So, after Outback Steakhouse, a couple trips to Carls Jr. and a funnel cake, you'd think I wouldn't be surprised that the scale showed a gain rather than a loss, right?
Well, IT DIDN'T!!!! Down 3.4 more pounds! YAY Go Katie! Go Katie!
We had a substitute Weight Watchers leader this morning. She was pretty cool. She didn't make me appreciate my current leader any more or less, so I think that's a good thing. lol She put up a recipe on the wall that was really yummy. (We had it for lunch today) Me, being the incredibly intelligent person I am, snapped a picture of the recipe while everyone else wrote it down. lol
Y'all need to head over to my friend Tara's blog (link under my friend's list) and tell her she's not allowed to skip another meeting because I'm lonely sitting there at 6:45 on a Saturday morning. An old lady took pity on me this morning and tried to strike up a conversation with me. Then, another lady came and sat next to me, but I think I must have smelled or something because she only sat there for about five minutes before getting up and sitting somewhere else. Okay, so really she just saw a friend she wanted to go sit next to...or at least that's what I'm telling myself. It really wasn't because I'm so fat that my arm kept touching hers because the chairs were so darn close together. Talk about uncomfortable!
So, we went to the fair last night. I stayed away from the deep fried death...except the funnel cakes. lol The price of the funnel cake (almost TEN DOLLARS!!!!) almost kept me from buying. Note the word almost. I did feed quite a bit of it to my kids though. Well, until the strawberry center because Sera is allergic to strawberries and it's not fair for everyone else to be able to continue eating when Sera can't. Or, at least that's how I justified eating all of the center part of it.
I'm really curious as to what a deep fried twinkie tastes like and how soon after eating it you have a heart attack. I think I may be willing to test that out.
Okay, so I've been so focused on food lately, that I've left out a very important part of weight loss. At least, they say it's important. I think it just makes you sweaty and gross. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Yes, you know what I'm talking about...that dreaded E word. Man, I hate that stuff. I have, however, decided that from now on, if I'm not buying bottled water, I will be walking to and from the grocery store. I make a ton of trips to the grocery store and it's less than a mile away. It's a HUGE waste of gas. I can walk it. I don't want to, but I can. lol
Oh man, I forgot about the giant pretzel and the handful of kettle corn I had last night. I figured I should add those in since I was thinking about them.
I recently discovered a vlog on youtube from this guy who calls himself the "raw model." I enjoy watching his videos...and not only because he's hot. lol He's building a permaculture in...Wisconsin? No, I think it's Minnesota. What is a permaculture? Well, I'm glad you asked! Actually, I only know a tiny bit about it, most of it learned from Wikipedia (goodness, I love that website). From what I've gathered, it's a self sustaining living environment. They are designed to allow you to live with little to no need for resources from the "outside world." Now, I'm not exactly sure how they go about getting toilet paper and such, so I imagine they have to go to the store for some things...well, unless you use cloth toilet "paper," but still...you need to get the cloth somewhere and unless you're going to go and grow your own cotton and stuff, the store is going to be needed. lol But anyways, it got me thinking about gardening and how much I hate not having a yard in which I can plant a garden. So, I made a list of things I would like to plant when I finally have a yard. Granted, apparently I'm going to need a HUGE yard, but whatever. lol So, here is the list of things I would like to grow on my HUGE plot of land that I'm going to somehow afford in California one of these days.
romaine lettuce
heirloom tomatoes
avacados
white nectarines
asian pears
blackberries
spinach
strawberries
cucumbers
bananas
squash
carrots
kale
chard
apples
plums
peaches
zucchini
rosemary
thyme
wheatgrass
basil
Those are the items we eat on a regular basis that I immediately thought of that I would like to no longer have to rely on the store for. I mean, how cool would it be to think, "Hmmmm, I need to make dinner," then go out in your yard and be able to pick all of the items you need for dinner right from your own organic garden? Awesome!
Oh, and I SO cannot wait to start composting! Am I weird?
Yesterday was a 100% raw day! Go me! Nori wraps for breakfast, nori wraps for lunch, and for dinner...wait for it....nori wraps! lol Okay, so it wasn't terribly varied, but the nori wraps do have a good deal of variety in them. lol I also had some various fruits throughout the day, then some organic, raw, vegan icecream for dessert! The icecream was SO good! It was made from young thai cocounut, cashews, strawberries, filtered water, vanilla bean and agave syrup. Yum!
I went to Jimbos last night and got some juice from their juice bar. All is made to order, juiced on the spot. Mine was organic celery base, organic apple, organic spinach, organic kale, organic parsley and organic ginger. It wasn't as good as I had hoped for, but it was still okay. The ginger gave it quite the kick! Allie really liked it. Her tongue was green by the time she was done drinking. lol She probably had about 1/3 of it. The rest of the kids each had a sip, then quickly shoved some of their vegan chocolate chip cookie in their mouth to get rid of the taste. lol I'm bound and determined to find a vegetable mix that I like.
Today is not going to be all raw. I had sushi for breakfast. I'm hoping the rest of the day will be raw though. I figure I can try to be about 75% raw for a while, then switch over to my 30 day raw challenge when I'm ready and I feel comfortable with it. I may start with the Friends and Families Biggest Loser contest (sign ups are open, by the way. You'll need to register to view the information, but it's worth it, I promise! Just go to http://www.friendsandfamilies.com/forums register, and find the "Bathroom Scale" board!)
I need to start packing hubby a lunch. He's been really down on himself about his weight lately. (He'd be so upset if he knew I was talking about it though, so shhhhhhhh!) I either make all of his food or he goes out to eat, so really, it's completely up to me to force him to eat healthy. lol If I make him the food, he'll eat it. So, I want to passively help him feel better about himself by making him foods he can take to work and eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (He works a lot :( )
I got this raw spirulina bar that I'm proabably going to try out today. I'll let you know how it is! The other day I tried this Rawma bar and it was yucky. :( I believe it was the carob quinoa bar. Ick.
Why is it that the majority of these posts are about how terrible I'm doing at my diet? Hmmm...you'd think I'd read them and think, "Hey dumbass...if there are more posts about eating food that is terrible for you than posts about eating well, you're probably not on a "diet." I never claimed to be incredibly intelectually gifted or anything.
Saturday, I went to the Wild Animal Park. I had a chicken breast, some corn and cornbread. Yes, I realize cornbread doesn't count as healthy just because it has corn in it. Heck, I don't think corn is all that healthy. lol I guess I should mention the super fatty ribs slathered in bbq sauce as well, eh? And the four sips of the Slush Puppy. I had never had one. I needed to at least taste it, right? Oh wait...what about the chicken nuggets and baked potato with fake butter and lowfat sour cream? Dang...at least it was lowfat, right? I also had a couple of nori wraps in the morning...supposedly to keep me from being so hungry at the park. Yeah, we all know how well that worked. I did do a TON of walking and drank a TON of water, thanks to the 110* heat! OMG, it was AWFUL!
So, anyways...what did I eat yesterday? Jamba Juice, Mango Mantra smoothie. Good for me! Yay! The bad thing about it, well, it was listed as a low calorie item. I should have realized low calorie meant fake sugar. I could taste it with my first sip. ICK! Seriously....isn't Jamba Juice supposed to be good for you? Since when is fake sugar good for you? It's sad what the majority of the population seems to believe. Of course, you don't see me writing that I threw it away immediately or anything...I spent like five bucks on that thing! Then...ummmm....you might not want to read this because...well....it's BAD!!! We went out to dinner for AllieGayle's first birthday. I could have SWORN she said...clear as day, "Mommy, I want to go to Outback Steakhouse and I want you to have a 9 oz filet mignon, but not the normal one, the CROWNED filet with a blue cheese crust on it, also a loaded baked potato, a TON of their DELICIOUS bread and butter, then a HUGE slice of their HEAVENLY cheesecake. Please do it for me, Mommy. It's my birthday!" Yes, I swear to you on that slice of cheesecake, that is EXACTLY what she said to me. How could I refuse her?
Good today though! A nori roll for breakfast, a nori roll for lunch and I think we're going to Jimbo's tonight (can I plug that place anymore?!!!??) and I'll eat something vegan and good for me (maybe even raw!) from their cafe, which could mean a full raw day for me today! :D I'm also going to have a nectarine, a banana and a peach throughout the day today for snacks.
Yesterday is behind me and I have the whole week ahead of me to do well! Wish me luck!
Oh, and say happy birthday to my one year old on Thursday!
So, I went to my Weight Watchers meeting this morning and weighed in. I was tempted to wear light weight capris or something just to fudge a bit since I KNEW I had been TERRIBLE this week, but I didn't. I went in my normal weigh in clothes. For those of you who weigh in regularly, do you wear the same thing every time you weigh in? I don't necessarily wear the same shirt every week, but I'm always in a t shirt and I wear the same jeans each week so I know they are adding the same amount of weight each week. I was only down .4 pound this week. I guess that's better than going up though, right?
Today is my husband's company picnic and the Wild Animal Park. They always have a HUGE amount of food and NONE of it good for you. I'm going to make myself a few nori wraps before we go so I won't be so hungry when we get there. We'll be doing a TON of walking, so that will be good exercise.
Oh, speaking of that, have you ever gotten one of those, "OMG, that hurts, that REALLY REALLY hurts, oh good f*** when is it going to go away? WHY THE HELL ISN'T IT STOPPING? PLEASE GOD MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!" cramps in your calf? I get them a lot when I'm pregnant, but not usually when I'm not pregnant. Well, this mornin, I woke up, stretched and BAM!!!! Cramp from hell! It just wouldn't go away!!!! The first time I got one was when I was 19 and pregnant with my first child. My mom saw me writhing and screaming in pain, grabbing my calf and she flexed my foot for me and it went away. Ever since she taught me that little trick, I've been pretty good at noticing they're coming on and stopping them. This morning though, I didn't even know it was coming and it wouldn't go away!!! I woke up half the house with my scream. You should have seen me...it was quite the sight, I'm sure. Me, bouncing and screaming and crying on my bed, my kids come running, wondering who's killing me...beautiful. My poor husband didn't know what the heck was wrong. It finally went away, but now I have a HUGE knot in my calf and it hurts to walk. Did I mention that the Wild Animal park is all hills? Oh, and FUN OF ALL FUN, it's supposed to get to be about 100* today and there is pretty much NO shade at all there! Sounds like a perfect day. The kids will love it though.
I'm supposed to go to the county fair next week. Do you know what they have there? Deep fried Twinkies, funnel cakes, deep fried Snickers, funnel cakes, deep fried chicken, funnel cakes, deep fried egg rolls, funnel cakes, deep fried death on a stick. FUNNEL CAKES!!!!! Did I mention funnel cakes? Can you tell I like those a little bit?
So anyways, that's where I'm at currently. Sign ups for the Friends and Families Biggest Loser Competition will open next week! You have to be a member to view the board and participate in the contest, but we're a fun bunch of gals! Come and join us! You can find us on the "Bathroom Scale" board!
One of the biggest problems I have with my "diet" is that the kids never seem to like what I make for myself to eat. They like junk. Okay, well, not junk, but not incredibly healthy foods...depending on your definition of healthy. My kids don't need to lose weight. It's good for them to get lots of good fats in their diets. They like their pasta, their rice, their baked potatoes. When those things are on my "no no" list, they complain. Here's the problem though. I have a TON of people to prepare food for. For those of you that don't know me, I have six kids. That's a lot of mouths to feed. lol
So, when I find something that I can eat that the kids RAVE about, I can't help but share!! So, here you go...Karen Knowler's Favorite Nori Rolls:
I made them just like she did and my kids LOVED them! They came back asking for more! Caitlin (my pickiest eater of them all) called them "Amazing, juicy, sweet, HEAVENLY." Now, if that's not enough to get you to try them, I don't know what is. lol
Okay, so I still haven't started my 30 day raw challenge yet. I want to make sure my fridge is well stocked before I do so that I don't look in the fridge, find nothing to eat and heat up a Lean Pocket (or 4) to eat. (Not that I did that last night or anything...really...stop looking at me like that! (They were little Lean Pockets...I swear! I've never seen them so small!)
However, this morning I made sure to buy at least enough food to get me through one raw day. I just want to make sure I'm not starving by the end of the day. lol I bought a bunch of white peaches, white nectarines (yummy!), some avacados, tomatoes, sprouts and romaine hearts to wrap in nori for a yummy raw wrap and a weight watchers magazine got thrown in there for good measure because it seems lately that I just haven't had the time to read. :( I bought myself the new Dean Koontz book the other day as a reward for actually getting off of my duff and going to Weight Watchers and it's still sitting in it's bag. It used to be that I'd buy a book and I wouldn't go to sleep that night until it was done. Now I have to resort to fluff Weight Watchers magazines if I want to get any reading in. So sad. Maybe I should get off of the computer. lol
So, anyways...weigh in tomorrow. That's a really scary thought because I have been doing TERRIBLY this week. REALLY REALLY REALLY bad. We've gone out to restaurants, we've eaten fast food, I've had popsicles. I don't know what was up this week. I REALLY have to get rid of that, "Well, I can just be good the rest of the week," attitude that I've been sporting this past...well, 11 years.
So, yeah...here's to bigger (hmmmm...how about smaller?) and better things! Cheers!
So, Meg called me out on not blogging. I suppose she had a good idea why I may not be. lol Seriously. I'm terrible. I kept thinking, "Well, weigh in isn't until Saturday, so I can cheat today and just be good the rest of the week and be okay. Same the next day. Then the next day. Then...oh wait, weigh in is in TWO DAYS. I think I've gained weight this week! Ugh! So, I'm being good today...after the sushi, because...well, I just can't turn down sushi and it's not too bad for you, right? Forget the write rice and it's actually pretty good for you. lol
Still not raw, although I'm planning about 80% today. I was in the grocery store the other day looking at the teeny tiny section of organic produce and I could smell this AMAZING smell. I turned around to figure out what it was and it was most definitely the nectarines! I bought about 6 of them. Then went on a hunt for pluots. (Read back in my blog for my thoughts on those) I found them! When I got home, the nectarines were HEAVENLY!!! The pluots were a little overripe, I think. I remember thinking they weren't terribly juicy. They were crazy juicy this time though, which was unfortunate.
Then, this morning on my way to get some sushi from Vons, (they, oddly enough, have really good sushi) and again, THE SMELL. I turn around, once again, the nectarines were calling to my nose. lol I bought five of them. This time they were the white nectarines, which I prefer. I really need to get to Jimbos so I can buy organic nectarines. They had them at Vons, but they were more than twice the price as their non organic cousins. :( The nice thing about Jimbos is that you can get locally grown, organic produce, for a lot less than you can get the imported organic produce at the major shopping market. Shop locally, it's good for the farmer, it's good for the earth, it's just all around a better idea. :)
I also bought Hot Pockets and frozen burritos. Those aren't for me. lol
Hmmmm....three cheat days in a row, but who's counting? Oh wait...I am. My two older girls got their junior black belts yesterday. What did they want to do to celebrate? Why, go to an all you can eat place, of course. I tried to stay on track...lean meat, veggies, baked potato. What do you mean that bread pudding wasn't staying on track? Dang.
Then today...father's day. Made hubby breakfast in bed. I made one of his two favorite breakfasts...corn beef hash, eggs and rice. I had a nibble...and then a plate full. Lunch was pretty good. I had corn on the cob and some beef skewers. On plan! Yay! Dinner...ummm...we'll just say five or so points. lol
I got SO sick after eating last night. Not to be too horribly graphic, but I told hubby after dinner, "I probably just gained back that five pounds that I had lost. After feeling sick, I told him, "I think I just lost three of those five pounds." This morning, I lost the other two. I feel better now though, and I didn't gain any weight. lol That'll teach me to overdo it!
I seriously cannot wait for that freaking stimulus check to come in so I can head over to Jimbos (goodness, I love that store. If you're in the San Diego area, seriously...check it out!) and fill my home with organic goodness...and not just organic mac and cheese. lol I WILL go raw. It's just a matter of finances right now.
The family went swimming tonight. Drake (hubby) asked me when I was going to go swimming with them. I promised him after I lose 100 pounds, I will be in that pool. That seems so far away, but I really do want to go swimming with them. They have such a great time and I would love to join in on that fun. Right now I'm just too uncomfortable with my body to do so. I hate that my weight keeps me from doing fun things with my children.
I'm tired. I'm going to bed now. Tomorrow is a new day, right?
