all the scales, and bought the one where I weighed the least! LOL!! Not really... But these scales are FANCY! Some will check your water weight to determine if you are hydrated enough. And the one I got will measure your BMI for you and keep track of your progress. Wild!

Either way, I was just psyched this morning when I jumped on it and it showed 195.6. WHEEEEE! I was actually pretty surprised since I am about to start TOM next week, and my eating habits have shown this week. I have been ravenous!!! Ready to pounce on anything and everything. I polished off 2 giant pieces of the most delicious DiGiorno pizza Friday nite. Moo.

I don't know why the scale holds such power over me (hell, over most of us). My clothes are loose, I've gone down in sizes. I've lost 16 inches in 2 months, yet if that scale doesn't go down, I'm in the foulest of moods. ??? Why do we measure so much by that damn scale?!?!? It's so frustrating, and I am really trying to let go of it, but it's hard. Harder even than getting up to work out. Isn't that CRAZY?

As for goals for this week, it's going to be working out in the morning before work. Normally I race home and do it before my kids get home, but it's just too stressful, and sometimes I can't get out early because of meetings. It really needs to be in the morning, first thing before my day begins. So this week's goal? 6 days of exercise in the morning before work.

Soy Crisps are the Devil!

Seriously, these little buggers are the most delicious thing EVER, but they are so carbo-loaded and full of flour, that I really should stop even buying them! But I feel like I can't, because they are truly my only processed "snack." (I get the white cheddar ones in this giant bag from Costco.)

And they really are not THAT bad for you. Low in fat, carbs, sugar, but 2g fiber, and 7g soy protein in a serving (I think one serving is 1 WW point). Of course, who can eat one serving?? I could finish half the bag easily. Everything I eat is primarily fresh--veggies, fruit, meat. This is really the only "throwback" to the old me. And when I read it that way, the smart thing to do is stop buying them, because I really don't want to go back to the old me.

Time to give the soy crisps the ole' heave ho...

So Welcome to One-Derland

I kind of glossed over this 2 posts ago. But this is a BIG DEAL! And it was verified yesterday morning when I jumped on the scale at the fitness center. It was 198.3--WOO-HOO! So I am officially out of the 200s and into the 100s. I am so excited and thrilled about my progress. The trick is to not get complacent and to remember that I have a LONG way to go!

Measurements Day

Today was the day to retake my measurements. Last time I took them was March 10th (I restarted on this weight-loss effort on March 1). All I can say is WOW!! What a difference (almost) 2 months has made! With measuring every major section of my body, I have lost 16.25 inches!!! UNREAL! I feel like I can finally see a difference and I can absolutely feel it in my clothes. Everything is baggy and I am attempting to shrink all my pants so I can eek out a few more months wear out of them before I have to buy new ones. LOL!

On a eye-opening note though, I also had my fitness assessment this morning. Really, it should be called the fat assessment because that's really all it was. Whip out the calipers and measure all my rolls. Ick. Well at least it was a nice kick in the pants reminding me that I am FAR FAR FAR from over. I have a loooonnnngggggg way to go.

But I am committed. Like I said, this has to be a lifetime thing. I can't think "oh I'll drop the weight in a few months and then go back to eating crap." Because then I will be right back where I started. I need to remind myself that the weight I've lost, I've lost. It's gone. It's never coming back. I won't let it find me ever again.

I Don't Believe It!

I jumped on my old crappy scale--that's still in the garage left over from my garage sale--and the scale was down 3 pounds to 197!!! UNREAL! I am not quite sure how or why considering that last nite I completely oinked out on the world's best spin dip! DH and I had a date night last night for the first time in forever so we went to our favorite Irish pub. I wasn't too bad, eating 1/2 a chicken sammy and substituting the fries for veggies. But I am dead sure the cheesy spinach dip didn't help! Ha!

But maybe it did!! LOL! Who knows! But I'm not going to question the wisdom of the scale, but accept it. :) And make sure I get to the gym today for my run!

It's a Momentous Day!

For 2 reasons. First and foremost, I ran over 5 miles today!!! Yes, you read that right. I have to say it again. I ran over 5 miles today! WHOO-HOO!! My running is totally falling in line and I am addicted to it. I love it. So exhilarating knowing that my body is performing at this level and working so HARD! It's an incredible feeling, completely undescribable!!

Next, even though I have been kicking ass and taking names in the eating department--at least for the past 2 weeks--I started my Phen today. I took 1/2 pill just to see how it would affect me, and so far so good. I figure I will do 1/2 dose for a few days so get used to it. I so hope that it will help ramp up my weight loss. Because even though my eating has been perfecto and I've been a running fool, the scale doesn't seem to be budging. :( I know I have lost inches because my clothes are all baggy, but I want that scale DOWN!!

Onward I keep chugging though...

2 More Down!

Did my protein flush and flushed 2 more pounds down the drain! Whoo-HOO! This is now the hard part for me. Keeping the momentum, and making sure I stay "on plan". What is key for me is bringing my own food for lunch and not eating at one of the campus' restaurant/cafes. Their food is ultra yummy, but who knows how "legal" it is! LOL!

I did treat myself to lunch there today, and I was very good. I got the protein 2 veggie sides. Chicken (but I should have gotten the other chicken as it had more protein and I am now hungry--doh!) with tomatoes, onions, cucs, shrooms, and lettuce. I think I have filled up my veggie portion for the day, as I had cucs and celery for bfast. I only had a small part of the moz cheese and the soy sauce, and instead focused on the balsamic vinaigrette--YUM! And I did eat the delish crostini for my carb for the day. Totally worth it!

For dinner, I will make sure to have lots of protein--chicken with lettuce and the no-fat/no-sugar balsamic dressing. Ok, I'm drooling now.

Of course, I better eat it early. I am meeting some girlfriends at Starbuck's where it will be hard to say no to a yummy coffee drink and biscotti!!

Time to Get a Partner

WOOT! Just found out my hubby wants to do this with me. So he will be joining me on this little journey. LOL! Of course, he would like to drop like 20 pounds, and that is really truly all he needs to drop. Chump!

But I think we are going to make this a friendly competition--like the Biggest Loser. And have some incentives, ie prizes, for reaching certain goals.

Can't wait! Now just to pin him down to a firm start date...
