More on Me

Alrighty - back again, with a bit more time this morning. I must say, it was a lovely surprise to wake up this morning and have four messages waiting for me in my inbox. How nice is that? Thankyou, ladies.

As you might know, I'm Aly. I'm 22 years old, live in Australia and have been quite overweight for a long time. I'm pretty tall and solid in stature, so I convinced myself that my weight wasn't unhealthy for my size - until I realised that my Size 14 frame was now a Size 18 frame, and that I weighed close to 100kgs.

I am a primary school teacher, and I was being asked by the littlies at school when I was going to have my baby. That was a shock for me - those kids see my figure, and assume I'm pregnant! Isn't it scary how we can tell ourselves that everything is fine, until we get a scary wake up call? I can't believe I have been so big for so long, and that I was content with it.

I've done diets before, they haven't worked. Now, I'm not dieting persay. I'm just watching what goes into my mouth, and cutting out the crap. I officially started looking after myself in January, however had an overseas vacation for three weeks where it was hard to monitor my weight. In February, I suffered a three week long bout of glandular fever, meaning I have been very tired and unable to exercise well.

Feeling much better now, and in the mood to get fitter! I actually don't mind exercise. It's more a motivation thing.. I like to get routines started, and that's what I plan to do. I'm lucky to have a fantastic treadmill here at home, as well as a gym close by. I actually prefer the solitude of walking for 30 minutes here at home, instead of in front of a gym full of people. It's nice to have both options available, though.

My first mini goal is to hit 90kgs. I'm breaking it down, so I see success. I know I'm in for the long haul, this time. 90kgs and I'll treat myself to a (non food) reward. After that, who knows?

I'm a regular blogger at two websites outside of extrapounds. The first is a (somewhat) anonymous one, where I talk occasionally about my weight. The second is a random public blog, where I talk about anything and everything. Feel free to check those out.

I'm content to leave this blog as is, and hope to meet some support networks here that'll keep me going! Have a great day, everyone!

Kids

Nothing like a kid to ask uncensored questions.  You are on your way.  Good luck!

Seems

that you're well on your way to say goodbye to the 90kgs and keep going.  I was born in Australia but we have lived in Malta for the last 31 years. I was only 1 year old when my parents came back to live here.  However,I've been to Australia 11 years ago for 6 months. I was born in Melbourne but travelled all the east coast from Cairns downto Tasmania.  I love Sydney. I could just stay in the Darling Harbour for hours just sitting there admiring the beauty.  I was also a primary school teacher like you but now am working in computers.  And I'm also quite tall. So we have quite a bit in common.

Kids are the best for brutal honesty. They say it as it is without sugaring it and as you said, that's what's needed. Otherwise you would have continued falling. Keep going and keep blogging - I'll try and check out the two other two sites you mentioned.

Your On Your Way

Sounds like you are going into lossing your weight with the perfect attuide. I know from teaching kindergarden that those lovely little minds just ask anything and everything even if its not. That's the great thing about them.

I have a friend that lives in Australia. In Melbourne... she used to live in Sydney but moved back to Melbourne. Anyways, I wish you the best on your journey. You have awesome, kind, caring people here that will give you loads of support. I have found this site so helpful and really feel that I have made a ton of new friends.

Wishing you the best of luck!!!!

Welcome to EP

Welcome to ExtraPounds, if you're really serious about losing weight, this is a great place to be. The tools at your disposal are great, but what really makes this are the people. If you need support, you've got a community literally at your fingertips!

Best wishes on your journey!

I am a teacher too!

I had some kindergartners ask when I was having my baby, too. But then again - There have been about 7 teachers at my school who have had babies this year so I'll just assume they got me confused. :-/
