Lost a few...
....no not pounds. Days of motivation! I really need to get my butt back into gear. I've gained back almost all of that that I had lost last week.
Going in today to talk to the doc about WLS and my options. If anyone has gone thru this and would like to share pros & cons or their recovery, etc. I'm open to hearing about it.

I have...
I had WLS back in 2001. I didn't have the cool laproscopic type though. They cut me groin to gullet, removed (not just stapled off) my stomach and left me with a pouch the size of your thumb. They also removed 2 feet of small intestine.
You will lose a lot of weight but usually, if you have a lot, you will only lose about 65% of what you need to lose from the surgery, the rest will come with hard work and training yourself to eat better. I never got the "eating better" part down. I managed to get down to 285 without doing anything, then down to 235 with diets (all from 422) but after my baby I ended up back at 260, so yes it's very easy to gain weight back.
My friend had surgery a year ago and instead of having gastric bypass like I did she opted for the lap band surgery. It's taken her a year to lose 75 pounds however the plusses are she has learned how to eat properly (you won't be as restricted as with GBS) and she doesn't have the massive amounts of skin I have hanging because she lost it slower.
Things I wish the docs had told me? That WLS does NOT retrain you on how to eat. You eat less because you can't physically get more in but the pouch does stretch and you will try to eat more. If you go to obesityhelp.com you will see that there are many people who have had surgery and gained the weight back. That's why I get so mad at people who have accused me of taking the "easy" way out for having surgery. There is nothing easy about it. At least now with the laproscopic surgery the recovery time is much shorter.
That being said the surgery is the best thing I've ever done. Just going from 422 to 350 made a huge impact on my life and my health. At 325 my sleep apnea stopped and by 280 I stopped the crazy snoring. If I had to do it over again I would in a heartbeat.
If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I have tons of information and can refer you to other people who have had surgery who could give you their insights to the whole process.
