Before After

You know what I like about dieting?

Yes, there's something I actually like about dieting.  Can you believe it? lol  The majority of my life is spent eating the same kinds of food.  If I know I'll like it, I'll buy it and I'll eat it.  I just feel like it's far too expensive (especially with six kids!) to venture out and buy things that I've never eaten before because if we don't like it, we're wasting money.  This holds especially true with fresh produce, which costs an arm and a leg (especially when you buy 90% organic, which I do.)  I always have to buy enough for 8 people because kids get upset when you buy something for yourself to eat, but didn't also buy them some...even if you know they won't like it.  So, I tend to stick with what I know will get eaten.

However, when I'm "dieting," I tend to go outside of the box.  Especially with trying to be 85% raw right now, my food is pretty limited...at least if I stick with the tried and true's.  There's only so many apples, oranges, white nectarines, spinach, kale, avocado and romaine lettuce you can eat. lol  So, I do weird things like buy rainbow chard...and like it!   Or, buy okra, having heard of it, but never actually seen it before.  (BTW, it's YUMMY!  I just slice it into little circles, put some Hawaiian salt (has to be the red kind...I don't like the white kind, but I think I'm going to buy the black kind, from the lava...how cool is that? lol) and eat it raw)  Today, I actually, literally SQUEALED when I saw that my supermarket had prickly pear.  That's the fruit from the catcus plant.  I have heard REALLY good things about this fruit, but have never seen it for sale anywhere.  I was actually tempted to buy a potted catcus just to get the fruit off of it, but thought better of it when I remembered that I have six kids who touch everything and the thought of pulling cactus needles out of them is not very appealing.

So, anyways, prickly pear is my new find.  I think I'm going to eat it tonight for dinnef.  I'll let you know what I think of it and if it convinces me that it's worth buying a cactus plant.

Oh, and Amber?  You live in Arizona where it's pretty much all desert, right? lol  Any cactus plants near you? lol
