Before After

Treat Yourself

Don't forget to relax sometimes.  My dog, Asa, does a very good job of that!  We have to learn to treat ourselves in other ways besides food.  I do think it is important that when we eat, it's food that is very satisfying.  Just because we need to watch portion size doesn't mean we need to give up taste.  My husband and I are going to visit his stepdad this weekend and I'll need to remain vigilant.  I know he will take us to a restaurant that has the greatest bread pudding and I'm having some!  However, after that, my plan is to be good.  I'll let you know how that works.

Exercising....

Thanks so much for the great encouragement!  I actually exercised for 30 minutes today which is huge for me!  I broke it up into two sessions and you know why I exercised?  Because you guys gave me a pep talk~I just love this website~Everyone working for the goal and encouraging each other!I am going to exercise at least five times a week now.  I will go to lunch with a friend of mine that I only see about every four months and we always half a catfish platter and a wonderful turtle cheesecake.  I'm just going to do celebrations and right after the celebration, I'll go back to eating well.  That way, I won't feel as deprived.  I've been focusing on what foods I can have instead of the ones I can't.  I love some of the McDonalds' salads, the fuze slenderize drinks, and whole grain bread with sandwiches.  I read a good article on oprah.com this afternoon.  It was about how we've forgotten how to figure out if we are full or not.  We've heard a lot of that before but I thought it had some really good points in it.  Keep up the good work and thanks again!

Back in Business!

Well, I am back in business!  I had a talk with myself and decided I had to get back on the program and start exercising again.  I'm starting out very basic like just fifteen minutes a day or I know I'll quit again.  I'm doing well on my eating.  Sometimes, I can really blow that too but my biggest battle is exercise.  I think I'll have to work up gradually.

Focus

My husband and I went on a four day vacation.  I did very well on my eating then but didn't exercise.  As soon as we returned, it was time for me to go to a conference and I did fine there for awhile.  Then, my girlfriends went for ice cream and I had some.  That started my downward trend and the next day at the conference, I had the fried catfish for lunch and more fried food for supper.  Today, we went out for my son's birthday and I had a great lunch at P.F. Chang's, chocolate that my son bought for my husband and me, and after the movie~ice cream!  I'm not too happy with myself now.  I need some focusing tips.  If you know how to stay focused on the goal during vacations and celebrations, please let me know.  I hope you all are doing a better job  than I am right now.  Well, I will try to do better next week.  I do know that if I ask the Lord every morning to help me with my goal, He will do that.  I just have to remember to ask!

Pralines and Cream

Ok, I don't do moderation.  I found these wonderful sugar free Baskin and Robbins pralines and cream hard candy.  They are wonderful.  However, yesterday I probably ate about 30 of them throughout the course of the day.  Now, I'm ill and I've gained a little over a pound.  So, it's time to regroup.  I start my walking program tomorrow with a friend of mine.  If you can handle moderation, get some of this candy.  It's a great substitute for sugar.  However, if you are like me and go to the extreme, stay away!

Yesterday and Today

This week has been very hectic and I'm worn out.  I haven't walked four times this week~just once.  However, I have done fine on my eating with the South Beach Diet.  I'm ready to get the cookbook because I'm getting tired of the same things.  I've been on it a week now and have lost 4 lbs. so I'm excited!  I know you lose weight quickest in the beginning and it will slow down a lot later and that's ok.  I just needed a jumpstart.  Yesterday was a hard day and after work, I wanted to drive straight to the Mexican restaurant for an enchilada and some chips and salsa.  However, I decided to go to another restaurant and skip that.  That was a big accomplishment.  We had lunch today at work and I only ate the meat.  It was beef which I shouldn't have done on South Beach but that's all their was.  Since next week won't be near as hectic, I am planning on walking more.  I'm glad tomorrow's Friday!

Baby Birds and Purses

Well, I cleaned out my purse which was my first goal for this summer.  That was a chore.  I walked with Fern tonight and I'm excited that I've lost some weight but I know it will be challenging to keep focused.  I'm doing the South Beach Diet and the first two weeks aren't easy but I feel pretty determined right now.  Who knows how I will feel tomorrow!  I have four baby birds in my hanging plant that I check on everyday.  They remind me that goals are good but we need to stop and smell the roses along the way!

Reality Check

I decided to start a blog because I thought it would be very motivating for getting healthy and losing weight.  I am 47 years old and my cholesterol has been up so it's time for a reality check.  This summer, I would like to lose 15 pounds and develop healthier lifestyle habits.  I would like to get rid of clutter in every area of my life including the weight, the garage, the office, and my purse!  My pattern is to do very well for a week or two and then go right back to eating too much chocolate and hanging out at  the Mexican restaurant.  I need some accountability so I break out of that pattern.  I started on the South Beach Diet yesterday and I will walk four days a week this summer.
